Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 198: Learning Magic Sense (2)

Chapter 198: Learning Magic Sense (2)

For the first time after her mother’s death, Cyneah had enjoyed eating breakfast with others. Even the presence of the man who scared her earlier did not bother her. If she had to be honest, she found his awkward apology and his attempt to speak nicely cute.

The atmosphere in the dining room was full of warmth. It was impossible for others to know that just a few minutes ago, a very serious discussion had been held there.

After breakfast, Kyran excused himself and went to Anette’s lab in the attic. He also asked for a few bottles of blood replenishing potion, to which Anette figured what he planned to do. She initially wanted to scold him, but because the others were there and she did not want to appear unreasonable in front of her new disciple, she could only grit her teeth and give in.

Silas and Gage left after breakfast. They decided to get a headstart on what Kyran and Nolan asked them to do.

On the other hand, Nolan went to the front yard and created a five-meter radius array called Energy Circulation Array. The array’s purpose was to attract the surrounding energies and circulate them within.

Anette asked Nolan to create the array because she planned to teach Cyneah magic sense, using it.

By the time the array was completed and had started gathering the surrounding energies, Kyran had also completed creating one transmission scroll. He immediately left the attic and went outside to listen in on Anette’s lesson.

Zephyr, sitting cross-legged on the rail of the newly added porch, looked at Kyran as he stepped outside. He frowned slightly upon seeing his master’s pale complexion. He jumped down from the rail and walked over to him.

“Master, why do you look pale again?”

As soon as Zephyr spoke, Anette and Nolan immediately turned to look at Kyran.

Cyneah, who was sitting on the bench facing the front yard, also reacted and followed the sound of Zephyr’s voice.

“I’m fine,” Kyran told Zephyr and looked at the array Nolan had created.

Once again, Kyran bore witness to Nolan’s magic level. If a normal Array Specialist tried creating an array inside an active one, he would have felt the pressure of the high-tier array, and it would probably take him hours, even a day, to finish a simple array. But Nolan had done it without even dropping a sweat.

“The hell you are,” Nolan scowled as well when he saw Kyran’s complexion. What the hell was this kid doing that he always ended up either looking ghastly or in a weakened state?

“What did you do this time? Did you go somewhere and overexhaust yourself again?” Nolan asked.

Anette sighed. As much as she wanted to scold Kyran’s stubbornness, she knew what he did and why he had to do it. Since he agreed to replace the scrolls he took from Nolan, he would do it. Anette glanced at Nolan and could not help but shake her head.

Nolan noticing her action, raised an eyebrow at her, “What?”

“It’s nice to be ignorant.”

“The f*ck?”

Anette’s eyes narrowed at him, “Don’t use that language on me.”

Nolan simply cleared his throat in reply.

“I did not go anywhere. It’s not like you won’t notice if I leave anyway,” Kyran replied to Nolan’s question with a shrug.

“Then what did you do? Why did you not ask for my help?” Zephyr also asked.

“It’s just my core, okay,” Kyran lied. “It’s hurting like hell. Now can we move on?”

He appreciated their concern, but they were acting too excessive.

Hearing Kyran’s words made Cyneah clench her fist. He had asked her to heal his core, and while she took his words seriously and planned to heal him soon, she did not realize how bad his condition was.

Recalling how Nolan and Zephyr spoke of Kyran’s condition as if it had happened before further fueled Cyneah’s determination to heal him. She turned her attention at the light she recognized as her master, and she said, “Master, I’m ready to learn.”

Anette smiled. She could feel Cyneah’s determination from how her eyes glowed.

“Alright, let’s start.”

Kyran looked at Cyneah and was about to walk over to help her go inside the array. However, she stood by herself and walked resolutely toward Anette.

‘Right, its not like she always need others to help her move about,’ Kyran thought, recalling how she refused his help back at the pool inside the cave.

An image of Cyneah trying to cover her chest before going into the water popped into Kyran’s head. However, the image overlapped with the recent naked image after she had recovered and finally appeared ‘older.’

