Chapter 106 - Being From Another World
Tap Tap Tap Tap
Kairen tapped on the keyboard, typing on the computer and searching for anything related to the thieves. A few pages were opened after he did so. Kairen looked at the pages on the screen and the papers on the table and sighed.
He was asked to help Glenn and look for information regarding the thieves again the first thing in the morning. He thought that people would forget about all that information that he had found yesterday, but that didn't happen in the end.
It had been a whole day but there was no news about Alan and team leader Dains's meeting yet. Team leader Dains only ordered them to return the man to his cell after the meeting and didn't say anything else. He didn't even say whether the information was useful or not. Team leader Dains returned to his office with a serious face after the meeting.
Kairen shook off his thought and looked at the pages that he had opened on the computer. He took a deep breath and started to read them, or at least he tried to.
'Nah, I can't concentrate.'
Kairen took his eyes off of the screen and leaned back. He stretched his sore arms and yawned. He couldn't sleep much the night before. There was something that kept bothering him.
'Appearing out of nowhere...'
He kept thinking about Alan Gill's case. He had worked on that yesterday.
It seemed that the man had popped up out of nowhere at first because there was nothing about him. They had now found other strange stuff that might be related to him. Still, the man named Alan Gill had no known past.
No known past.
Just like Kairen.
The previous Kairen.
That's what made Kaire think that he might find something about Kairen's past if he used the same method used in finding some stuff about Alan Gill.
Kairen accepted Glenn's request as soon as he asked him to help him out only to be able to use the computer and data again. He had been searching about Kairen since then. Of course, after finishing what Glenn asked him to do.
'Kairon, Kieran, Kiaren, Karen... Ah, what the hell am I doing?!'
Kairen tried hard, however, he found nothing.
He even directly tried to dig up Kairen's past using all the data on that computer, but there was nothing.
Kairen wasn't an expert in this kind of stuff. It was actually only his third time digging information and doing this stuff, but the job itself wasn't hard. He was sure it wouldn't be that difficult to find all the information about a certain person's past here. After all, this place was SMF. One could find almost everything here without having to go through a lot of hard processes like those shown in spy movies or such.
Kairen too could find anything he needed to find about the previous Kairen. Anything that there was, actually. The first thing about him in all the data was a report. A report that a 12 or 13-year-old kid was found in a dark alley at night around 10 years ago. The kid was unable to speak and didn't seem to have any understanding of his surrounding. After being examined, they had found traces of mana in his soul, thus he was sent to the orphanage specialized to raise and train orphan kids with special powers.
'Doesn't that make him just like me?'
Kairen also didn't know where he was and had no understanding of his surroundings when he first came here. He was able to speak to the people here, but it wasn't a language that he had seen or learned before. And then he was sent to the academy to continue studying magic.
'It is understandable that I would be clueless and act like an idiot, but what about him? I was the one who was thrown here from another world not him...'
"...."
Kairen blinked his eyes.
'Another world...'
He blinked again.
'Another world...'
"...."
A thought crossed his mind.
'What if he too was from another world?...'
Kairen blinked again and silently stared at the ceiling.
Now that he thought about it, Kairen 1 coming from another world sounded more logical than him coming from another world.
Kairen here had a few friends, had a job, had been studying in an academy for years, and even had a family.
Kairen 1 on the other hand had an unknown past, didn't have a family, didn't know the language, and didn't understand his surroundings. He was found in an alley with nothing known about his origin.
Kairen looked at the lamp hanging from the ceiling.
'Why didn't I think about this before?'
Whenever Kairen wanted to search about the previous Kairen, everyone just told him 'Yeah, Kairen had some memory problems.'. Kairen had accepted to be the truth, that the unknown past was because the kid had lost his memories and knew nothing. But now that he had searched it himself, it wasn't that the kid knew nothing. There really was nothing. Now he thought that the memory loss thing might not be true.
'He could still write in my mother tongue but couldn't speak to the people here? Is that really how people lose memories?'
"...."
Kairen stared at the cieling.
He looked at all of the corners of the white ceiling. Kairen examined the ceiling carefully with a smile on his lips.
'MAN I'M REALLY STUPID!'
And screamed in his mind.
Kairen 1 being from another world was the most logical thing that he could ever think of.
'He could write in that language, that meant he was from my hometown? Or maybe something near that place?'
That language must be that Kairen's mother tongue as well for him to use it in a situation like that.
Kairen remembered that there were some sentences about not being able to remember in that old notebook written by that Kairen.
'Maybe, the boy had really lost some parts of his memory?'
Thinking that way, he could finally find answers to some of his questions.
Yeah, only a few of them.
'Then again, where did that dude go after I came here?'
Did he just disappear? Was this body Kairen 1's body or Kairen 2's? If the body was still here so did his soul just vanish?
'Did he go back to his own world and I came here to replace him?'
Kairen remembered Reyan saying that there was nothing unusual after the previous Kairen passed out. There was no way Reyan wouldn't notice it if suddenly his friend was replaced by another Kairen...
'What if we switched souls? Like that one web novel... the two switched bodies and then lived happily in their new worlds...'
Kairen looked at the right edge of the ceiling.
'Live happily in another world...
"...."
He started to sweat.
'Switch places and live as the other one...
"...."
Kairen smiled.
He looked at the other edge of the room with that smile.
'NO! DEFINITELY NO! WHAT THE HECK? LIVE AS SOMEONE ELSE IN SOMEONE ELSE'S LIFE? WHAT WOULD HE DO WITH MY LIFE? THAT CRAZY MAN CAN'T LIVE AS IF HE IS ME! HE WOULD RUIN MY LIFE JUST AS I AM RUINING HIS!'
Kairen covered his face with his palms.
'HE BETTER NOT DO ANYTHING TO BROTHER IF HE IS IN MY BODY! OY! BASTARD! DON'T EVEN THINK OF DECEIVING HIM BY PRETENDING TO BE ME!'
Kairen took a deep breath.
'Nah! There is no way! Even if he went to my body, he is probably dead. That crazy thing happened just before I came here. I nearly died. He won't be fine if he is in my body. Yeah, just die if you are in my body!'
Kairen uncovered his face and looked at the ceiling again. He was suddenly reminded of something else.
'If Kairen is from another world, then is it possible that Alan Gill is also from another world?'
Kairen thought about that man's past. There was nothing about him. Just like Kairen, they both had unknown pasts.
If so, is it possible?
Kairen remembered that the man had been observing him on the day that he went to kill a monster in Mount Fiera as a cadet. He remembered the kind of feeling he got back then.
'If Kairen 1 and I are both from Earth, does that mean Alan Gill might be from there as well?'
Kairen looked back at the computer's screen again.
'Maybe... I can finally find something if I talk to him somehow?'
The man was still being held in SMF's prison and with the evidence that Kairen had found, he would probably be held there until everything was cleared.
'Maybe I should visit him?'
Was it possible to visit him? Would they let him talk to him?
Kairen wasn't even an official member yet, so he wasn't sure that he would be able to see and talk to that man.
'But let's give it a shot!'
He decided to at least try his luck.
