Chapter 91: Chapter 91: Don’t pretend

Amelia was just about to speak.

The words died in her throat the second she saw what was happening.

Especially that.

His length was thick, flushed, and fully hard in his hand, the tip glistening. And she had clearly heard her name on his lips.

Oh shit.

Everything seemed to freeze.

Enzo’s eyes met hers. He registered that she was standing there, that she had heard every syllable, and still he didn’t move to cover himself.

There was no flash of shame, no scramble to hide. If anything, the fact that she had caught him only sharpened the heat in his expression.

I’m not a criminal who just got caught, he thought, pulse still hammering. I’m more like a man who just got the exact audience he was fantasizing about—and is still hard because of it.

Amelia’s mind scrambled for footing.

This has to be a dream. Even if it isn’t, he should stop. He should look away. He should do something.

Instead they simply stared at each other. She could feel him waiting—watching for her reaction.

Screaming or acting scandalized would only make it worse. According to the lies she had already told, she was experienced. Seeing her partner like this shouldn’t throw her.

Stay cool. Stay cool.

She forced her voice into something dry and almost bored.

"Oh, for fuck’s sake... if you’re going to moan my name, at least make it louder. No need to be ashamed of it. And may I say, your weenie is mildly more impressive than a lot I’ve seen."

She turned, walked straight to the door, and opened it without looking back.

Fortunately—or unfortunately—Reid was already approaching down the hallway, her bag and phone in one hand.

He took one look at her flushed face and the way she was practically fleeing the room, then grinned. "Wow. Did Enzo give you a hard time in there, or was he just... giving himself one?"

Amelia snatched the bag and phone from him in one sharp motion.

"Don’t start. I am late, under-caffeinated, and currently trying very hard not to think about your brother’s dick. You can either walk me to the car in silence or I might do something very weird right now."

Reid stood frozen in the hallway, completely stunned, watching her practically sprint away.

What the hell happened in there?

Amelia didn’t look back. She reached the waiting car outside, yanked the door open, and slid into the back seat.

"Drive as fast as you can."

The driver nodded once and pulled away from the estate at a speed that had the tires skidding slightly on the gravel.

Amelia braced one hand against the seat, heart still racing for more reasons than one, and didn’t relax until the gates disappeared behind them.

By the time the car stopped near the college gates, only five minutes remained before the exam was scheduled to begin. Amelia climbed out, already shouldering her bag.

"Thank you for the speed that almost landed us both in the morgue," she said quickly. "Its really appreciated anyway."

Then she ran.

She made it into the lecture hall at the last possible second, dropped her bag at the front, and slid into her seat with a shaky exhale of pure relief. Papers were distributed. The exam began. Amelia forced every lingering image of Enzo out of her head and focused on the questions in front of her.

Hours later, the final invigilator collected the last sheets. Two more days, and the exams would finally be finished.

Amelia retrieved her bag from the front of the hall. Kate was already waiting for her, arms crossed.

"You were this close to missing it," Kate said. "What happened?"

The memory of Enzo’s groaning sound of her name flashed through Amelia’s mind. She bit her lip.

"I lost track of time."

Kate studied her for a second, then let it go. "Alright. Anyway, we’ve been trying to figure out that black hole we found in the secret bunker. The weird part is that no one can walk into that space. And you want to know the funny part?"

Amelia adjusted the strap of her bag.

"What?"

"We pulled the blueprints for the entire school—including every secret room that’s supposed to exist. There’s nothing on the other side of that wall. So where did that huge werewolf come from?"

"It’s possible that a gifted ability was used," Amelia said.

Kate’s expression tightened. "So there are other people out there like you and the twins nearer than we think. That’s honestly scary. And that werewolf didn’t even try to devour us."

"We were luckily spared."

Kate shook her head. "I don’t think we were spared for nothing. Whoever that woman was—the voice we heard right before we blacked out—she’s definitely watching us. For some reason we still don’t know."

Amelia stayed quiet.

Kate wasn’t far from the truth at all.

Wait a minute... could that same woman be responsible for the cursed object in my room?

But she already thought that can’t be true.

It almost killed me. Or maybe that was the plan—she knew I wouldn’t actually die, but that I’d be cut off from my past-life memories for a while.

The possibility was terrifying.

They stepped out of the lecture hall together. Amelia barely registered the students around them—some openly staring, others whispering with a mixture of curiosity and something closer to awe. Her mind was still turning over the implications of that unknown woman.

Kate suddenly leaned closer and her voice dropped.

"Did you commit some kind of highly specific, extremely dramatic crime that requires three dangerously attractive men to personally come collect you in public, or...?"

"I didn’t."

"Then why," Kate said, nodding toward the far end, "are your partners right over there?"

Amelia’s head snapped up.

Enzo, Reid, and Dean were walking toward her in perfect formation that made the whole world narrow down to just the three of them. It was like watching a slow-motion execution. The way they moved made the entire courtyard feel smaller.

You couldn’t breathe, you couldn’t run, and you sure as hell couldn’t look away.

What are they doing here?