Kyran immediately stopped and mentally kicked himself.

Just what was he remembering? When did his mind learn to play tricks on him? It seemed he had neglected mental training lately. With all that had happened, he admitted not being able to do daily training like he used to. He had to start again.

‘Negligence in training is really dangerous. I need to start again,’ Kyran repeated in his mind like a chant before turning his attention to Anette.

Anette led Cyneah to the center of the array. She asked her to sit before starting her explanation.

“Magic sense is a basic ability that all mage have. Which is why, activating magic sense was as simple as breathing. However, not everyone can master the control of magic sense. The reason behind it lies in how a mage understands his magic.”

Kyran leaned on the rail as he listened to Anette’s explanation. Zephyr also went back to sitting cross-legged on the rail and watched them in silence.

In order not to disrupt the lesson, Nolan also left the array and walked over to Kyran.

As Nolan leaned on the rail beside Kyran, Kyran suddenly said, “This reminds me, you haven’t taught me much about magic.”

Nolan raised an eyebrow and looked at him sideways, “What are you talking about? I taught you how to control your magic. Besides, didn’t you get yourself a master? Why did you not ask him to teach you?”

“If you’re talking about Master Noir, he is ‘Tyr’s’ master. Besides, he only taught me arrays. Not magic,” Kyran replied without looking at Nolan.

Nolan replied with a snort.

“Now let me ask you, how much do you understand your magic?” Anette asked Cyneah.

Cyneah pondered for a moment and slightly shook her head, “I don’t know much. I only know that everytime I sing the song my mother taught me, there is something around me that stirs.”

Anette nodded her head, “That something that stirs around you is the surrounding energies that responds to your magic.”

“Energies in the surrounding that responds to my magic? But how will I know what my magic is?” Cyneah asked.

Anette smiled faintly before replying, “You just know. It is similar to how you know that you are alive.”

Cyneah did not understand what Anette was telling her.

Seeing Cyneah’s confusion, Anette further explained, “Close your eyes and try to sense the beating of your heart.”

Cyneah did what she was told.

“Do you feel how your heart controls the flow of blood in your body?” Anette asked.

Cyneah smiled bitterly and shook her head. She opened her eyes and replied, “I don’t feel it. But I do know what you mean.”

“That is your answer! You may not feel how exactly, but you know it.”

Cyneah’s expression lit up. She still had not fully understood what Anette had said, but she was getting there.

“Close your eyes again, and try to sing while focusing on familiarizing yourself with the feeling of that ‘something that stirs’ around you,” Anette told her.

“Okay,” Cyneah replied and closed her eyes once more. She paused for a few seconds and took a deep breath before finally opening her mouth to sing.

When Cyneah started singing, Kyran recognized the song as the ‘Lament of the Souls.’

Soon the energies inside the Energy Circulation Array stirred.

Kyran’s eyes widened as he saw the energies visibly move within the array.

“How?”

Nolan sneered after seeing the surprised look on Kyran’s face, “What, is it your first time to see how the energies move?”

Kyran only nodded.

The surrounding energies had always been invisible. Only a few had the innate ability to see them.

The image Kyran could see right now was different from how mages flaunt their magic aura or exert their magic pressure. The aura and pressure one possessed originated from within their bodies and only affected the surrounding energies.

Anette nodded in appreciation after seeing white-colored energy slowly enter Cyneah’s body.

The more Cyneah sang, the more these white-colored energies danced around her, going in and out of her.

Soon, the song had started to affect them as they listened.

Anette, Nolan, and Zephyr were not injured, so they only felt more relaxed and invigorated. To Kyran, however, it started to soothe his internal injuries. Even the fatigue and loss of blood he felt after creating the transmission scroll started to alleviate. A visible change in his complexion became apparent.

Cyneah’s eyes snapped open. She stopped singing as she realized something and said, “Soul… my magic stirs my soul.”
