Chapter 890 - 890 - You’re Using Me. Good.
Broken inhaled slowly, steadying himself. Every movement—every breath—he measured carefully, doing everything in his power to keep his posture calm, neutral. The last thing he wanted now was to provoke Queen Nerisa further.
He knew one thing for certain: if she had truly come in wrath, she wouldn’t be standing here speaking to him.
“You found me easily enough,” he said, voice even, unshaken.
“Yes,” she replied smoothly, “even if you had tried to hide.”
He tilted his head slightly. “I wasn’t trying to hide. I already told you—I couldn’t stay in your kingdom for too long. That’s why I invited you here. And you accepted.”
Queen Nerisa began to walk—slow, poised, and now close enough for their eyes to meet without effort.
“Don’t speak casually to me,” she said, her voice low but sharp, “not when you know I’ve come with intentions.”
“You’ve been threatening me since the moment we met,” Broken replied evenly. “I know. So what now? You going to destroy me?”
“I can destroy everything you’ve built,” she said.
He shook his head. “Sure. You could. But I’d just come back—and you wouldn’t get the egg. That would make it pointless.”
“I could kill you… and take the egg.”
Broken took a step closer, his tone still level, but edged now with something colder. He smiled faintly.
“Don’t take me casually.” He held her gaze. “Listen. You can’t kill me. And you won’t get what you want that way. But I do have a solution.”
“I have a solution,” Queen Nerisa said, cutting into his words with cool finality.
“Good,” Broken replied, eyeing her carefully. “I hope it’s not the same ‘solution’ you’ve offered.”
The queen paused—just for a breath—then continued with unsettling calm.
“You can move the island. Bring it closer to my territory.”
Broken blinked slowly. “Yes, sure, I can… but I haven’t exactly tried it yet,” he said, voice flat.
And that wasn’t a lie.
He hadn’t attempted it. Not because he lacked the means—but because he wasn’t ready. Not even close.
This was exactly the kind of situation he’d discussed with Maylock and the others about. Drawing too much attention to the Floating Island while its defenses were still incomplete, while its structures were half-formed and its army barely seasoned—that was reckless. Dangerous.
Yes, Queen Nerisa was powerful. Her forces were elite. But she wasn’t the strongest force in the ocean. Far from it. Even Broken didn’t know how deep that abyss of power went beneath the waves.
“Then do it,” she said smoothly. “I’ll escort you myself.”
Broken’s brow furrowed. Something about her tone—so casual, so confident—made alarm bells go off in his head. He narrowed his gaze.
“Tell me the truth, Queen,” he said. “How many ocean kingdoms would I have to pass through… just to reach your territory?”
She met his stare and answered without hesitation.
“Two.”
Two.
That was it.
No hesitation. No shame. No concern. Just a clean, effortless drop of the most ridiculous suggestion he’d heard in weeks.
Broken let out a long breath, exhaling slowly through his nose. This woman… she wasn’t just bold—she was terrifyingly unbothered.
And no, he wasn’t about to casually stroll a half-built kingdom through two unpredictable ocean domains just because she decided it sounded convenient.
No matter how graceful the throne or how calm the voice—this was a bad idea.
A dangerous one.
And Broken knew better than to play along.
Broken offered a faint, almost tired smile as he answered, “And my answer is no.”
Queen Nerisa’s gaze sharpened, her voice now firmer. “What do you mean no?”
“Yes. No.” His tone didn’t waver. “You want the egg. That’s all. But I have more to prioritize. I’m not about to risk exposing my island to attacks from two unknown ocean territories just to make things convenient for you. So the answer stays the same—no.”
“I will force you,” the queen said, voice low and absolute.
Broken exhaled slowly—like he was negotiating with a stone wall rather than a ruler. This wasn’t a conversation. Not really. Nerisa wasn’t here to compromise—she was here to win, to claim what she wanted, as she always had.
She wanted him—wanted the egg—but she wrapped that desire in veiled threats and thin diplomacy. She was the type of woman who was used to getting what she wanted… and punishing those who didn’t fall in line.
“Listen, Queen Nerisa,” Broken said. “Stay here. On this island. It’ll make your job easier. There’s no need for anyone to get hurt. No cities need to be destroyed.”
“No,” she replied coldly. “I don’t accept negotiations.”
“You should,” Broken muttered, his patience thinning.
He was already thinking of alternatives.
One stood out—the Trial Tower. If he could reach the 30th floor, there was a chance he’d be rewarded with another Gate. A new way to connect their locations without risking his island’s safety. If that happened, this whole conversation could end in peace.
But he wasn’t there yet. He’d only reached the 29th floor. The final step was close—he could feel it—but not complete.
Not yet.
Just a little more time.
And hopefully, Queen Nerisa wouldn’t set the entire ocean on fire before he got there.
“I have a way to reach your kingdom easily,” Broken said, his voice even, gaze steady. “But I need to finish something first. Give me three months. You stay here, on the island, and if I fail… I’ll come to your kingdom myself and stay until the egg hatches.”
Queen Nerisa fell silent, her eyes narrowing as she considered his offer.
Broken knew exactly what she was weighing. The last time she had left her kingdom for too long, it had come under attack—by demons, no less. That experience would make anyone cautious. And yet… here she was, standing before him. That alone told him how important this was to her.
“Three months,” he repeated. “That’s not a long time for someone like you.”
Still, she said nothing.
And then, after a long pause, her voice finally broke through the stillness.
“…Three months,” she said at last.
A grin crept onto Broken’s face. He hadn’t expected negotiations with a ruler of her stature to end like this. No shouting. No war. Just a deal struck on a razor’s edge.
Three months. That should be enough.
As he glanced toward the troops she’d brought with her. An idea flickered in his mind.
“Will you be staying here with your forces?”
She didn’t answer.
Didn’t need to.
He already knew.
“Good,” he continued smoothly. “You’re free to stay on the island or in the ocean, whichever you prefer. But I’m sure your army could help. With the island’s construction. Or even assisting with monster hunting. Sounds like a win-win for both of us, doesn’t it?”
That’s when her eyes turned to him again—sharp, icy, challenging.
“You’re using me.”
Broken smiled faintly. “You’re using me too. Let’s not pretend this isn’t mutual.”
Without waiting for a reply, he whistled softly, and Polly soared back to his side. He leapt onto her back in one smooth motion, then extended a hand toward Nerisa.
“Need a ride?”
She didn’t speak.
Instead, the waters beneath her feet suddenly surged, spiraling upward in a roar of power. In an instant, a massive column of water exploded beneath her, propelling her high into the air like a living geyser. She shot skyward—graceful and untouchable—as if the sea itself carried her.
Broken blinked, stunned. “Woah…”
He grinned.
“Polly, let’s chase her.”
