Chapter 183: Unconscious Mia

After their first successful exploration, they did not hasten to return to the Obsidian Wing.

They continued exploring the caves one after another, while Doctor Eleanor strictly forbade Felix from entering the underground ecosystem for the sake of her team’s peace of mind.

A month passed.

Doctor Eleanor had just left a cave when a beast tamer from another team anxiously rushed toward her.

Doctor Eleanor frowned.

Although she was unfamiliar with the beast tamer, that only meant he had come from another Lord’s team—and judging from his expression, he appeared to have brought bad news.

"What is it?"

The beast tamer bowed in front of her and said, "Doctor Eleanor. We need you.

"No, the Hill Family needs you."

Doctor Eleanor’s eyes widened.

"What happened to them?"

She initially thought that another expedition team had returned with a beast tamer or beast suffering from a serious injury that only she could heal.

But she was baffled as to why the Hill Family would need her aid when they were under the protection of Sky Marshal Kaelor.

The beast tamer swept his gaze around, and when he did not see Felix, he explained.

"Mia was allowed to explore inside the plane when she accidentally discovered a leak that allowed a portion of Abyssal Energy to enter, though it was immediately dispersed by Sky Marshal Kaelor’s Aura.

"But Mia was mischievous... or probably just curious.

"Seeing that the plane was already protected by Sky Marshal Kaelor’s Aura, she actually used some means to expand the leak and sneak out!

"She was gone for days until Sky Marshal Kaelor himself went looking for her and discovered her convulsing body near the corrupted zone!

"She’s actually still alive despite having been exposed to the corruption.

"Sky Marshal Kaelor tried to suppress the Abyssal Energy inside her body, but he was helpless.

"That’s why he ordered me to call you as soon as possible."

Doctor Eleanor drew a sharp breath.

Should I inform Felix about this?

She turned toward the cave where Felix had entered, but then shook her head.

She said to one of the beast tamers behind her, "Wait for Felix to appear and inform him of what happened to his younger sister.

"The rest of you can return with me."

The beast tamer immediately nodded.

Although he wanted to return to the Obsidian Wing with the others, he did not mind being entrusted with the responsibility of informing Felix about what had happened to his sister.

Since he could maintain his Aura and wait for Felix for even a month, this responsibility was well within his capabilities.

Felix’s contributions were undeniable, and he was grateful for them.

If it were not for Felix, perhaps he would not have been able to survive until now.

Doctor Eleanor summoned her fastest beast—the Frostmane White Wolf.

The other beast tamers followed. Every single one of them had their own beast that possessed immense agility and speed, including the beast tamer who had come to inform Doctor Eleanor.

Doctor Eleanor grabbed the White Wolf’s mane and immediately ordered it to rush toward the Obsidian Wing.

The beast tamers followed behind her, but the Frostmane White Wolf eventually left them behind.

Doctor Eleanor did not care.

She had to hurry.

Every second could mean the difference between life and death for Mia.

As Eleanor raced toward the Obsidian Wing, she remembered Nicholas.

Nicholas had done exactly what Mia had done, except intentionally.

He had entered a corrupted zone and meditated there, believing the dense Abyssal Energy would accelerate his cultivation.

At first, his Energy reserves increased rapidly.

Then the symptoms began.

His body developed a fever.

His meridians became unstable.

His Energy Core began fluctuating.

His contracted beasts eventually became infected through their contracts.

Eleanor had used every one of her six beasts.

The Verdant Pulse Stag maintained his vitality.

The Stoneback Healing Tortoise stabilized his Energy Core.

The Frostmane White Wolf controlled his fever.

The Luminous Vein Butterfly mapped his corrupted circulation.

The Silver Thread Viper repaired his damaged meridians.

The Nightwatch Hollow Owl protected and monitored his consciousness.

Yet none of them could remove the Abyss.

And when Eleanor finally attempted purification, she discovered the terrible truth.

For several seconds, it looked as though she had succeeded.

The black energy left Nicholas’s meridians.

His breathing normalized.

His consciousness returned.

Then his Energy Core began collapsing.

The reason was simple.

The Abyssal Energy had already become integrated into his Energy system.

Removing it was no longer equivalent to removing poison.

It was equivalent to removing part of the patient’s newly altered energy circulation.

That was when Eleanor reached her conclusion:

Once Abyssal Energy completely integrates into a Beast Tamer’s body and contracted beasts, the patient cannot be cured.

And because Nicholas’s beasts had also been corrupted through the contract, they had to be terminated as well.

That case had stayed with Eleanor.

She hated the conclusion.

But she couldn’t argue with it.

She could not help but feel worried for Mia.

When she finally left the vertical cliff and ran across the plateau, she suddenly recalled an important piece of information.

