Life Through the American TV Show World
Chapter 925 - 924: Shocking the World—Satan Walks Among Us
Medical Center.
"What?"
Adam's jaw dropped at the news. "532 of him?"
"That's what he said," Dr. Shepherd replied, his scalp tingling and his face pale as he tracked Adam down. "I can't tell if he's lying or not. If it's fake, why would he throw out a specific number like 532?"
"It's probably not just some random figure," Adam said, his expression turning serious. "There might be a massive secret behind this. I'll get someone to look into it."
With that, he dialed Agent Jessie Paige.
"I'm busy lately—no time!" Jessie's voice snapped through the phone the second she picked up. "Don't bother me!"
"I've got real business, I swear," Adam said, covering the receiver slightly and flashing a quick smile at Dr. Shepherd before continuing. "I need you to dig up some info for me…"
After a brief exchange, he hung up.
"Who's she?" Dr. Shepherd asked, his nerves settling a bit now that Adam was stepping in.
"FBI agent," Adam said with a grin. "Dr. Shepherd, don't worry about this anymore. Just keep an eye on Meredith—make sure she stays away from that guy and you don't engage with him either. Leave the pros to handle the pro stuff."
"Got it," Dr. Shepherd said, exhaling in relief. "Thanks, Adam."
"No problem," Adam replied with a smile.
After seeing Dr. Shepherd off, his brow furrowed. If 532 was real, this was about to spiral into something colossal. If he'd stumbled into this head-on, he'd already be on the phone with Juno, brainstorming a plan. But since it was more of a side issue, he figured he'd test out another side of Agent Jessie Paige.
Late Night.
"Come to my place," Jessie's voice crackled over the phone.
Adam, the speed demon, was there in no time.
"Bad news?" he asked, cutting straight to it.
This was his first time at Jessie's apartment—usually, they met at his.
"Bad? It's downright earth-shattering!" Jessie took a deep breath and tossed a thick stack of files at him. "532 isn't some made-up number. With this death row guy, it's 533 total. Their mothers all bought 'gold' from the same private clinic to conceive them. And their father? A guy going by the alias 'Hamburger.'"
"533 kids, all from one dad?" Adam sucked in a sharp breath.
"Yeah!" Jessie said, still reeling even after processing it for a while. "If we've got this right, 533 people—all from this Hamburger guy's 'gold.' They're all his kids."
"Shit!" Adam cursed, his face hardening. "Have you figured out who this Hamburger is? Was it him, or the clinic?"
"Not clear yet," Jessie said, shaking her head. "I know what you're capable of—I need you to go through these files and catch anything I might've missed. I'm submitting this case officially tomorrow. After that, it's going to blow wide open!"
"Alright!" Adam didn't hesitate. He grabbed the files and, using his photographic memory, flipped through page after page at lightning speed, projecting them into the starry expanse of his mind. Then, with his supercharged brain, he cross-checked and analyzed, sifting out the key details.
"Holy shit!" he blurted out after finishing.
"What'd you find?" Jessie asked urgently.
"The death row guy wasn't lying," Adam said, stunned. "Satan's real—and this time, he's calling himself Hamburger!"
"He did this on purpose?" Jessie inhaled sharply.
"That's not all," Adam said, handing her a document. "Over 32 years, he donated 6,960 times. First 15 years, almost daily. Last 17, about once a week. 533 successes."
"The clinic's in on it too," Jessie said, scanning the file as she pieced it together.
Without their cooperation, something this outrageous couldn't have happened—especially over 32 years.
"Yes and no," Adam said with a sigh. "The clinic's original owner didn't want this."
"He was forced?" Jessie asked, skeptical. "For 32 years?"
"No," Adam said, his voice heavy. "The grass on his grave's been growing for 32 years."
"What?!" Jessie's eyes widened in shock.
"The real clinic owner probably died 32 years ago," Adam explained. "The current one's a fake. Guess who?"
"Hamburger?" Jessie guessed after a split-second's thought.
"Bingo!" Adam confirmed. "533 kids, ranging from 32 years old to 3—all his. Look at the photos. This Hamburger guy looks a bit like the original owner, but they're definitely not the same person.
Chances are, this psycho found out about assisted reproduction, tracked down this clinic using the tech, killed the owner, took his place, and used the identity—plus confidentiality agreements—to pull off this twisted scheme."
"But why?" Jessie asked, incredulous.
"He's a freak!" Adam spat. "Maybe he couldn't find anyone like him, so he decided to breed his own kind? There's nothing a psycho won't do that we can't imagine!"
"What do we do now?" Jessie muttered.
"I'd say monitor this Hamburger guy," Adam suggested. "Track who he's been in contact with among those kids, then round up the ones who've turned criminal. Oh, and keep my name out of it. God knows how many of those 533 he's secretly groomed.
Once the media storm hits, push for a full audit of every clinic and hospital's fertility programs. Check for anything similar. I'd bet my life this isn't the only case."
Not every "gold" sample pairs successfully with an egg. Clinics chasing profits would push the ones with high success rates—or slap the names of genius scientists or big shots on them while secretly using donors with top-notch stats who nail it every time.
"Damn it," Adam cursed. "Who knows how many couples are caught up in this…"
"The city hall registry has access to that data too," Jessie pointed out.
"So?" Adam shot her a look. "If they don't marry, it's fine? And the ones who make it to city hall for a license? They're either head-over-heels or true love.
Finding out something like this would be a bolt from the blue! This is just too freaking messed up!"
"God help us," Jessie said, realizing the global firestorm this would ignite.
"Once this breaks, it's definitely getting turned into a movie," Adam said, veering off-topic. "Might even end up a comedy—after all, the heart of every comedy is tragedy, right?"
This is a TV drama world, not some Demi-Gods and Eightfold Path knockoff.
"This damn oversight!" Jessie fumed. "How does something like this even happen? Are the regulators blind?!"
