Chapter 1120: A New Force (2)
After staying with the Blade Dancer Clan for a few days, Kyran discovered why there was such a clear gap between the executives’, house leaders’, and elders’ perceptions of their clan’s current situation.
All of them had different knowledge and understanding of what truly happened.
Kyran also confirmed this after talking with Shiloh and Uilleam, and Alta shared her thoughts from time to time.
To fix that gap of knowledge among the members of the Blade Dancer Clan, Kyran only needed to tell them the truth of what happened.
While Kyran could have been the one to bridge the knowledge gap among the Blade Dancer Clan members, he knew that Geir was the best person for the job. As the Head of the Clan, Geir’s authority and trustworthiness were unquestionable, especially since Kyran had not marked him.
Zigor might have started to doubt Geir’s loyalty, but since he was a sensible elder— at least, that was how Kyran perceived Zigor— he would not dismiss Geir’s words without understanding his reasons.
Besides, as long as Zigor heard what truly happened, Kyran believed he would understand and might even sympathize with Geir’s decision to choose Kyran’s side and show him respect rather than plot against him.
Kyran sat back and let Geir explain.
Zigor and the rest of the elders initially listened with an indifferent expression. But as Geir got to the point when The Emperor took Alta’s soul thread as a punishment for her supposed incompetence, their seemingly unflinching demeanor faltered. It then started to crumble when Geir told them why The Emperor wanted to wake Shiloh and Uilleam.
While they understood that learning the real identity of the instigator of the tragedy at the Tower of the Ancients’ hunt was important to ensure that no one would belittle the clans under The Emperor by eliminating him or her, the elders were shocked to learn that rather than asking Shiloh or performing a spell that would allow one to share parts of their memory to another, The Emperor intended to take their soul threads as well.
If there was one thing that the Blade Dancer elders knew, it was how important it was to protect the next generation’s talents because that was the only way to ensure that their clan could continue to grow and prosper.
However, The Emperor actually intended to destroy the futures of not one but three of their talents. Moreover, Alta was expected to be one of the leaders of the next generation because her potential showed she was capable of breaking through the wall and becoming an Overlord.
After almost half an hour, Geir told them that the intruder was not working with Kyran and concluded his explanation by expressing his thoughts that the Emperor did not care whether they survived the ordeal or not. Proof of that was the Emperor’s lack of follow-through regarding what happened to the Blade Dancer Clan. Otherwise, they should have heard news of the Solis Clan looking for them by now.
Geir looked at Kyran as if to confirm if there was something he had missed. But Kyran only nodded his thanks before addressing Zigor and the elders again.
“This plane is still underdeveloped in terms of its internal magic law. This is why communicating outside is still currently impossible. However, detecting our presence from the outside is still possible. This plane, though close to the borders of the Blade Dancer Clan’s jurisdiction, can be found. But we have been here for more than five days now.
Yet no one from the other clans or even your fellow clan members who managed to survive on your plane discovered this place.”
Kyran looked at them meaningfully before adding, “I don’t need to elaborate on why this is the case, right?”
Zigor leaned back while closing his eyes. “Either they all believed we perished or that the Emperor did not care what happened to us.”
The elder on Zigor’s left side frowned and asked, “But that does not make any sense. Why would The Emperor want to annihilate us?”
Kyran looked at the elder with a slight frown, “Have you not been listening to Geir’s explanation?”
“It’s not like that,” the elder immediately replied. Unlike earlier, he sounded more respectful toward Kyran. “I understand that The Emperor was very strict when it came to results. Since he believed Alta’s mistake inadvertently resulted in the tragedy at the Tower of the Ancients, I could more or less understand why he wanted to punish her. Not only her but even young Shiloh and Uilleam.
“However, their mistakes were not enough for The Emperor to want to destroy our clan… No. I don’t think punishing them by removing their soul threads was reasonable, either. But…”
The elder stopped, seemingly unable to put his doubts into words properly.
Realization dawned on Kyran as he soon realized that few knew what it meant for someone’s soul thread to be devoured. Then again, it was not like anyone could do it anytime or that anyone other than Lucian would dare do it against another mage.
