Chapter 316 - 296: The Changed Novice Handbook
Chapter 316: Chapter 296: The Changed Novice Handbook
The freshman handbook offered a detailed introduction to the many academic departments at Mizkatoke, and there were far more of them than Lloyd had expected.
The university had numerous departments, each divided into many courses, and every course had its own enrollment requirements—
For example, the Space System Lloyd was currently in was divided into several courses, such as "Space Coordinate Calculation," "Spatial Ability Development," "Space Equipment Research," and "Space Foundation Theory."
To enroll in any of these courses, a student had to be a "third-year"—that is, someone who had already completed three other courses.
Furthermore, for the "Space Coordinate Calculation" course, it was strongly recommended that students first complete "Space Foundation Theory" to increase their chances of passing and avoid a poor performance that could lower their rating.
But a recommendation was just a recommendation. Lloyd remembered seeing two researchers in the lab earlier with only three etchings on their Arm Badges. This meant there were geniuses who could ignore such advice and just brute-force their way through.
’Incredible. Mizkatoke has no room for mediocrity, and the Space System is full of hidden talents!’
Lloyd sighed to himself. He couldn’t help but recall the image of himself leaning against the crystal pillar. ’If I can get along with my classmates, maybe that scene could actually become a reality?’
He read on.
The Space System’s third-year requirement was in the highest tier among all departments. The only one on par with it was the Advanced Mysticism System, which also required students to complete three other courses before they could enroll.
This Advanced Mysticism System was also divided into numerous courses—even more than the Space System—such as "Safe Divination," "Advanced Orbital Mechanics," "Ancient Mysticism," and so on.
And regardless of which course a student wanted to take, they had to complete "Basic Mysticism" first.
’It all seems quite extensive, with very high requirements. Is it even more prestigious than the Space System?’
But Lloyd hadn’t had any exposure to the Advanced Mysticism System yet. Neither Dandy nor Skeleton Zaza had mentioned it, and it wasn’t specially noted in the Survival Tips he’d read earlier. ’Does it just not have a strong presence?’
’I don’t know. I’ll worry about it later...’
Below the Space System and the Advanced Mysticism System, there were no other departments with such strict requirements. Many courses were open to freshmen or first-years. After searching for a while, Lloyd found only one course that required students to be second-years.
Not only did it require a student to be a second-year, but it also recommended that they first graduate from several courses in the Medical System, such as those related to first aid and mental health, before attempting to enroll.
If one actually followed all these recommendations, the prerequisites for this course were even higher than those for the Space System and the Advanced Mysticism System...
However, it was a course Lloyd knew all too well—
"Twisted System Basic Research," a course under the Extraordinary System.
’Mizkatoke is truly on another level. They’re even researching the Twisted System?’
’But what’s the deal with the remarks and special warning that follow?’
Lloyd saw that after the course description, a warning was written in eye-catching red letters:
"This course is exceptionally dangerous. Human students are advised not to enroll! Human students are advised not to enroll! Human students are advised not to enroll!"
It was repeated three times. They clearly *really* didn’t recommend it.
And compared to the other courses in the Extraordinary System, the one on the Twisted System was also very unique—
The Extraordinary System covered basically all the common systems out there—not just the six Legal Systems, but even the Taboo Systems, and also the Ancient Magic system, which was unheard of in the outside world.
But the courses for these systems weren’t just about so-called "basic research." They also involved "practical application," "advancement to a High Position," "advanced techniques," and more. In short, they seemed very comprehensive and substantial.
It looked like you could learn just as much here as you would by going to the cities corresponding to each system.
Additionally, aside from the courses related to the Twisted System, other courses, such as those for the six major systems, were open to freshmen. The Taboo Systems and Ancient Magic, however, required students to be first-years.
All in all, the requirements weren’t that high by comparison.
In contrast, the Twisted System had only a single, lonely "basic research" course, and its enrollment requirements were so steep...
Lloyd couldn’t help but wonder if Mizkatoke was discriminating against his Twisted System.
But then he carefully scanned the other disciplines under the Extraordinary System and, sure enough, found no mention of the Forgetfulness System. He immediately felt better about his situation.
’Maybe it’s because it was completely Forgotten?’
’Looks like our Twisted System isn’t the most miserable one after all!’
Putting aside the two most miserable systems, Lloyd looked at the other courses. He felt quite drawn to "Manifestation." ’If I hadn’t been forcibly dragged into the Space System, I might have chosen that course, right?’
’Ancient Magic would be good too. I’ve always been interested in the Qi Transformation Horse.’
But as he continued flipping through the handbook, he discovered many more courses that piqued his interest...
’The Biology System? Ooh, this is good, this is good. Especially the courses focusing on Demons. Those are really tempting...’
’The Chemistry System? This looks interesting too. Especially the "Ancient Chemistry" course. That seems pretty incredible, doesn’t it?’
