Chapter 354 Divine Guardians
POV Priest Amogus:
A massive temple stood on top of a tall hill.
Waterfalls of crystal clear water rumbled down the steep rocky slopes, and the mist of tiny droplets refracted the sunlight and formed beautiful rainbows.
The old priest in his blue robes with golden embroidery of wave-like patterns stood on top of the peak, watching the water flow, seeking divine revelation from her holiness, the goddess of water.
‘Demons, dragons, it is as if all the ancient evils decided to rise at once from the darkness where they were hiding. Ooo, please, your divinity, give me your revelation!’
As if responding to his prayer, dark clouds obscured the entire sun, blocking off the light.
Heavy rain started falling, the temperature dropping so quickly that the rain droplets turned to ice upon landing, covering everything in the shiny, slippery ice.𝑜𝗏xt.𝗇t
‘Have the goddess heard out my prayers?!’, The priest’s eyes were wide from the excitement, his old, wrinkled hands trembling as he witnessed the power of his goddess.
“Mortal!” Two golden eyes lit up within the claws, the huge armoured head looking down at him, lightning and fire glowing within the haze, drawing a silhouette of the massive dragon. Its long, shiny claws glowed, looking like they could crush the entire temple into dust.
The priest’s excitement fizzled out, turning into horror. The fate of the Church of Light is still vivid in his memory.
‘Shhh… The taxes, they were just a prelude! The dragon wants to get rid of us!’
“I, the great dragon Vesuvius, the king of this land, officially order you to go and fulfil your holy duty and fight the demons. My kingdom will give you all the support you need!”
A sly smile formed on the priest’s face as he was now sure he was on top, ‘Hahaha, now you need us? Without us, the demons will devour the world! You need our help and have come to beg us for help.’
Of course, he kept his thoughts to himself, saying, “We have already started, your majesty, our believers will be mobilized for the war to push back the demons…” ‘…and eventually even you…’
“Good, the armouries of the old kingdom are still full. Take the weapons you need and go fulfil your duty!”
POV Vesuvius:
One Month Later:
Thousands of steps echoed through the land.
Collums and squares of soldiers fully decked in gambesons and chainmail marched down the single, wide bridge, below them nothing but a dark abyss waiting to devour any poor soul that would fall down.
Their weapons and armour clanged and shone in the sunlight, rising from behind the horizon behind their backs. The first rays of day dispersed the last shadows of the night.
From the top of faraway mountains, the dragon silently observed them, his body hidden under the layers of clouds, steam, and snow.
‘Poor souls, none of them will return.’ Even Vesuvius was amazed by the aggressive demons and their destructive expansions.
The human armies could only slow them down, while the champion NPCs and players did most of the real damage.
‘They are nothing but cannon fodder, yet they are so zealous.’ He envied the gods and clergy, desiring the same level of zealotry from the citizens of his kingdom even without him using his blood.
‘Why are humans so willing to die for some invisible, mighty beings? We dragons are also mighty, yet they do not worship us. Instead, they fear us.’ The more he observed humans, the more incomprehensible they became.
Their morals, which could twist in the blink of an eye, their personalities, and their beliefs and loyalties. They were all chaotic and always shifting. They were unpredictable.
‘One can always know what to expect from angels, demons, reapers, and dragons, but not from humans.’
The dragon flapped his wings and rose into the sky, leaving the army to its own demise, ‘It should be time.’
POV ???:
An old, white-haired man stood on top of a small hill. His staff raised above his head brightly shone, magic circles spinning and rotating under his feet. His sateen blue robes waved in the wind.
The entire horizon was brightly burned in crimson-red flames. They lustrously blazed, the air distorting around them.
The ranks of soldiers stood tightly packed, their spears gleaming in the light of the fire, forming a wall of sharp blades.
“Ahhh!” The cries and yelps of pain constantly reverberated through the battlefield as the tall demons swung their fiery, red whips.
Each swing cut through the human soldiers, tearing and cutting through them, their burning bodies flying into the distance as if they were just ragdolls.
The bright, blue light kept gathering and brightening on the tip of the archmage’s staff, his eyes brightly shining.
He sneered at the lowly, barbaric soldiers, fighting to buy him time, ‘Dying is the only thing you are good at.’
The huge blue sun of mana was growing above his head, its blue rays pushing back the crimson light of the demon army.
A grin of a lunatic formed on his face, the euphoria of mana flowing through his veins pushing back all of his rationality, ‘Stupid demons! I will disintegrate you all!’
Suddenly a pain stabbed through his chest, his eyes bulging like a dagger sticking out of his chest, blood flowing out.
“Are you fools?! I am your only hope!”
His guards collapsed to the ground one by one as silhouettes in black and leather manifested from the shadows.
Before the mage could even blink, more daggers gleamed before they stabbed him through his neck, heart, and spine.
POV Assassin:
The mage’s bloodied body collapsed, his eyes losing all the light. The spinning blue sun of mana was pulsing and warping as it destabilized without a mage to control it.
“Another one down!”
He looked at his fellow assassins, knowing they had succeeded again.
‘Our chances are improving with each powerful mage and warrior we kill.’
They weren’t fools and knew the war was inevitable, so they decided to strike down, using the demon army to devastate and weaken their enemies while they still could.
‘A war of worlds is inevitable. The idealistic fools who believe we could coexist peacefully are idiots.’
POV Vesuvius:
The egg of elemental energy exploded, shooting the shell fragments woven of fire, lightning, and ice in all directions. The black smoke poured out and rolled through the air, obscuring the dragon’s sight.
‘What are you? With interest, the dragon observed the entire event, his eyes locked into it as he refused to miss even a single bit of the valuable information.
“Creator… I. Your. Servant. Was. Reborn!” The voice boomed across the magma lake, sending waves and ripples crashing across it.
It spoke slowly, pausing between each word, but all carried ominous power and a slight spark of intelligence.
“Good, my servant! I gave you a power, a power far beyond your lowly origins. I have uplifted you from the bottom of the hierarchy. Now, you have the power to serve!”
The smoke parted, and the large beast, easily big enough to crush an entire house with its claw, was revealed.
Its sharply shaped, close-fitting armor of black metal gilded with gold covered its entire body. Rivers of blue magma flowed within it like rivers through the delta of a large river.
The glowing runes were sewn all over it, like stars over the canvas of the night sky.
Its elongated horns of crystal extended from its head, two long ones from the top and one shorter from its snout. Its enormous shimmering wings, which contained millions of miniature crystals reflecting light, were folded on its back.
Crystals and ice glittered all over its body, forming a mask to protect its head, spine, and joints, joined by its beautiful, diamond-like claws and back spikes.
