After the destruction of the Palace in the Void Empire, Mary moved to another place.
Well, it was kind of a big mansion but… it seemed like it was already built as if she knew her palace was going to be destroyed or something. The walls still carried the faint scent of marble, and the chandeliers gleamed too perfectly for a home just acquired.
It felt prepared, waiting for something to happen to her palace, as though Mary herself had predicted the fall long before it happened.
Anyhow, with Nyx, Aether entered the mansion, and on the way, he saw the people shouting for answers about the sudden disappearance of Grace and what happened to the people who were kidnapped.
Looks like she was going through a lot of shit because of him!
Aether smiling with a pure wicked smile!
The people who once feared and revered her as a danger were now shouting back at her… all because of Grace and Grenthollow.
Once, her name alone was enough to silence crowds.
Now, their voices pierced through any loud noise that had ever been here!
Aether, with a wicked smile, looked at Nyx, who stood before a room.
She glanced at Aether, her eyes flickering with unease.
Aether nodded, “It’s fine… everything will be alright”
Nyx sighed inwardly before knocking on the door, but no words came… of course, that bitch knew he was here, so no way she was going to allow him.
He just pushed open the door!
Nyx flinched at his actions, “Aether… Empress will get angry.” Her voice trembled as she warned with fear.
“Tsk, fuck that.” Aether shrugged as he entered the room and saw Lia in Mary’s arms, hugging her tightly as if she was never going to leave her anytime soon.
Lying on the bed, both Mother and daughter, the room filled with fluffy stuff and toys… just like Lia’s previous room.
As soon as Mary’s eyes fell on Aether, she sneered, “What are you doing here? Get out!!” she growled, like a snake ready to strike.
Lia flinched as she turned back and saw… Aether.
She frowned, “Do you know him, Mom?”
Hearing that… only made Aether feel pain, and Nyx frowned in confusion.
To be forgotten by her… his Lia… was far worse than death.
Mary nodded furiously, “Of course I know him… of course it was all because of that wretched soul, I almost lost you! What do you want now? Can’t you leave us alone for a second? I need to bond with my daughter!!” Her voice cracked with both fury and desperation, her arms tightening around Lia as if she could shield her from him.
Aether frowned, ’Bond? What the fuck are you going to do?’ he thought with a dangerous expression. No one was going to touch his Lia… even if it was her mother.
He would fucking annihilate the bitch!!
Lia blinked in confusion… “But wasn’t he the one who saved me?”
Mary shrugged, “Saved you… it’s his responsibility for making things right,” she snorted at Aether, eyes narrowing with scorn.
Lia frowned as she stared at Aether… it seemed she had started to hate Aether slightly.
The confusion in her eyes was shifting into something colder, poisoned by Mary’s words.
Aether bit his lips. He didn’t come here for that… he knew it was impossible to get closer to Lia with Mary being there, and what’s more… Mary seemed so delighted to know her daughter forgot about him.
That twisted smile of triumph on her lips was enough to make him want to tear the walls apart.
Whoever did this… Aether was sure he was going to rip that bastard’s neck furiously.
Nyx stepped up and said, “My husband told me to inform you that… he would like to implement Project ’X.’” with a mix of indifference and carefullness.
Mary frowned, and Lia was surprised, “Her husband, too?” She looked at Aether, and her face turned disgusted,
“And you have the nerve to say I am your girlfriend? So disgusting… I hate men like you.”
“Pff—” Mary almost laughed, and Aether almost coughed blood.
Of course, what happened in the place where she was kidnapped, Lia told her mother every detail!
Aether bit his lips… Nyx frowned, ’What’s going on?’ she wondered, unable to understand what was happening here.
The actions didn’t add up.
Didn’t this woman love her husband?
If anything, she was supposed to feel disgusted!
Nyx shook her thoughts and looked at Mary, “Your Majesty?”