Something very important.

Mia’s unusual physiology.

She had witnessed it before.

Mia’s body had always demonstrated an abnormal ability to accept foreign Energy.

Other people had to carefully refine Energy before incorporating it.

Mia was different.

Her body could adapt.

It was almost as though her meridians could reshape themselves around different Energy properties.

Eleanor’s eyes widened.

What if that’s why she’s still alive?

Nicholas’s body had resisted the Abyss.

That resistance caused tremendous internal damage.

Then, once the Abyss overcame that resistance, it integrated into his system.

But Mia...

Mia’s body might be doing something completely different.

Instead of rejecting the Abyss...

It might be trying to adapt to it.

Her eyes widened.

Mia’s body could freely accept and adapt to different types of Energy. She’s like an empty vessel capable of adapting to different Energy properties.

What if her body is actually accepting Abyssal Energy?

Suddenly, she frowned.

That isn’t right. If her body is accepting it, why is she suffering from the symptoms of Abyssal corruption?

One of the main symptoms of failed integration was violent convulsions, as the beast tamer had mentioned.

However, Sky Marshal Kaelor would not have called her here and given her a chance to attempt curing Mia if this were simply another case like those in the past.

As the Obsidian Wing came into view, a plausible conclusion suddenly passed through her mind, invigorating her determination to save Mia.

Mia isn’t accepting the Abyssal Energy.

But it’s still attempting to integrate.

There’s a huge difference!

When Doctor Eleanor arrived, Sky Marshal Kaelor and the Hill Family were gathered around the bedridden Mia.

In fact, Sarah had lost consciousness after suffering an anxiety attack and crying herself hoarse.

Noah sat beside his wife, unable to tear his gaze away from Mia.

Even when Doctor Eleanor arrived, his gaze remained fixed on her, his heart clenching every time Mia convulsed.

Doctor Eleanor immediately examined Mia, while Sky Marshal Kaelor stood silently nearby.

Mia was already in terrible condition.

She was barely conscious, suffering from a burning fever, and her body periodically convulsed.

Doctor Eleanor examined her for some time before finally reaching a conclusion.

"It hasn’t reached the corruption stage yet."

Sky Marshal Kaelor nodded and finally backed away.

Seeing his action, Noah carried Sarah and walked past Doctor Eleanor.

"I’m counting on you again, Doctor."

Instead, she summoned all six of her beasts at once.

Doctor Eleanor started with her Verdant Pulse Stag.

The Stag released a gentle Verdant Pulse throughout Mia’s body.

Eleanor instantly received information about Mia’s heart rhythm, breathing, blood circulation, organ function, cellular vitality, and metabolic activity from the Stag.

The results looked terrible.

Mia’s heart was beating too quickly.

Her muscles were contracting involuntarily.

Her organs were under enormous stress.

Her metabolism was fluctuating wildly.

But then Doctor Eleanor noticed something strange.

Mia’s organs were not actually failing.

They were being overstimulated.

Her body was working desperately to compensate for something.

She reached a conclusion.

She’s critically unstable, but she’s not dying from organ failure.

In short, this isn’t simply a conventional poison.

Doctor Eleanor then ordered the Frostmane White Wolf to move forward and use Frost Regulation on Mia.

Mia’s temperature began to fall.

But Eleanor didn’t stop there.

She watched what happened afterward.

The moment the Wolf reduced Mia’s temperature, her body began generating heat again.

Her temperature rose.

The Wolf lowered it.

It rose again.

Eleanor narrowed her eyes.

The fever isn’t originating from the body.

The Wolf was treating the symptom, but something was continuously causing Mia’s temperature to spike.

Eleanor realized that the heat was accompanying an abnormal surge of Energy.

So she recorded her second finding:

Abyssal exposure is causing systemic Energy instability, which is producing the fever.

The fever itself wasn’t the primary disease.

Eleanor then had her Luminous Vein Butterfly examine Mia.

The Butterfly activated Vein Sight.

Its wings glowed with luminous light.

Suddenly, Eleanor could see Mia’s internal circulation.

She expected to find Abyssal Energy concentrated somewhere.

Instead, she saw it moving.

It was scattered throughout Mia’s Energy pathways.

But it wasn’t moving randomly.

It was following existing pathways.

Eleanor watched carefully.

The Abyssal Energy entered one channel.

Then another.

Then spread toward several branching pathways.

She quickly realized...

It’s using Mia’s existing Energy circulation system.

This was different from Nicholas.

Nicholas’s corruption had eventually created its own pathways.

Mia’s Abyssal Energy was still being forced through her existing system.

That was a very important distinction.

And it was the reason Doctor Eleanor’s hope of curing Mia remained alive.
