Leveling Up by Executing Monsters
Chapter 303 - 289: I Really Am Human
Chapter 303: Chapter 289: I Really Am Human
Lloyd followed the elderly Professor Lawrence into the Space Teleportation Gate.
Outside, the bald brothers waited until the Teleportation Gate had completely vanished before looking at each other. The younger brother, Jedon, was the first to speak.
"So... is there any point in continuing our duel?"
The older brother, Jeddo, shook his head and said,
"Let’s do it another day. I’m not in the mood anymore."
As he spoke, he glanced back in the direction where Lloyd had suddenly appeared and asked,
"A moment ago, were you the one who controlled the magic and deflected it?"
"No. If I had that kind of control, I would have proven I was better than you long ago."
"I didn’t either..."
"Huh?"
"Then why did our magic fly toward that student on the side? Do you have any clue?"
"It must have been the Holy Artifacts on that new student, right? I sensed the Spiritual Energy of at least three Holy Artifacts on him."
"To be able to counter our magic by twisting it like that, it must be an incredibly powerful Holy Artifact. Looks like we’ve got another rich young master on our hands..."
"Then why did he suddenly appear on the dueling grounds? And at a time that isn’t even for new student enrollment?"
"I don’t know. Maybe he’s one of those legendary recommended students? A world apart from us common folk... But compared to that, I’m more curious about something else—"
"This dueling ground is supposed to be surrounded by a Protective Barrier set up by a Mentor from the Space System. It’s meant to ensure that attacks on the field don’t affect the surroundings. Why did it fail just now?"
"Maybe that’s why Professor Lawrence suddenly showed up? He’s the most mysterious professor in our academy. For him to appear in person, something unusual must have happened."
"It seems this new student is quite the character. Definitely out of the ordinary. Being taken away by Professor Lawrence... that’s big enough news for the school paper."
"Heh, whatever. At Mizkakotok University, there are no mediocrities."
......
Lloyd had no idea that two bald guys were discussing him behind his back. After following the old professor through the Teleportation Gate, he found himself in what looked like a sci-fi laboratory.
The overall aesthetic was a silvery, futuristic sci-fi style. All sorts of unidentifiable automated devices floated in mid-air, independently calculating massive amounts of data. Floating light screens were visible everywhere, with streams of information scrolling across them.
The walls were lined with similar light screens displaying various data and icons, along with some strange 3D models that rotated continuously.
All in all, it looked just like a high-tech, cutting-edge laboratory from a sci-fi movie back on Earth—the kind that could incubate some world-ending virus or build a giant robot.
However, the dozen or so people here, including the old professor, were all dressed in stereotypical Mage’s Robes. The others weren’t wearing such flamboyant, oversized hats, but the contrast between their character designs and the background was still incredibly jarring.
Lloyd took a closer look at the researchers, who all looked like classical mages. He noticed they were all very young; their combined ages probably didn’t even match the old professor’s.
’Does the old professor bring strangers in here often?’ None of them reacted to his sudden appearance. They remained busy with their research, not even sparing him a glance.
Lloyd then noticed that they were all wearing the Arm Badge the bald guy had mentioned on their shoulders. Each badge had at least three engraved marks on it.
’Does this mean they’re all third-year students?’
’Speaking of which, what are the standards for year levels here? And how are the disciplines like the Medical System and Engineering System divided?’
’And my method of enrollment... was there something wrong with it?’
Lloyd’s head was swimming in a fog of confusion. He desperately needed someone to talk to and couldn’t help but scream internally:
’Can someone please explain the specific settings to me?!’
Just then, he heard the old professor speak.
"A couple of you, come give this boy a psychological evaluation."
Immediately, two more mage-like researchers approached. They were not very friendly; the moment they got close, one of them pulled out a flashlight and shone it in Lloyd’s eyes.
"Ow, ow, ow..."
Since he was on someone else’s turf, Lloyd didn’t dare act up. He could only endure being dazed and dizzy from the light.
The other researcher asked him some basic, common-sense questions, like "Where do you live?", "Do you have a girlfriend?", and "What’s your name, height, and education level?". Then, he even took out some color blindness test plates for Lloyd to identify.
The process was similar to the one he’d gone through with those two scammers yesterday, just much more simplified.
But the final conclusion was even stranger:
"Professor, he possesses normal human-level consciousness and the appearance, limbs, and internal organs of a humanoid creature."
What was even stranger, however, was that the old professor actually seemed surprised by this result.
"Hm? How is that possible?"
As he spoke, he shot out a hand as thin as a dried twig and grasped Lloyd’s wrist. A bit of his inspiration seeped out, aggressively scanning Lloyd’s entire body.
He wasn’t ’burned’ by Lloyd’s inspiration, nor was he surprised by the Spiritual Power inside Lloyd’s body. He just tilted his head slightly, twirled his snowy-white beard, and said with a look of utter confusion,
"How can he be completely identical to a human? How was this level of realism achieved? Has the outside world’s science and technology made some sort of sudden leap forward?"
’Um... is it possible that I *am* human?’
Lloyd couldn’t help but think to himself.
