Chapter 240: Chapter 239: Isn’t This Twist a Bit Too Abrupt?

Lloyd watched as his "sister," Evelor, bustled around the kitchen. She put breakfast on the table, straightened her clothes, said she was heading out to work, and then rushed out the door.

He couldn’t help but go on a frantic rant in his mind:

’Fake~ So fake!’

’My sister hasn’t combed her own hair in ages. I’m always the one who does it for her...’

’My sister always wears a dress and white stockings when she goes out. How could she possibly be wearing pants?’

’My sister would definitely finish breakfast with me, give me a hug, and then leave. Why would she leave me behind and head out on her own?’

’And her cooking... It’s almost on par with mine. That’s absolutely impossible. My cooking skills surpassed my real sister’s long ago...’

’Fake~ So fake...’

’It seems even a big shot like the Butler can’t write a completely flawless ’story,’ huh?’

Having actually experienced the beginning of this part of the story, the lucid Lloyd could naturally spot a ton of flaws. If he wanted to break out of it, he could start right now.

But since this was the Butler’s story, he decided to take it nice and slow.

He pulled over a chair and sat down, then allocated the 10 unspent Attribute points into [Rationality] and [Spiritual Power], pushing both attributes past 180 points.

This was from the Madness Value he had accumulated by touching the giant flower bud, the ’Night Raid’ on Elolo, and the ’Three-Day Check-in.’ He just hadn’t been in a hurry to spend them, wanting to see if he could still allocate points normally while inside someone else’s [Story].

As expected, there were no obstacles; he could still improve. This proved his panel had a higher priority than the [Story], and none of its functions were restricted.

’So, what’s next in the story...?’

Lloyd waited for a moment, and then heard the ’narration’ in his ear again, describing how he was about to head to the Holy Judgment Court’s station in town for work.

His vision then blurred, and the scene around him shifted. He now stood before the gates of a military camp—the kind of standard garrison that guards a resource point. He happened to run into a squad of patrolling Crusaders, and they exchanged friendly greetings.

’Sigh... It seems the Butler has no idea what my daily life is like. Every day when I get to the Holy Judgment Court, the first person I see is definitely the beautiful and cute Weiya.’

Lloyd continued to complain in his head.

The next second, he saw a female character similar to Weiya’s role waving at him and reminding him to hurry up and complete today’s execution mission.

’Sigh... It seems the Butler has no idea what my work life is like, either. No one ever rushes me to finish my work. On the contrary, they’re afraid I’ll snatch everyone else’s jobs.’

Next, Lloyd experienced a rather cliché ’comeback’ storyline. He accidentally made a mistake during an execution, causing the Demon to go berserk and injure people, which sparked chaos all around. Then, that ’Weiya’ from before jumped out to accuse him.

He then took decisive action, properly resolved the crisis, and made ’Weiya’ see him in a new light.

’To be honest, it’s a bit cliché. Feels like I’m reading one of those novels from a used-book market...’

’And this ’Weiya’ is a little too direct. The moment she saw my outstanding performance, her eyes started sparkling. She’s clearly not reserved enough.’

Afterwards, accompanied by narration, Lloyd entered a relatively mundane but cushy ’storyline.’ He started getting promotions and raises, ’Weiya’ grew increasingly infatuated with him, his relationships with his colleagues improved, and he began developing the persona of a ’leader’ and ’idol.’

It was a bit fake, and some of the scenes were a bit cliché, but overall, it was still pretty sweet. This was the kind of life Lloyd rather enjoyed.

He could roughly sense the Butler’s thinking behind the ’story’s’ arrangement. It was likely to first use this kind of mundane but comfortable daily life to gradually increase the ’reader’s’ sense of immersion until they were completely in character.

’He must have also considered my personality—that I’m not the high-profile, thrill-seeking type—and so chose this gentle-natured opening.’

’If I hadn’t maintained my self-awareness from the very beginning, I probably would have been completely sucked into it, wouldn’t I?’

Lloyd briefly summarized his thoughts.

But this peaceful life didn’t last long. With a few lines of narration, the originally comfortable days took a sharp downturn.

First, his ’sister’ was bullied at work. He stood up for her but ended up provoking a powerful figure in town and attracting big trouble.

After struggling for a while and playing out a few scenes of deep sibling affection, he happened to meet the town’s noble, ’Miss Desda,’ who finally resolved the crisis.

But it was one wave after another. ’Miss Desda’ soon ran into trouble herself; all sorts of paranormal events started happening in her home, and he got dragged into it as well.

In short, the plot suddenly did a 180-degree turn, shifting from the lighthearted daily life from before straight into the bizarre.

’Uh... Isn’t this a bit too abrupt?’

Lloyd couldn’t help but start complaining in his head again.

’It feels like... you’re happily playing a school romance visual novel, and then suddenly there’s an alien invasion. Everyone at school has to pilot giant robots to fight the aliens, and then you watch as, one by one, the beautiful girls around you perish tragically...’

’Seems the Butler isn’t very good at telling stories, huh?’

’But maybe this plot was arranged this way on purpose? He wants to use these dramatic ups and downs to help me regain my self-awareness?’

While speculating, Lloyd found the source of the ’haunting’ in ’Miss Desda’s’ basement and used [Blessing Distortion] to eliminate a Bizarre Derivative.

However, as he used his power, he felt the scene around him flicker and waver, as if this ’story’ segment was becoming unstable.

’This must be a sign that I’m breaking the ’story,’ right?’

Lloyd still remembered the narration when he entered this part of the story. It said he was completely unable to handle this incident and had only forced himself to gather his courage and face it head-on.

’By that logic, I should have run away in defeat or encountered an even greater crisis next, right?’

But by taking decisive action and eliminating the Demon—which the plot dictated he shouldn’t be able to handle—he had interfered with and influenced the ’story.’

And this ’plot-breaking’ wasn’t without its consequences. Following this ’accident,’ he logically became famous in town. More and more people started coming to him for help, leading him into even more dangerous situations.

’If this continued, the ’enemies’ would surely escalate in strength until I could no longer handle them, and I would finally break down completely...’
