Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 1232 Retribution

Marigold, the remaining members of the Crepuscule Clan, and the other survivors observed the devastation of the Crepuscule Auction House from their respective ships. Even now, they were filled with disbelief. Less than a day ago, they were on that plane, with some taking part in the open auction. Now, it lay in ruins, and most of them were unaware of what had transpired.

The Crepuscule Auction House was no ordinary plane, with it being half artificial and half natural plane. Though most were unaware of the details, knowing the Crepuscule Clan’s specialty and wide range of treasure, they would definitely have made sure their plane would stay intact even if powerful mages came picking up a fight. Most clans were also convinced they had enough defensive counters against The Emperor.

For this reason, the scene before them was indeed a sight they never expected to witness.

Furthermore, the one who came and destroyed it was The Emperor and an unknown ‘mage.’

Though referred to as an unknown, there was already much speculation among the survivors about the ‘mage’s’ identity. It was not hard to guess since The Emperor declared during the Blade Dancer Clan’s fall of the Void Master’s appearance. They might not know what the latter looked like, but given the appearance of the silhouette The Emperor was fighting, it was easy to mistake it for the Void Master with its ‘void’ description.

While they could guess The Emperor and the unknown mage’s identity, the puzzling part was that Estrid, the leader of the Crepuscule Clan, did not appear. Some reasoned that she might be away, but those who attended the open auction confirmed her presence on the plane. But if that was the case, why did she not do anything?

The survivors had good reasons to be skeptical, as they were unaware of the events unfolding in the inner city. They only became aware of the conflict when the Crepuscule Clan announced an evacuation. Many also believed that the evacuation order arrived too late because, shortly after it was issued, overwhelming pressure from a powerful mage suddenly enveloped the entire plane, obstructing their escape. Finally, it took some time for them to understand that the pressure originated from The Emperor.

The evacuation proceeded slowly, but luckily, everyone was able to evacuate and move to a safe distance to avoid the aftershocks resulting from The Emperor’s magic attack collisions against his enemy.

“We should leave,” the elder fox told Marigold, who still had her eyes glued to the screen. Sёarch* The Nôvel(F)ire.nёt website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Without looking at the elder, Marigold nodded and said, “Yes. As planned, we’ll go there.”

In response, the elder fox lowered his head slightly and said, “I shall relay it to the rest.”

Marigold’s eyes glinted as she continued to watch the burning Crepuscule Auction House. She could still sense an intense battle happening there, and while she felt guilty about leaving Cyneah and her people behind, there was nothing they could do, even if they stayed. They would just end up becoming unnecessary casualties.

‘I pray thee well, Milady…’ she thought and closed her eyes.

All ships belonging to the Crepuscule Clan left one after another. Seeing this, the rest of the survivors followed their lead and left. Though some were curious about the result of The Emperor’s battle, they were not foolish to wait there and watch. There were far more important things they had to do than risk their lives to know how The Emperor would win.

Alas, most of the survivors never doubted that The Emperor would emerge victorious. Because of this, they would instead report it back to their clans and prepare for the inevitable. After all, if the unknown mage were indeed the Void Master and The Emperor won, it would only mean that the latter succeeded in extracting the Void Core. The Emperor’s strength would grow by leaps and bounds when that happened. He might even ascend to the next level.

While Marigold and the others left, the burning Crepuscule Auction House’s situation was not what they initially expected.

The Emperor was there, true, even the massive dark silhouette that Kyran summoned. However, there was an obvious difference between the appearance of the two.

The Emperor’s light grew more intense as the dark silhouette lost its enormous hand. Additionally, cracks were apparent across its body.

Observing this scene, it seems as though The Emperor successfully struck Kyran. Yet, the charged atmosphere lingered and was overshadowed by another presence.

“YOU… WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY HOUSE!”

Though gentle, the voice that reverberated in the surroundings was so full of anger and murderous intent that the air crackled, and the magic energy fluctuated as if in fear.

Beneath the dark silhouette, a slight distortion could be seen, and at the moment, it was vomiting what looked like blood.

