Chapter 91: Can You Not?
Chapter 91: Can You Not?
Seeing the dumbfounded looks on Malia, Avrum, Noir, and Sigma, Kyran regretted speaking his mind. Their reaction was almost the same reaction Nolan made when he commented about Celine’s magic having a deadly offence when used differently.
“Sorry. Please forget what I said,” Kyran hastily said. “It was an amateur thinking.”
Snapping out of her reverie, Malia shook her head and said, “No. Not at all! It is just, the thought never occurred to us before. A potion to change a person’s appearance… there had been studies done in making a person look younger or beautiful but not really change their appearance…”
“Yes. It is actually feasible. I mean, creating a mask with array calculations that can change a person’s face… the idea is ingenious!” Noir also agreed.
“Is it?” Kyran asked uneasily.
His question was just a passing thought. It did not mean anything. Which made him feel a little uneasy because Noir thought it was an ingenious idea.
“Hm. If we can find the correct materials that can adapt to the array’s calculation… No, first we have to make sure the calculation used are correct,” Sigma said, looking thoughtful.
“True. The calculation must also be done in a way that it can be easily changed. This way, adjusting the structure of the materials to reflect the person’s facial features would be easier. However, the materials to be refined must be able to adapt to the changes made on the array… If such a mask is created and sell it-no, selling such an item is pretty dangerous…” Noir replied.
On the other side, Malia and Avrum were also talking.
Avrum leaned back on his chair with a thoughtful expression. He said, “Changing a person’s appearance will use two different herbs that has decomposition or recomposition effects. But because both have opposite effects, creating a potion that has these two will normally be impossible.”
“True,” Malia agreed. “But this will only happen if the two herbs are mixed at the same time. If we find the correct timing, added by a herb with stabilizing effect then…”
Callan, Emery, Hugh and Vaness, could not help but sweat at them. Due to the nature of their business, once presented with ideas of possible new creations, they tend to get distracted easily.
Kyran cleared his throat, seeing the four had started their discussion.
“As much as I am glad that yo thinuk my idea is possible, let me remind you that I am supposed to be introduced in the banquet later. I don’t think there is enough time for us to make one.”
Hearing Kyran’s reminder, a sudden realization hit the four of them.
“That is right,” Noir agreed with a disappointed expression.
“However, given the time we can definitely make one.” Avrum still insisted.
“Time?” Stella smiled mischievously. “I can help with that.”
Black lines appeared on Kyran’s head as he looked at Stella. He scoldingly said, “Can you not? If we get sidetracked again we won’t be able to finish tonight.”
Stella smiled innocently at him and said, “I was only saying.”
Kyran sighed.
Callan, Emery, Hugh and Vaness also sighed. They did get sidetracked a lot, and if the Lord tolerated the discussion of the other four, they would end up finishing the meeting past midnight.
Malek finally clapped his hand once, and the noise inside died down.
“Let us discuss that matter later,” he told them and made a sidelong glance at Kyran. “I know of a way to change your appearance later. But I will only do this once, because of its urgency.”
Stella smiled and looked at Malek, “Thank you.”
Malek cleared his throat and shifted in his seat but did not say anything.
Kyran also did not reply but did nod his head in acknowledgement.
“Alright. The things I needed, are those two. I might also ask for other information but that depends on the situation I am in. I am sure you have a way to contact your people. But I will not use this. It is best to create a different means of contact,” he continued.
“My reason is simple. If in case I am caught, and they find anything on me that they can trace back to your end, then it will implicate the Conclave and everything will go downhill.”
When they heard Kyran’s explanation, they felt a sense of relief that he was still thinking ahead to make sure not to get them in trouble with the army. However, they also felt embarrassed for feeling this way.
“For a new means of contact, I will let you know once I’ve tried it.” Kyran added.
“You mean you already thought of it?” Hugh asked in surprise.
“Well, I have come up with two ways, but the first one may need some time to get used to. While the other one is still a theory, and I will need to learn about arrays first.”
Noir nodded, “Alright. If you have any particular questions on array creation then you can list it down until our meeting.”
“I will,” Kyran replied. He looked at Stella and added, “If there is any information that I requested that you believe will not be wise to share, just let me know. I will not insist on getting it. However, it if you can provide a way for me to get the information myself that will help me a lot.”
Stella smiled with a nod, “Okay.”
He turned his attention back at the rest of the council.
“I have said most of what I want to say,” Kyran paused for a moment before he added, “But I have one last thing to discuss.”
The council members remained silent as they waited for him to continue.
“I know you’ve done your best to cover up what I did a few days ago, both at the Mercenary Hall and here. But I want you to let at least what happened at the Mercenary Hall be known by the army.”
As soon as he said this, most of them looked at him in confusion.
Stella, however, looked at him in concern. She asked, “Why?”
“To make sure they will not link me to the Conclave,” Kyran explained. “Make them believe that I attacked the Mercenary Hall because I found out about my bounty. This is also part of the plan I have in providing the information about my whereabouts.”
Hugh leaned back on his chair and heaved a sigh.
The truth, he thought the same. However, he did not raise it because he already felt ashamed of letting Kyran take on all the burden.
Sigma also scowled. He hated what Kyran did, but after knowing his thoughts and getting to understand a bit more of his character, he realized that this rascal’s sense of responsibility did not reflect his age. Kyran was only a teenager, yet he was willing to carry all the burden alone. Sigma finally understood Callan’s words when they had their first meeting regarding what happened and Malia’s words before the meeting.
‘The rascal’s desperate. But now that he calmed down, he was willing to take responsibility without hesitation.’ He thought.
Seeing the determined look in Kyran’s eyes, Stella could only relent and remained silent. She wanted to lighten his burden. But after hearing his plans and understanding his intentions, she realized that the Conclave’s situation had put another burden on him.
Although Kyran caused their situation, Stella already planned to upgrade the Tower’s defensive array. Kyran destroying the array just happened before she could put her plan into motion.
“If you have anything, you want to ask or tell me. Please go ahead,” Kyran said.
The rest of the council exchanged glances, but none said anything.
Stella nodded after a short pause and looked at Malek.
Malek, in turn, nodded his head in acknowledgement.
He stood up and said, “Now that we have addressed more or less everything, if there are no urgent matter you wanted to be discussed today, we will now adjourn.”
He then looked at Kyran and added, “You said you will meet with Hugh and Callan separately. Do you plan to do that now?”
Kyran looked at him as well.
Seeing this scene, the rest of the council members held their breaths. This was the first time they would address each other properly. They had been civil with each other so far, but they had never looked at each other.
“Yes. You and Stella can stay.” Kyran answered.
Malek’s brow twitched at Kyran’s mention of the Lord’s name. He kept track of how many times Kyran spoke her name during the meeting. Each time, Male’s brow had twitched to the point it had become a reflex.
“Very well,” Malek acknowledged.
The rest of the council members heaved a sigh of relief as if they had just avoided a calamity.
Malek turned his attention back to the rest of the council members and said, “Hugh, Callan, please stay. The rest, you may return to your rooms and I will have someone call for you once the banquet starts.”
The rest of the council members stood up and bowed in his direction and said in unison, “Yes, Head Master.”
