Chapter 89: Chapter 89: take care of me

Amelia drew in a slow breath and looked at the three of them again.

"Fine. Go ahead. I’d like to see how you could possibly make me feel better."

Reid’s mouth curved.

"We could start with a massage."

Amelia immediately pressed herself back against the medical bed.

"That’s definitely not happening."

She forced an exaggerated yawn, covering her mouth with the back of her hand.

"What I really need right now is sleep. A lot of it. It’s already pretty late."

Enzo gave a short nod. "That’s right. Your room won’t be available for a while. You’ll sleep here until we got change of plans."

"Sure."

She watched in silence as the three of them turned and left the medical bay. The door closed behind them with a soft click, leaving the room suddenly still.

Amelia lowered herself back against the pillows and shut her eyes.

She still had exams to finish. She couldn’t afford to lose that. Her thoughts began to blur at the edges, drifting toward the quiet, dangerous question that refused to leave her alone.

If they really are my mates... how will they react when they find out?

Some hours later, a soft, hesitant voice pulled at the edges of her sleep.

"Miss Amelia... Miss Amelia..."

The servant stood a careful distance from the bed, clearly afraid that touching her might trigger something. She could only keep calling the name, over and over, until Amelia finally stirred.

Amelia’s eyes opened slowly. For a moment she hoped the previous night had been nothing more than a nightmare. The sterile walls of the medical bay proved otherwise.

"You’re going to be late for your exams if you don’t prepare within the hour," the servant said carefully.

Amelia let out a low, unhappy sound and turned her face into the pillow.

"Isn’t it early? Can’t I sleep a little longer?"

"It’s eight in the morning."

Amelia’s eyes snapped open.

"What?"

She hadn’t noticed the time because the windows in the medical bay remained tightly shut, blocking any natural light.

"Exams start at nine. Why didn’t you wake me earlier?"

The servant looked uncomfortable. "The masters said you should be allowed to sleep a little longer... because of what happened."

Amelia sat up, rubbing a hand over her face. "Gosh. Really the worst possible time for them to start developing pity."

She swung her legs over the side of the bed. "I need to take a bath and get my books. Where’s my phone?"

"You’ll have to wait. You can’t go to your room. It’s been sealed off."

Amelia frowned. "Why? Didn’t they already find the curse object that was hidden there?"

The servant clearly didn’t know how to explain. Instead she simply gestured for Amelia to follow.

When they reached the doorway of her room, Amelia stopped short.

The ceiling was damaged and partially collapsed. Dust coated nearly every surface. Drawers had been emptied, furniture shifted, the entire space turned inside out during the search.

They nearly destroyed the room looking for it.

The realization left her momentarily speechless. Where am I supposed to sleep now?

The servant spoke carefully.

"Your personal items were recovered... but they are currently being held by the masters of the house."

Frustration tightened every line of Amelia’s body.

She turned on her heel and strode down the hallway without another word, stopping only when she reached Enzo’s door. She raised her fist and began banging on it—hard, repeated, uncaring of the hour or anything else.

"Enzo, i know your broody self is in there, come out."

The door opened, and amelia’s next words died in her throat when she saw him.

Enzo stood there shirtless, water still tracing slow paths down the hard planes of his chest and stomach. A dark towel hung low around his hips. His wet hair was pushed back from his face, and those grey eyes settled on her, making her gulp.

"I knew only you would do something like that," he said. "You’re finally awake."

Amelia forced her gaze to stay on his face. "I need a new room. And you should have woken me up earlier for my exams. Is this your idea of making me feel better? Because you’re failing in flying colors."

Enzo leaned a shoulder against the doorframe. "You won’t be getting a separate room for now. Until further notice, you’ll be using ours."

Amelia stared at him. "You can’t be serious."

He glanced past her at the waiting servant. "Leave us."

The woman disappeared down the corridor without question. Enzo opened the door wider.

"You have less than an hour before you need to leave for college. Your personal bathroom supplies have already been bought and placed in my room—same as in my brothers’ rooms. You can choose where to take your bath..." His gaze flicked over her once. "Hand out, or even make out with."

A shiver ran through Amelia’s body.

It wasn’t dread.

"I’m not making out with any one of you."

Enzo’s mouth curved a bit. "Your body is saying something different. So whose room will you choose?"

Amelia didn’t answer. She simply pushed past him and stepped into his room.

Enzo closed the door behind her. "I thought you would have chosen Reid instead."

"There’s no reason I chose your room," she said without looking at him. "I have an exam and I’m not missing it."

He held back the satisfied smile that threatened to surface.

"Don’t worry. Unlike Reid, I won’t be peeking."

Heat rushed straight to Amelia’s face. At the same time a low, unwanted throb pulsed between her legs, sudden and sharp enough that she pressed her thighs together for a fraction of a second before forcing herself to move.

She reached for the nearest door, pulled it open—and found only a dressing room lined with dark clothes.

Behind her, Enzo opened the actual bathroom door without a word.

Amelia walked in immediately. Her eyes, traitorous, caught the sharp V of muscle disappearing beneath the low edge of his towel before she could stop herself. She shut the door hard.

The reaction hadn’t escaped him.

Enzo remained where he stood, quietly pleased.