‘D-Damn it…’

It was none other than Kyran, and he appeared to have suffered fatal injuries. Such a result was to be expected. After all, his Void World had just suffered a breach as Estrid managed to force her way out of it.

That was what caused the explosion that Marigold and the others just witnessed. Furthermore, the voice that bellowed in rage just now was none other than Estrid.

Kyran did not know how Estrid escaped his Void World. But then again, the latter was an Overlord, and Kyran had never really understood how the Void World worked. He considered that world a passive skill, which he could open anywhere. Although there were some cases when he could not open or connect with it, that world also allowed him to meet up with his Servants and Sigils as long as they were within its range.

However, finding out how Estrid escaped the Void World was not the priority because Kyran’s situation escalated even more. Forget about dealing with Lucian. Now, Kyran also had to watch out for Estrid.

“ESTRID. DO NOT INTERFERE.”

Lucian’s voice echoed throughout the burning plane. He was looking at a white figure that suddenly appeared and was hovering amidst the flames.

The white figure was Estrid, and she was in her complete tailed-fox form.

Compared with Lucian and Kyran’s summon, Estrid’s body was small. However, the countless tails dancing behind her compensated for that, making her appear bigger than normal.

Estrid turned toward The Emperor. Her eyes, which had turned completely gold, appeared menacing and full of murderous intent as she glared at him.

“WE HAVE AN AGREEMENT! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?” She growled at The Emperor, her face distorting in anger.

Lucian scowled at Estrid. Not because of her behavior but because she was

looking

at him.

That should not have been possible. Even if he was not in his best state, he was still in his true form. No one should be able to look at him straight without having their eyes burned out.

“IT SEEMS YOU HAVE GROWN YOUR STRENGTH YET AGAIN.”

“DO NOT CHANGE THE SUBJECT! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE—?”

WHOOSH!

SHATTER!

“GAAH!”

A flash of light flew toward Estrid, destroying her defensive barrier and piercing her stomach. She staggered slightly but managed to stay in midair.

“SUCH INSOLENCE!” Lucian bellowed at Estrid. “I AM THE EMPEROR! YOU DARE QUESTION ME?”

Estrid coughed out some blood as she glared at The Emperor. However, the temper she had shown a moment ago had lessened.

Kyran, who was silently watching the two, wracked his brains on what he should do. Fortunately, he managed to protect and hide Cyneah, Alta, and the Macabre Glacier during the explosion. He did not know if Lucian or Estrid noticed it, but seeing them busy talking with each other probably meant they did not notice anything. But even if he hid them, they would all be doomed if he could not escape.

“YOU HAVE GONE AGAINST OUR AGREEMENT! YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED IN MY TERRITORY WITHOUT PERMISSION!”

Estrid shouted. She still sounded pissed, but her voice mellowed somewhat.

But.

“!”

WHOOOSH!

Light magic blades rained down on Estrid with a swift wave of Lucian’s hand.

Estrid’s tails whirled in the air, forming a beautiful white flower, shielding her from the rain.

“UGH!”

Unfortunately, with the piercing nature of Lucian’s magic, most of the light blades struck Estrid’s defenses.

“YOU—! NGH—!” Experience tales at empire

White gold magic arrays appeared around Estrid, and white furry tails emerged from within. Some circled Estrid’s defenses while some extended and flew toward The Emperor.

Lucian simply waved his hand, and white pillars of light blocked the incoming tails. After that, he summoned more blades and relentlessly attacked Estrid, who trapped herself inside her tails.

Was this his chance? Kyran wondered as he let his summoned silhouette crumble from Lucian’s light blades.

To be honest, Kyran could not think of a way to escape. He could not teleport or warp while in what seemed to be an invisible state. Moreover, Cyneah, Alta, and the Macabre Glacier were still there, only hidden from Lucian and Estrid’s sight. While he thought of escaping first and coming back later, he did not know if their hidden state would remain if he left.

“DON’T WORRY, I HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN ABOUT YOU.”

Lucian’s words snapped Kyran out of his thoughts.

“THIS IS RETRIBUTION.”

Kyran’s surroundings were suddenly engulfed in a blinding light.
