Landlord in the Arctic
Chapter 733 - 463: Slipping Away
Chapter 733: Chapter 463: Slipping Away
The two had just been selecting live vegetable plants from Giant Vegetable Valley.
Initially, out of her trust for Feng Shan, Jenny had planned to unconditionally support whatever he chose.
After all, Feng Shan’s intentions were always for the good of the camp.
Besides, the price per plant on the quote was only a few US Dollars, which seemed acceptable.
But when she saw the total amount Tessa had calculated, Jenny was genuinely shocked, and her resolve wavered.
It was true that she had once been the head chef at a Michelin-starred restaurant.
She had handled plenty of high-end ingredients, like Alba white truffles from Italy, Brittany white asparagus from France, Charapita chili peppers from Peru, and La Bonnotte potatoes from France.
These top-tier ingredients were the epitome of quality and rarity, so their exorbitant prices were understandable.
But Giant Vegetable Valley wasn’t offering prepared dishes or some rare, designation-of-origin vegetables.
’How could they be selling live vegetable plants for so much, when their only special quality was being enormous?’
The more Jenny thought about it, the more she felt that Tessa had been right to object earlier.
’Even if Feng Shan is rich, we can’t waste money like this.’
So, she couldn’t help but continue trying to persuade him in a low voice. "My dear, do we really need to buy such expensive vegetables? We could consider regular vegetables, or even just buy seeds. That would save us a lot of money."
"No! We’re buying these. Jenny, you have to trust me. I am absolutely confident I can grow the world’s biggest and most delicious giant vegetables. When that happens, the name Giant Vegetable Valley will belong exclusively to the Crown Territory."
Feng Shan stood up, his face full of confidence, and handed the purchase order to Tessa.
"Go handle this immediately. I want to see these vegetables and fruits delivered to the Crown Territory as soon as possible. Time is of the essence; the planting plan needs to get underway."
"I’ll head out now."
Tessa knew it was useless to argue further and sighed to herself.
’All I can do is rely on my own skills to negotiate with the supplier and try to bring the price down as much as possible.’
After giving Tessa her instructions, Feng Shan seemed to remember something and turned his gaze toward Gordon.
"If you can, buy another batch of seeds—the more, the better. It never hurts to have a backup plan."
"Yes, Boss!" Gordon nodded slightly, indicating he understood.
Tessa then led Gordon out of the office. They were heading to the runway to take a plane to Giant Vegetable Valley.
After he saw the two of them off, Feng Shan slumped onto the bench as if all his strength had been drained away, his face etched with exhaustion. He reached out, gently pulling Jenny into his arms, and couldn’t help but start to vent.
’Before, if I had an idea, I could make a decision with a single word.’
’Now that Tessa’s here, it’s like I’m wearing a collar.’
’I feel like my hands are tied with everything I do.’
Jenny nestled quietly beside Feng Shan, silently listening as the man she loved poured out his heart.
’When it came to managing the camp, I really couldn’t be of much help, however much I wanted to be.’
’All I can do right now is look at him with a gentle gaze, offering quiet comfort and encouragement.’
"My dear, Tessa only has the camp’s best interests at heart. She’s just very thorough. Besides, I believe in you. No matter what, I know you’ll make the camp better and better."
Just as the two were enjoying their quiet moment together, the wooden door was suddenly thrown open.
Fiona burst in, panting for breath. Her face was flushed, her bangs were damp with sweat, and she pointed back toward the door as she yelled.
"Auntie Jenny, Xiong Da and Xiong Er are back! They’re covered in mud, and they’re crying their eyes out!"
’Xiong Da and Xiong Er are back!’
Jenny’s heart skipped a beat.
’Whenever the two cubs came back to camp, the Prince, the Princess, and the Wolf Pack were always with them.’
’But today, it was eerily quiet. I haven’t heard any howling from the Wolf Pack.’
She asked immediately.
"Fiona, did you see the Prince and the Princess? Was the Wolf Pack with them?"
"Just Xiong Da and Xiong Er, and they’re covered in mud." Fiona quickly shook her head.
’They weren’t with them?’
’The two cubs had returned to camp alone.’
A terrible premonition instantly washed over Jenny.
She quickly pulled away from Feng Shan’s embrace and instinctively headed for the door.
She stopped abruptly at the doorway as if remembering something. She spun back around to face Feng Shan, her expression fraught with worry and her voice trembling.
"My dear, could the Prince and Princess be in danger?"
Feng Shan’s heart lurched. An unnatural expression flickered across his face, and he subconsciously rubbed his nose.
He stood up reluctantly, deliberately pretending to be engrossed in tidying up some documents to hide his inner panic.
As he fumbled with the papers, he mumbled evasively.
"I doubt it. Maybe Xiong Da and Xiong Er just snuck back by themselves. Nothing could have happened. Why don’t you go check on them and calm them down? I’ll just put these papers away and be right over."
He didn’t dare to meet Jenny’s eyes as he spoke, afraid that a single glance would reveal that something was amiss.
"Okay!"
Jenny was filled with worry.
She was so worried she didn’t notice anything strange about Feng Shan’s behavior at all.
Her heart burning with anxiety, she rushed out of the office.
Watching Jenny’s figure disappear completely through the doorway, Feng Shan’s taut nerves finally relaxed a little, and he let out a long sigh of relief.
Noticing that Fiona, surprisingly, still hadn’t left, he couldn’t help but ask irritably.
"Why aren’t you in class? I’m going to have to tell Yves you’re skipping. You’d better watch out, or your dad will spank you!"
Fiona made a face at him and said smugly.
"I’m not skipping! Today is botany. Teacher Lucy took us to the Mossy Tundra to identify plants. This is a normal class activity, so Yves won’t spank me."
As she spoke, Fiona suddenly leaned closer to Feng Shan. Her eyes twinkled slyly as a gloating smile spread across her face.
