Chapter 936 - 935: You’re Super Brave!

  • Next Chapter

Medical Center. Observation Operating Room.

It was just a hernia repair surgery, and Christina handled it like a pro—no hiccups whatsoever.

"Yes!"

As it wrapped up, Adam let out a surprised cheer.

When he noticed the eyes turning his way, he quickly shifted his focus from his inner thoughts to the outside world, clapping naturally.

"Dr. Yang, nicely done!"

Clap, clap, clap!

Following Adam's words, everyone else joined in.

The surgical nurses felt it the most. Back in the day, they could brush Christina off or snap at her whenever they felt like it. But now? She was a legit surgeon who could lead a surgery and run an OR. They had to show her respect. Even if she was rude, they'd mostly have to suck it up. Unless it got unbearable, flipping out at a superior wasn't an option—not even the nurses' union could save their cushy jobs if they did.

Once everyone's attention shifted back to Christina—who was nodding with a tight-lipped smile, pride practically radiating off her—Adam let his focus drift back to the starry expanse in his mind.

There, countless mathematical lights linked together, glowing brightly. Amid the glow, a giant, goddess-like Peggy stood tall, her intricate armor gleaming. As Adam solved the fifth problem, the fifth Monica checkpoint on her armor exploded with a bang.

Fragments of armor scattered everywhere. One piece, shaped like a dart, shot toward Adam. He caught it effortlessly between his right index and middle fingers. Etched on it was a number—the answer to the fifth checkpoint.

The sixth Monica checkpoint on Peggy's armor lit up, and a new math problem materialized out of thin air.

Adam held the dart with the fifth answer, eyeing it left and right, calculating the angle and arc he'd need to hurl it and crack the next checkpoint…

"You're super brave~"

The giant Peggy spoke, her voice a mix of charm and teasing, echoing through the starry void.

Emmm.

Okay, fine.

After solving the fifth math problem, Adam's super brain took a breather. He'd thrown in some special effects and a little virtual reward for himself.

With Christina's first surgery a success, Meredith and the other residents from her cohort started leading their own surgeries one by one. Adam supervised them all.

Time flew by, and soon it was Christina's wedding day.

Everyone close to her showed up. Most came for Dr. Burke's sake, though a rare few were there for Christina.

A wedding between two surgeons—two surgeons downright devoted to their craft—wasn't leaving the hospital until the last possible second. It took the chief of surgery stepping in to shoo them out.

Ever since Adam came around, no surgery was "only so-and-so can do it" anymore. Dr. Burke might be a top-tier cardiothoracic surgeon, but anything he could handle, Adam could too. So Burke headed to the wedding venue early.

"Adam?"

Meredith tracked him down. "Can you set Christina up to cut? She's dying to get in there right now."

"Are you kidding me?"

Adam groaned. "Her wedding's about to start, and you're saying she wants to operate? What's she trying to pull?"

"See for yourself."

Christina's voice came from behind.

"Pfft!"

Adam turned around and burst out laughing. "What's with that look? Where'd your eyebrows go?"

"My mother-in-law shaved them off!"

Christina, browless and wearing a neck chain, was barely holding back her anger and frustration.

"She forced you?"

Adam raised an eyebrow.

"…No."

Her brewing outburst stalled.

"So you thought it looked good?"

Adam grinned.

"No!"

Christina snapped. "She said I wasn't as selfish as she'd imagined, and this neck chain's been worn by five generations of Burke brides. No eyebrows are part of their wedding tradition too! I got roped into it before I knew what was happening! I'm a surgeon—a great surgeon! And now I'm standing here with no dignity! So please, let me cut something!"

"You're the one who tossed your dignity aside… Fine, come with me."

Adam rolled his eyes at Christina's moment of weakness, but she'd boosted his wisdom and strength as a friend before, so he'd back her up.

"We've gotta hurry. The wedding's in a few hours, and Christina still needs makeup and her dress," Meredith warned.

"Relax, I'm just letting her make one cut," Adam said with a laugh.

In the Operating Room

"Alright, we're done here."

Adam took the bloody scalpel from Christina, who'd made her cut and was now staring blankly at the patient, and handed it back to the lead surgeon.

"Dr. Kenley, thanks for that."

"No problem," Dr. Kenley said with a smile. "Happy wedding, Dr. Yang. Congrats to Dr. Burke for me."

"Let's go."

Meredith came over and dragged her bestie out.

Outside the OR

"You sure you want to get married?" Adam asked, glancing at Christina, who was still zoned out.

"I don't know…" Christina said, pained. "Burke wants it… I'm okay with it, but I just wanted something small, a few people. Now his mom and my mom turned it into this huge thing, and I have to show up looking like this with no dignity. I don't know…"

"What's going on?"

Just then, the groom, Dr. Burke, and his best man, Dr. Shepherd, rushed over.

"Adam, you deal with them."

Meredith yanked Christina away. "Bride and groom can't see each other before the wedding."

"Here's the deal…"

Adam stepped up and explained the eyebrow situation to Burke. "Dr. Burke, is this really a tradition in your family weddings?"

"Ugh."

Burke gave a bitter smile. "Maybe I messed up. I shouldn't have dragged Christina into all this…"

"Preston!"

Shepherd, ever the dutiful best man, jumped in. "Don't overthink it. It's not as bad as you're making it out to be. Don't do anything rash…"

"Yeah," Adam added, catching the hint of Burke giving up. He instinctively pulled out the classic Lu Xiaobu-Zeng Xiaoxian line from questioning Zhang Dapao: "Do you love her?"

"Of course."

Burke glanced at Adam and nodded firmly.

"Does she love you?"

Adam pressed.

"…Yes!"

Burke paused, then nodded again, certain.

"Then what's the problem?"

Adam clapped his hands. "You know, there are people out there who'd go to a wedding even if the bride didn't love them—facing down a gun, breaking every bone falling off a building, or even getting so brain-damaged they'd hallucinate time travel just to be there. All because they love her. You two are head over heels for each other—what's there to overthink? Worried about the mother-in-law drama? You're both surgeons! If you married someone in a different field, you'd barely see each other, let alone each other's parents. How many times would you even meet in a year? For your love, just grit your teeth and get through it. What's the big deal? And if you really love each other and have each other's backs, stand tall together. Keep the family vibe solid, and there won't be any issues. It's all up to you two."
