Legend of the chosen ones: Beyond Destiny
Chapter 1832 - 941: Ill-Fated Encounter, Narrow Road for Enemies (Part 3)
The slightly empty cabin wasn't even half full, with everyone scattered around finding their own seats, completely ignoring the numbers on their tickets.
But right there in the aisle, in the moment when he brushed past an ordinary middle-aged backpacker, he couldn't control a sudden shock, feeling a chill down his spine.
A warning from instinct.
An expert!
The scruffy backpacker seemed to sense something too, turning back to look at him, his cold gaze sweeping past before slowly retracting.
As if they were merely nodding to each other in acknowledgment.
Like him, unwilling to stir up additional trouble, uninterested in further entanglement...
Noticing the other's hint, Viper's heart calmed slightly, voluntarily stepping aside to clear the path, and the two tacitly distanced themselves, sitting almost at opposite ends of the cabin.
What followed was like a sleep-deprived traveler, lying back in his seat and closing his eyes to pretend to rest.
Yet, for some reason, he still felt restless inside, difficult to calm the turmoil.
Always feeling like something was off, but unable to pinpoint exactly what...
Until he saw, not far away, that old face etched with wrinkles.
The withered, hunched old man seemed to sense something too, looking over at him, his cloudy eyes suddenly harboring a faint cold gleam.
Viper's heart thumped sharply, almost out of control… Flame Python, that old dog!
Misfortune upon misfortune, enemies meet!
Recognizing each other's disguises and familiar aura in that split second, the two were dumbfounded, the old man's brows furrowed, his pupils beneath the colored lenses narrowing into slits.
Prepared to kill at any moment!
But in this secretive and brief standoff, neither made a move.
Even if there were times of life-and-death struggle, it was just business, everyone working for money, not dealing with a personal target, it wasn't worth it.
Suppressing the malice and vigilance in his heart, the old man took back his gaze.
Viper leaned against the corner, staring at the blue sky, white clouds, and waves of the sea outside, his peripheral vision sweeping over each passenger in the cabin.
Not far by the window, a young girl with fashionable makeup and sweet attire was taking selfies, finding the right angle, but in the palm holding the phone, there was a faint layer of thick callouses...
The middle-aged man in front, sleeping soundly with an eye mask, drool streaming and snoring continuously, but the rise and fall of his chest was as precise as if measured with a ruler, hardly changing by a bit.
The obese man, occupying three seats and adorned with gold chains on his neck and wrists, kept eating non-stop, occasionally revealing under the tire-like thick layer of fat, sinewy, resilient muscles like the roots of an old tree.
The more he observed, the more his heart pounded and his body trembled with fear.
There were even some he couldn't see through at all, yet long-absent instincts kept sending warnings.
What the hell is going on!
If he wasn't sure that he wasn't notable enough for such targeted action, he'd almost think the middleman wanted to take out both parties and handle him!
But why…
Why did he only just realize all this now?!
Viper began to sweat.
Some inexplicable dread surfaced in his heart, making him unable to control, suddenly standing up, drawing countless gazes.
But the sweating Viper didn't care anymore, ignoring Flame Python's warning look, walked straight over, and asked bluntly, "Are you here for a job?"
"I'm sorry, sir, I don't know what you're talking about."
The old man replied ambiguously, unwilling to engage, yet hearing Viper's near-breaking voice demanding, "I'm damn well asking if you're here for a job, to kill!
You deaf old dog!"
He held onto that flickering hope, staring at him intently:
"Is it New Spring's task?"
In that moment, Flame Python seemed taken aback, his pupils slightly contracting.
Even as if it were an illusion… upon hearing the word 'New Spring,' the entire cabin seemed to fall silent.
No one spoke or moved, even the snores abruptly stopped.
In the long silence, the old man, young girl, woman, the family of four on vacation, indifferent backpacker, vlogger recording, company employee on a business trip, sweetly traveling couple, even the Chihuahua barking in the cage in the corner…
Everyone was frozen.
In this dreadfully short yet agonizingly long moment of time, unable to stop themselves from looking up, exchanging glances.
The once-detached backpacker slowly stood up, breaking the silence:
"Hey, friend, what do you mean?"
"Haha, could it be that everyone here has taken New Spring's task?" Someone chuckled softly from the corner of the cabin, as if bemused: "That would be interesting."
No one spoke.
Nor did anyone speak again.
In the hum of the cabin, only faces rapidly turning pale, reflecting the searing redness growing closer outside the window.
"Damn it."
Viper chuckled self-deprecatingly, looking out the window, at the streak of approaching radiance: "This is it…"