Mary sighed, her breath heavy with irritation, “What is this Project ’X’ you’re talking about? And if it’s him, I ain’t definitely not implementing whatever the shit he was going to do?!!”
Aether’s lips twitched before curling into a smirk. He was about to say something so vulgar, so cutting, that it would pierce her pride and piss her off, when—
Nyx stepped forward and announced, her voice clear and steady, “As the Sole Chosen One of this Empire, I believe I also have authority over the Empire and the well-being of its people.”
Mary blinked in surprise as she looked at Nyx… her face twisting into a shocked expression before her eyes slowly turned to Aether.

Aether’s lips twitched. This woman was still trying to charm him with her annoying ability.
Well, he was kind of grateful for Nyx for accepting his word. She had always been reluctant, resisting any move that could be seen as going against the Empress, but this was needed.
He didn’t have much time. If things got out of hand, he knew nothing would remain in this world.
He made sure that Nyx understood that, and with this… his new plan for the capturing—ahem, helping of the Void Empire was set in motion.
Seriously, his previous one was really good… he almost had the Empire in his hand. Every piece was lined, every pawn moved as planned, just to slip up everything at the final moment, like sand pouring through broken fingers.
Even though the sounds of people demanding answers for Grace echoed outside the mansion, those voices were not enough for him to make his move anymore.
He lost the game he initially had!
The bitter truth, he had accepted it!!
Mary blankly watched Nyx with indifferent eyes… Lia too blankly stared at them, her fists clenched, her lips tight,
“How dare you threaten my mother’s authority,” Lia muttered in an indifferent tone and cold.

Nyx blinked as the sound reverberated, her gaze stared outside… where she was standing at the entrance of the mansion.
She turned slowly to her husband, who… had just made her throw away her own Empire with a single choice.
“…” Aether too blinked, utterly shocked.
That bitch literally threw them out without hesitation… even announcing that Nyx was no longer part of this Empire and stripped from any authority she had held before.
What the fuck?
Even if that bitch didn’t care for the Empire, she would at least listen to Nyx, right?
That’s what he freaking thought!!
“Aether.” Nyx called him with an indifferent expression. Aether flinched, his eyes snapping to her. She was obviously mad at him, “I told you it’s not going to work, right?”
“…” Obviously, Aether didn’t have an answer.
Nyx blankly stared at him, “I threw myself out of my own Empire… what should I do now? Husband?” Her lips curled into a smile for the first time, but… that smile was not a smile at all.
She was way too pissed… and he knew it.
Aether gulped, forcing a shaky breath. “Nyx… I didn’t think she would throw you away—”
“She didn’t throw me away!! She threw us out!!” Nyx snapped… She never shouted at him like this!
How dare he say that so carelessly, without hesitation?
“All because of you!!”
She spat the words before turning away, her steps brisk as she walked off.
Aether sighed, nudging his forehead with his hand, fingers pressing deep as though he could crush the mistake out of his skull. ’Fuck.’ He didn’t expect things to go south like this.
Now that Nyx had been thrown out of the Empire, Aether… didn’t have any link to this place anymore. The bridges he counted on had been burned to ash in a single moment.
With Lia forgetting who he was… it would be nearly impossible to approach this Empire again.
Honestly, he thought this Empire would be his if he planned his way correctly, but… fuck this! His schemes unravelled faster than he could hold them.
’I… I really hate dealing with this woman,’ Aether thought, shaking his head bitterly as he was about to walk away when—
“Look who we got here?”
Aether turned back slowly and saw… Morgana, leaning against the wall with a sly smirk, curving her lips. Her eyes glimmered with cruel amusement, like a predator toying with wounded prey.
“How sad… Lia forgot all about you, didn’t she?” she mocked, her tone dripping with sympathy. “So sad, sniff, sniff.” She rubbed her eyes with exaggerated gestures with fake tears, “I think the one good thing that happened in her kidnapping is that she totally forgot about you!”
Aether’s lips twitched as he frowned, before walking towards her step by deliberate step.
