If any of the undead kings had caught a glimpse of Augustus at this moment, they would have been taken aback in awe. His eyes were so piercing and cold that they seemed to belong to none other than Death itself.
Suddenly, the door opened, and in came a maid holding a bundle of keys in her hand. Her appearance caused a flicker of emotion to light up Augustus’s eyes. He no longer appeared as lifeless as before.
The young maid’s face broke into a smile of relief as she spotted him, and she exclaimed, “Ah, my lord! I’ve been searching for you everywhere!”
The maid in question was a young woman by the name of Amara.
She had short black hair that fell just past her shoulders, framing her heart-shaped face perfectly. Her figure was slim and delicate, with just the right amount of curves in all the right places, including her mid-sized but shapely breasts.
She was dressed in a classic maid uniform, complete with a white apron, black dress, and black stockings that hugged her slender legs. Her black boots added a touch of elegance to her overall appearance, making her look both cute and alluring at the same time.
Augustus regarded her with a questioning expression, asking, “What’s the matter? Why were you looking for me?”
The maid took a deep breath before replying to him, “My lord, an army of humanoid rats has recently invaded the County from the sewers. The situation was looking bleak until reinforcements from the Baldwin Clan arrived and slaughtered the invaders within moments. Only two of them acted, but they were enough to kill tens of thousands of them. Anyway, I’ve been searching for you to ensure your safety. I was afraid that you might have been caught up in the unexpected event. But thanks the Sun you aren’t.”
As he listened to her account, Augustus’s eyes widened in shock.
‘Something like that happened, but I have no recollection of it?’ he thought to himself, his eyebrows arching upwards to his perfect hairline. ‘Could it be that the ego of my Force took that memory away from me as well?’
He struggled to recall the incident, but his mind drew a blank. The fact that he had no memory of it could only mean that the sadistic ego of his special-type force had erased it from his mind.
‘This must be the case,’ Augustus mused. ‘I can sense that I was in a fight, but I can’t remember who I fought. Whoever they were, they must have been incredibly powerful to force me to use my special-type force.’
Amara looked up at Augustus with wide eyes, a hint of coquettishness creeping into her voice. “I was so worried about you, my lord,” she said, her voice trembling slightly. “Won’t you please comfort me and make me forget all my worries?”
“Of course, my dear. I definitely will.”
Augustus gently pulled Amara onto his lap, her delicate form melding perfectly against his robust chest. As she settled into his embrace, a soft tremble coursed through her body, and he couldn’t help but chuckle at her reaction. The sound of his laughter caused her face to flush with heat, and she instinctively wrapped her hands around his waist, burying her head in the crook of his neck to hide her embarrassment.
“I have seen every inch of you, my love. Why are you acting so shy? Let me see your beautiful face,” Augustus cooed, his hand trailing down her back, moving towards her perky butt.
The next moment, butterflies fluttered in Amara’s stomach as she looked up at him with a loving smile, her eyes shining with affection and her face red with shyness.
“See… all you like, my lord. I am yours to be seen,” she replied softly.
“Sure.”
Augustus’s voice dropped to a low and husky timbre as he leaned in to press a soft kiss to her forehead, his fingers tracing delicate patterns across her features. His lips ghosted over her eyelids before he whispered sweet nothings into her ear, causing Amara to sigh contentedly, reveling in the warmth and affection that radiated from Augustus.
But this tender moment was more than just a fleeting romance. It was a bond forged by fate and circumstance.
The truth was that Amara and Augustus were secret lovers, bound together by a fateful encounter that had brought them together.
It had been a dark and treacherous night when Amara had been attacked by the merciless Crimson Mages that had snuck into the County in the guise of ordinary citizens.
At the time, she was serving Augustus as part of her duty as a rank-3 mage of the Constantine County. The Crimson Mages thought that killing her and wearing her skin would surely bring them closer to the secrets of the Constantines and also tame the lecherous second son.
They were vicious and powerful, and she was no match for them.
Just as she was about to meet her end, Augustus emerged from the shadows, his fierce bravery shining through as he battled the brutal attackers.
He killed the deadly attackers, but not without paying a heavy price.
He was injured severely.
His wounds were deep, and he was on the brink of death.
That’s when Amara used her magic and her life force to nurse him back to health, saving him from certain death.
Her hair turned white overnight as she poured decades of her lifespan into him through the power of her spell book. Augustus’s breath was stuck in his throat as he saw her growing old for his sake.
Augustus had asked, “Why did you risk your life for me?”
Amara hadn’t hesitated with her response, “It was the right thing to do. I couldn’t just stand by and watch as you lost your life when I had the power to save you.”
Augustus had looked at her with admiration and sighed, “You have a pure and selfless heart, Amara. You’re almost too good to be true. But people like you are the ones to die the fastest in this world.”
