Chapter 582 Conflict Of Interest
It all made sense to Kyran now why Sovereigns wanted to conquer planes with no Sovereign. They wanted to gather people from that plane and use them as pawns for the war.
If Kyran’s guess was correct, when the Demons appeared in the Human plane, it was after they lost their plane to another Sovereign. Their plane’s Sovereign probably died in the hands of another Sovereign, or the Demon plane did not have a Sovereign and got conquered by one in a short amount of time.
Kyran discovered the reason behind the demons’ invasion was that their plane got destroyed. But up till now, Kyran did not know why it got destroyed. Initially, he thought it was an internal conflict. Now, he had an inkling it was likely due to several Sovereigns trying to conquer the plane and ending up devastating it instead.
Before the Demon plane got destroyed, one of the leading demons likely found a way to enter and transport every surviving demon to the Human plane. The previous Soul Emperor might have been involved in how the demons found the Human plane and entered it successfully. And then, after transferring over, they agreed to help her with her goal in return for allowing them to live in the Human plane.πππ³xt.πΈππͺ
As for her goal, it was none other than to cause discord in the Human plane, allowing her to amass more souls to control.
At this point, all of these were still guesses. Kyran had no proof, but he felt it was the closest to the truth. Nevertheless, Kyran was not interested in knowing if his guess was correct. At that moment, a boiling feeling had been brewing deep in his guts. He could not fathom how the previous Soul Emperor could stomach sacrificing innocent lives to get what she wanted.
If what Kyran guessed about why the previous Soul Emperor had done what she did in preparation for the war Light mentioned, then what motivated her? Did she want to win it? Why? What could she gain from winning that war? Did she really think that sacrificing innocent lives and using their souls for that war was acceptable?
Though Kyran no longer bats an eye when killing someone, he only kills those who cross his bottom line. He would never kill others for such a twisted reason.
Kyran now knew why he could never understand Haylee. She was one of the two types of people he hated dealing with. Like Ingrid, Haylee was an observant person with a twisted sense of justice.
Haylee’s observant trait Kyran proved after she discerned ‘Disciple Tyr’s’ combat style was similar to the Regis during the solo competition. As for her twisted sense of justice, she believed everything she did was for a noble cause.
In any case, Kyran realized that he could never see eye to eye with her or every Sovereign, including Light, who was part of a faction with Deception. Because he now realized the most likely reason the latter was hung up on the Solum Tribe. It was not because of their Earth affinity that boosted their potion and pill concoctions, which Kyran initially believed. It was their ability to create things from clay and gigantify them. Their creation could move and do things golems or molded magic could not do. Such creation was definitely a game-changer if used in war.
For all of these reasons, Kyran had finally made his choice.
“Sorry, but no.”
BOOM!
An explosion erupted with Kyran at the center when his domain was completely released. The shockwave that followed sent the unsuspecting Osric and Light stumbling backward.
“Ngh-!”
“You-!”
RAWRGH!
A bluish-green sea serpent emerged from the explosion and circled Kyran protectively.
Tritus, with his golden armor, appeared behind Kyran and said, “Master, I have come as you said.”
After Kyran realized what Light intended to do, he sent a telepathic message to Tritus, who had been hiding underneath. The moment Kyran released his domain, Tritus summoned his trident’s soul, forcing Light and Osric back.”Focus on Osric, and absorb every magic knowledge he had. It may enlighten you and help you advance.”
“Yes, master. I will give it my all.”
“Go,” Kyran waved his hand, and a light purple disc appeared beneath Tritus.
A purple light bloomed from the disc, covering Tritus’s body before he vanished in thin air.
At the same time, a purple disc also appeared above Osric, and the purple light it emitted shone down on him. Before he could react, he disappeared.
Kyran transported the two away so Tritus could focus on his fight with Osric.
It was also to prevent Osric and Light from working together now that Kyran likely pissed the latter, and the former would definitely use that opportunity to gain the latter’s trust.
RAWRGH!
The bluish-green sea serpent roared as it glided upward before diving back to the ground with a loud splash.
The same moment the sea serpent seeped into the ground, a blinding light erupted from the location where Light was forced back.
“Don’t think I will not dare offend you just because the faction hopes to work with you!” Light growled.
A human-shaped blinding light dashed toward Kyran. Its hand holding a golden staff was outstretched, and the miniature sun-like orb at the staff’s tip was pointed at him.
Light runes materialized on the miniature sun-like orb and shot at Kyran. As soon as a rune emerged from the orb, it increased in size and emitted a blinding orange-gold light. They circled each other while flying toward Kyran.
Kyran raised his hand. If this had been any other time, he would have already summoned purple orbs or Void weapons to counter the incoming Light runes. However, it was such a rare opportunity to fight a mage with Light innate magic. He was curious if absorbing Light’s magic attack would help him gain more Light magic knowledge and improve the Light magic energy circling inside his third magic core.
A dark purple vortex formed above Kyran’s palm. Its size increased to five by five inches before he aimed it at the incoming Light runes.
FOOOSH!
The moment Kyran faced the dark purple vortex forward, a powerful suction force erupted from within, pulling the Light runes at an alarming speed.
Light was stunned for a moment. Sensing something was amiss with the dark purple vortex, it waved its hand and controlled the Light runes to veer to the sides.
However, the Light runes did not even budge from Light’s attempt and were sucked into the dark purple vortex in a blink of an eye.
Kyran sensed the Light runes enter his third magic core. They immediately attracted the Light magic energies circling within, and he felt his Light magic affinity increase. Besides that, knowledge about Light runes and their nature seeped into his mind.
‘It really works,’ Kyran thought enthusiastically.
He was already knowledgeable in different runes from his training in the Tower of Tribulations– Light runes were no exception. But recognizing and understanding them were two different things.
If a mage used magic arrays, Kyran would be able to recognize what that mage’s innate magic was by reading the rune writings on the magic array. As for what kind of effect the magic array would do, Kyran would only have a rough idea because his understanding of other runes– apart from Void magic– was only at a superficial level.
But now that Kyran absorbed more Light magic energies– not to mention he absorbed them in their rune form– his in-depth understanding of Light magic increased.
Earlier, he did not know what the Light runes would do if they hit him. Now, he knew that those Light runes had the ability to pass through his body. After passing through his body, they would then emit a blinding light that would seep into the part of his body it passed through before exploding. What was even more frightening about these runes was that, although they increased in size, making it easier for one to evade them, one could not do so completely. They had a homing-like effect wherein they would not stop coming after their target.
Kyran would have been severely wounded right from the start if he had countered it with his Void spheres or weapons because the Light runes could avoid them.
“Tsk,” Light could not help but click its tongue after seeing what happened to the Light runes. It summoned more Light runes from the miniature sun-like orb and flew into the sky. The Light runes circled Light before turning into a pillar of light that rushed downward at Kyran’s location.
Kyran looked up and raised his right hand where the dark purple vortex formed. It expanded in size, and another suction force erupted from within, instantly pulling the pillars of light inside.
“Humph,” Light snorted and waved its staff. A miniature sun slowly formed behind it, hovering in the sky. The air around Light crackled as the miniature sun expanded. Soon, its size reached ten meters in diameter.
“Since you want to take them so much, then I will let you take more!” Light shouted and willed the miniature sun to fall at Kyran when its size doubled.
