Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 592 Ascending Realm (1)

Light wore an unbelieving expression while staring at Kyran, after witnessing him unleash a powerful range Light magic attack.

Light’s reaction is justified.

If Light was using magic arrays, Kyran’s sudden use of Light magic attack could be justified. Any mage could summon other magic as long as they knew that magic’s rune system. If that mage also hadh in-depth knowledge in Runes, the power output of their attack would be better. However, it was still uncomparable to mages with innate magic unleashing an attack.

Light’s understanding of this fact was shattered by Kyran with one simple move.

Because the strength of Kyran’s Light magic attack is not inferior to Light’s— an impossible feat especially when Kyran possessed Void magic, which was considered too perverse but limits its user from using other magic.

It made Light reassessed Kyran’s worth to their faction’s objective.

If Kyran could use other magic as effective as others possessing innate magic, then he might be able to use Soul magic.

At least, that was what Light believed— which was actually a valid reasoning since Light magic was considered rare magic yet Kyran seemed to have mastered it to a certain level just by fighting Light.

Aside from this, Kyran actually managed to keep up with Light.

It should be noted that although the latter could not fathom Kyran’s level, it was still inferior to him.

There was also the fact of how complex Light magic’s nature was, almost every enemy Light fought in the past could do nothing but perish or surrender.

It was Light’s first time experiencing someone who managed not only to counter Light magic but also ‘assimilate it.’

‘Is this the true nature of Void magic?’ Light wondered, full of disbelief and envy. Recalling how Kyran stubbornly absorbed all Light magic attack during their fight, Light added, ‘Could it be that the more he absorbed my attacks, he’s able to learn Light magic?’

No matter how much Light thought of it, the idea was absurd. But then, how could anyone explain Kyran managing to release a magic attack akin to Light magic?

‘This can’t go on,’ Light decided feeling somewhat frightened.

If they continue to fight, wouldn’t Light’s threat decrease? And when that happened, Light could no longer hold the advantage.

‘But how can I redeem the situation when even my domain doesn’t seem to work on him?’ Light wondered, feeling an incoming headache.

While Light was lost in thought, Kyran continued to study all the experience he absorbed about Light magic.

As the two fought, Kyran started to use Light magic attacks. In order to

Light’s fear intensified after confirming that Kyran not only learned the magic attacks Light unleashed, but was also learning new magic attacks.

‘This guy…’

Light indeed feared Kyran’s magic but at the same time a liberating feeling engulfed Light’s very core. If they managed to get Kyran’s cooperation, then the Soul Emperor was no longer required.

With this in mind, Light made a decision.

Light would get Kyran to cooperate with them.

A beam of light concentrated magic attack flashed toward Light.

Light waved a hand and summoned a similar attack.

BOOM!

When the two magic attacks met, an explosion occur, followed by a shockwave that swept around the two.

As the shockwave swept through their bodies, a light sheen— a tell-tale sign of a magic barrier— appeared on Light. Kyran on the other hand did not summon a Void barrier. Instead, a thin dark purple vortex appeared around him and absorbed the shockwave.

“Let us stop here, new Dark Sage.”

Although Osric had tried to trick Light in thinking that Kyran was probably not the new Dark Sage, their fight already proved the latter’s identity.

Kyran did not respond and only looked at Light.

“We are only wasting time like this,” Light continued and released its barrier after the shockwave dissipated.

“You said that you could not see eye to eye with the Soul Emperor and I now respect that. I also wanted to apologize for saying that the impending war in the Human plane is petty compared to the real war outside,” Light paused as if choosing how to continue. “It was insensitive of me. After all, this plane is your original plane and everything that happens here is significant to both you and the Soul Emperor.

“I don’t know why you two are oppose to each other, and I don’t really want to know. But I am now convinced that talking to you should be a priority over meeting the Soul Emperor.”

“Does that mean you are willing to answer my question about the War of the Sovereigns?” Kyran asked, cutting Light for a moment.

Light feel silent for a few seconds but in the end nodded, “Yes. If that is your requirement in order to listen to us.”

Kyran raised his brows innocently, “I never mention about having a requirement.”

Light’s brow twitched slightly in annoyance but then said could, “You are absolutely right. But I believe talking to you will eventually lead to something.”

Hearing Light put an emphasis to the word ‘something,’ Kyran could not help but smile wryly. Obviously, the former’s objective remained the same— have Kyran cooperate with their faction.

Nevertheless, with Light willing to compromise byt talking to Kyran without meeting with Haylee yet, was definitely because of how he seemed to have the ability to use other magic even if it was not his innate one.

Kyran knew his worth increased because of this and Light probably believed he could also learn how to use other magic. He did not know why Light wanted to recruit Haylee, but obviously it had something to do with her magic.

Could it be that Light thought Kyran could learn how to use Soul Magic? Kyran could not help but smile wryly at the thought.

In the first place, Soul magic was Ancient magic. If he could learn how to use it, he would have already done it. He had the book on Ancient Magic and there were information there about Soul magic.

Unfortunately, Kyran could only trigger the book to show contents about the other two magic— Soul and Time. He could not ‘learn’ how to use them from the information he read about them there. After all, he did not possess the their magic cores.

‘Come to think of it, I haven’t tried reading the information about Draconic magic in that book,’ Kyran thought. His suddenly wandering thoughts was testament that he no longer felt threatened facing Light.

Good thing Light did not make a move when Kyran did not respond immediately. As a matter of fact, the former thought the latter was thinking over what the former had said.

Putting aside the matter about reading the information of Draconic magic in the book, Kyran studied Light for a few seconds before finally replying.

“Tell me about the War of the Sovereigns first. I’ll judge whether there is any worth in continuing the discussion.”

Light smiled after hearing Kyran’s response. With the latter showing a more lenient attitude, Light believed there was a good chance to salvage the current situation.

“Alright. I’ll follow your lead,” Light said and answered Kyran’s earlier question soon after.

“The War of the Sovereigns is a battle between several Sovereigns in order to ascend to the Higher realm.”

Kyran’s brow furrowed at once. He heard about the Higher realm before and believed it was only a classification of where a plane was located. He was somewhat surprised and also wary that the War of the Sovereign had something to do about ascending to the Higher realm.𝞸𝓋𝓵xt.𝒞𝓞𝓶

Before Kyran could ask any question, Light continued.

“I don’t know if you are aware but the Human plane belonged to the lowest part of the Lower Realm.”

This information did not surprise Kyran. However, he felt somewhat indignant at how Light sounded smug by pointing out the Human plane’s standing.

As if sensing Kyran’s displeasure, Light let out an amused laugh and said, “Don’t worry about such things. There are several powerful Sovereigns who belonged to a plane placed among the bottom-tier of the Lower Realm. Nevertheless, their strength was not inferior to the Sovereigns who belonged to the middle and top-tiers.”

‘Besides, the Human plane is special. It is the Plane of the Ancients, after all,’ Light added inwardly.

“Continue,” Kyran urged Light.

“Alright,” the latter nodded. “Anyhow, in that war, every Sovereigns teamed up with one another to clinch victory.”

Seeing the look of understanding reflected in Kyran’s eyes, Light smiled and nodded, “That’s right. The War of the Sovereigns is not about winner takes all. It is how several Sovereigns in one faction wins the war.”

“Winning means ascending the Higher Realm,” Kyran started. “What does that mean?”

“Simple,” Light answered and paused dramatically before continuing. “The faction who won the war will have all their planes under their authority ascend the Higher Realm and receive the benefits of becoming part of it.”

Kyran frowned at the simplicity of what Light said. He even felt a little disappointed, “That’s it?”