A soul thread could be considered as a mage’s lifeline. With just one thread removed, they would be crippled for life.
Looking at the confusion on most of the elders’ faces, it seemed they did not know that other than looking into another’s memory through soul thread there was another use for it.
“Do you understand what it means to devour another’s soul thread?” Kyran asked after a short pause.
“It allows one to see a specific memory of that being.”
“Yes, but memory is not the only one revealed by the soul thread,” Kyran paused and narrowed his eyes before adding, “One’s thoughts at that time will also become available to the one devouring the soul.”
“One’s thoughts…”
“!”
Muffled gasps filled the room as the unsaid implication now made sense to them.
“You mean Alta at that time…”
“You guys planned on rebelling against The Emperor, right? The memory that The Emperor took likely revealed Alta’s thoughts on that as well. That’s why he decided to destroy your clan when an opportunity presented itself.”
Geir nodded, agreeing to Kyran’s words.
“It is my first time hearing about thoughts being revealed to the soul thread as well, but when The Emperor took Alta’s soul thread, there was a slight change in his demeanor. I won’t claim to be an expert in interpreting The Emperor’s mood, but after that, the things he wanted the clan to accomplish had a huge probability of failing, ending up with us sacrificing a lot of our members…
even talents.”
Zigor and the rest of the elders were rendered speechless.
They did have thoughts of rebelling against The Emperor but to be honest, they did not plan on fighting him to the death. When they said they wanted to rebel, rather than completely becoming independent, they only wanted to ensure their clan could rise to its former glory by competing against the other clans under The Emperor in terms of resources.
For lack of a term, they only dubbed their move a rebellion. Besides, their desire to compete with other clans and stand on their own did seem like rebelling against The Emperor’s will.
At the end of the day, the Blade Dancer Clan only wanted to grow stronger by having their own resources without The Emperor trying to horde them for the Solis Clan.
“If that’s the case, then… if there are any surviving clan members in the Blade Dancer plane, The Emperor will likely kill them all.”
“You don’t have to worry about them,” Kyran assured Zigor and the elders. “I already sent someone to round them up and get them here using a safe route.”
Zigor and the elders looked at Kyran in surprise.
“Why… would you go to such lengths to save us?” Zigor could not help but ask. Enjoy more content from M-V-L
Judging from the change in his tone, which now sounded grateful, he and the rest of the elders already had a change of heart.
“Don’t get me wrong, I only did that because I still have a need for you.”
Kyran sounded domineering when he said that, but apparently, to everyone inside the room, his words sounded like a warm ray of light that gave their clan’s existence a new purpose and hope.
“Tell us what to do, and we will do everything in our power to deliver nothing but the best results.”
Geir was shocked to hear Zigor respectfully ask Kyran to command them. He also promised to deliver the best results no matter what.
“I won’t ask anything unreasonable,” Kyran assured them. “But I want to set proper expectations on what I am aiming for when I decide to approach your clan.”
“We are listening.”
“I will not make grand declarations like aiming to kill The Emperor. Instead, my aim is to overthrow his authority.”
Everyone looked at him in surprise.
“O-Overthrow his authority?”
Their minds reeled at Kyran’s words. Thus far, there was no one in the Higher Realm who could shake The Emperor’s authority. How would he accomplish that?
No.
Wait.
There was one who had the potential to shake The Emperor’s authority.
The Dragon Emperor.
Zigor frowned slightly, “It is almost impossible to threaten The Emperor’s authority. If you truly aimed for that, then you will need that clan’s assistance.”
“I know who you have in mind, but I really don’t want to get them involved if possible.”
“But—.”
“I want to establish a new force. After that, then we can think about asking for that clan’s support.”
Zigor and the rest of the elders looked at Kyran in disbelief.
“E-Establish a new force? T-That’s…” even Geir was dumbfounded.
“You don’t have to concern yourself on the process. Just focus on stabilizing the Blade Dancer clan, building a proper stronghold in this plane, and strengthening yourselves,” Kyran told them with a smile. “I’ll handle the rest.”
