Chapter 708 - 307: Fan Challenge: Li Younan’s Half-Court Three-Pointer! (2)
It’s only in the cultural atmosphere of the United States that you can play like this. In China, people caught on camera would probably want to find a hole to crawl into, feeling so awkward they’d want to scratch their feet.
Watching the couples having fun on the big screen, Li Younan initially found it amusing with a curious mindset, but the next moment, his smile froze as the screen suddenly shifted to his spot and paused.
Li Younan was stunned for a moment, and only then did he notice that sitting next to him was a young Latina beauty, slim and petite, with sun-kissed skin and black wavy hair.
The crowd started jeering again, and instinctively, Li Younan glanced to the side. The beauty was also looking at him, her expression turned a bit shy.
...
The last halftime segment was a shooting challenge, and the host introduced with a microphone: "Hey, guys, I know everyone is looking forward to this part."
"Today’s prize is very generous, but the difficulty is also high. I will invite two participants for this game, and the winner will get a jersey personally signed by James and Doncic."
The camera swept over the crowd, and the host’s voice echoed: "I will select one audience member in a Lakers jersey and another in a Warriors jersey."
Li Younan couldn’t help but feel delighted upon hearing this.
The people around him were all wearing Lakers jerseys, and as the camera passed over him, he stood up directly, waving vigorously at the camera.
Sure enough, his conspicuous act quickly stopped the camera.
Li Younan thought to himself, who would’ve thought the jersey Curry gave him yesterday could bring him such good luck.
Soon, another Lakers fan dressed in a Doncic jersey was selected.
Li Younan and this fan quickly came to the court, and the host introduced the rules: "Our challenge is very simple. Each person has five chances to shoot. Scoring from midcourt earns three points, from the logo earns two points, and from the three-point line earns one point. You can freely choose your shooting spot, and whoever has the higher score after five shots is the winner."
"Before the game starts, I want to hear your trash talk!" The host put the mic next to the Lakers fan’s mouth.
The fan cooperated enthusiastically, shouting at Li Younan: "Hey, kid, I’ll show you whose turf this is!"
The crowd erupted in a frenzy.
The host then handed the mic to Li Younan, and instead of saying anything, he mimicked Curry’s gesture and did a sleeping celebration move.
The audience responded with a chorus of boos.
"Are you ready? Let’s have our home player go first."
The so-called home player was obviously the audience member in the Lakers jersey.
Clearly, this fan had some shooting skills. He stood at the three-point line, trying a shot to find his touch.
Although his form wasn’t particularly perfect, his accuracy was there.
The first shot was unlucky, hitting the rim’s edge and bouncing off.
Following that, he slightly adjusted and steadied his position, remarkably sinking the second shot.
As his shot went in, the crowd cheered, and he celebrated by waving his hands.
He then moved to the logo position, which was still a few meters away from the three-point line.
He took a deep breath, pushed hard, and the ball veered off.
On the fourth shot, he adjusted again. Obviously prepared, he sank this shot steadily, earning another round of cheers.
The final shot came with the crowd quieting completely as he prepared to shoot again, like a true star focusing on the hoop before throwing with all his strength.
The ball soared in a high arc and banked in.
"Our home player sank two logo shots and a regular three-pointer, scoring a total of five points! Let’s cheer for our player!"
The fan jubilantly raised his hands high, celebrating the shot, even taunting Li Younan by flexing his muscles.
Facing this, Li Younan simply chuckled in silence.
Next, it was Li Younan’s turn. Holding the ball, he hadn’t yet reached his shooting spot when the crowd’s booing enveloped him.
Unaffected, Li Younan glanced at the hoop and walked directly to the half-court line.
The host immediately stirred up the crowd: "Alright, alright, the fan from Golden State has chosen the toughest spot. Let’s see what happens."
The booing from the crowd continued unabated.
Li Younan focused on the hoop, took a deep breath, and descended while holding the ball. Then, with a very smooth effort, the force transferred from his feet upwards, and the basketball rolled off his fingertips.
This shot didn’t use much strength; his coordinated effort made it feel incredibly easy, causing the spectators to gasp in surprise upon seeing Li Younan’s release.
Unfortunately, the shot was slightly short, hitting the rim’s edge and bouncing out, though the trajectory was spot on.
The home fans responded with even louder boos.
Li Younan smiled faintly, glanced towards the audience, his expression being broadcast live on the big screen.
Li Younan picked up the ball again, this time skipping any adjustments and shooting immediately.
The basketball carved a beautiful arc in the air and struck home.
The crowd fell silent for a moment, with only the Warriors fans cheering, almost as if Li Younan and his opponent were representing their respective teams in battle.
These two shots were merely warm-ups for Li Younan.
Those used to showcasing themselves on big stages understand the more adrenaline-pumping and nerve-wracking the moment, the better the physical condition usually is.
After making this shot, Li Younan felt his hands were on fire.
His shooting skills complemented his precise trajectory; what he needed was control over power. The midcourt distance was about the maximum effort for his normal shooting posture, so maintaining constant strength was relatively simple after just pitching the ball.
He took a deep breath, hesitated no more, picked up a ball and shot it, and without lifting his head, picked up the second ball and shot it, then picked up the third ball and shot it.
As his third ball left his hands, the first ball swished into the hoop, followed by the second and third balls, with no delay. All three balls fell consecutively!
The crowd was left speechless.
After making these three successive shots, Li Younan mimicked Curry, doing a sleeping celebration move.
But the next moment, the entire arena was in an uproar.
At this moment, people no longer focused on the Warriors tag on Li Younan, or its potential effect on their passion.
At the same time, the reminders for gaining Starlight Value kept popping up.
