Chapter 323: Chapter 300: Join Our [Twist] School

After hearing Professor Hazled’s words, Lloyd’s mind couldn’t help but race with a series of wild thoughts.

’Hildina... is that the Veto Saint’s name?’

’It’s a beautiful name. It sounds so gentle, like a childhood sweetheart, the girl next door...’

’Ugh... No, no, why am I even thinking about that right now?’

’The more important question is, my Hildina actually knows I’ve dabbled in the [Twist]? Does she know I’m a mole who has infiltrated her Sect?’

’It’s a little surprising, but I guess it makes sense, doesn’t it? After all, our relationship has reached that point... we’ve been intimate. It would be stranger if she *hadn’t* noticed anything...’

’But why hasn’t she sent anyone to arrest me? Why hasn’t she dealt with me herself? She’s even helped me on several occasions.’

’Is it just because I’m handsome? Or because she’s just that gentle?’

’That can’t be it, right?’

As his mind raced with these thoughts, he heard Professor Hazled’s voice add from the air:

"So-called ’legality’ and ’taboos’ are merely external value standards. A Saint doesn’t necessarily subscribe to such mortal concepts. Besides, she has always been an independent and opinionated ’star student,’ so to speak. She won’t be swayed by her followers."

Lloyd had suspected as much. A Saint was far above the rest, her status transcendent. It was impossible for those beneath her to fathom her thoughts, let alone hold her to mortal standards of ’public order and decency.’

Besides, he remembered his butler mentioning that before his Hildina became a Saint, [Veto] had also been a Taboo System.

Professor Hazled continued.

"So, you can relax now, can’t you? Your [Twist] isn’t as ’taboo’ as you imagine. At least, in my eyes, and in Hildina’s, it’s just a unique Extraordinary System. A very dangerous one, yes, but also very powerful and miraculous..."

"However... considering how mortals in this world might react, you should still avoid openly advertising it. Wait until you ascend to become a Saint yourself. Then, everything will fall into place naturally."

As he spoke, Lloyd felt a power surge through the air, coalescing before him into a tea table and a chair. A tea set and refreshments appeared on the table as the mysterious professor’s voice continued.

"Alright, now you can tell me how you recovered the *Book of Truth* from that damn traitor, can’t you?"

Lloyd sat down in the chair but didn’t dare touch the refreshments. He then recounted, just as it had happened, the process of acquiring the *Book of Truth*.

He started from the beginning: seeing the book in a criminal’s Memory Fragment, the strange, inexplicable craving that followed, using Divination to find the Underground City, his experiences there, and finally, the operation to take down the Advisor.

He was very thorough, filling in many details. It was probably due to the sense of familiarity he felt, and combined with the professor’s relationship with his Hildina, it made him feel that Professor Hazled was someone he could trust.

But he chose to conceal everything related to his ’panel,’ saying nothing about it.

The professor on the other side listened patiently. He seemed to believe Lloyd’s account, as he didn’t press him on the few logical gaps created by the omission of the panel’s abilities—such as how Lloyd was able to withstand such intense Spiritual Contamination.

He even seemed to have devised an excuse and explanation for Lloyd himself:

"Just as I predicted. It wasn’t that you obtained the *Book of Truth*, but that the *Book of Truth* obtained you. That despicable, shameless Eske Mir clearly never expected the *Book of Truth* to betray him, did he?"

The words sounded strange, making Lloyd’s scalp tingle...

’Is the *Book of Truth* alive or something?’

He wanted to ask, but didn’t quite dare to...

He could only listen as the professor continued:

"In any case, the traitor has been punished, and the *Book of Truth* has returned to Mizkatoke. This is truly a gratifying turn of events... Now then, you look like you’re bursting with questions. Whatever you want to know, just ask."

Since the professor had given him an opening, Lloyd didn’t hold back. He quickly asked:

"Does the *Book of Truth* possess its own thoughts and will?"

"Hm? How could it? Have you spoken with it?"

"Ah? But you just mentioned it ’chose’ me, and ’betrayal’..."

"That’s just a figure of speech. Don’t read too much into it. It’s simply that the book is very unique. While it lacks Rationality and the ability to think, it does possess its own ’Destiny,’ much like a human..."

"Hmm... It’s a very complex concept. With your current level of knowledge, you would probably have a hard time understanding it. It’s best if you just read it more on your own and come to grasp its mysteries."

Professor Hazled explained.

Lloyd only half-understood. He could only shake his head and try another angle:

"Then what is the book’s specific function?"

"Hm? I’m surprised you’re a bit slow on the uptake here. Haven’t you noticed its function of ’recording and presenting truth’?"

"Well... I’ve had a sense of that, it’s just..."

"That is an incredibly important and powerful function, one that could influence the very Destiny of human civilization. So, whenever you have free time, you must be sure to read it."

Professor Hazled gave the same kind of answer as before, essentially just advising Lloyd to read it for himself.
