Chapter 139: Chapter 139: my dear sons
Amy yanked her arm free before Caleb could say anything else.
"It’s personal." 𝘧𝓇ℯℴ𝓂
Caleb’s hand fell to his side, and his brows drew together as he watched her straighten her sleeve with an expression that made it clear she had no intention of explaining herself.
"What did Amelia tell you?" he asked. "Did you fall for her tricks?"
Amy let out a short, humorless laugh. She turned to face him, her eyes narrowing slightly.
"Someone like me doesn’t fall for petty tricks. I follow my instincts, and they’re never wrong." She paused, a faint, calculating smile touching her lips. "Something about Amelia is going to be very beneficial to me. At least until she becomes useless."
Caleb studied her face, searching for some indication of what she was really thinking. Amy met his gaze without the slightest discomfort, and after a moment, he realized he wasn’t going to get anything more out of her.
His jaw tightened.
"Fine. Since I’m going with them, I’ll find out for myself what makes her so special." He glanced down the corridor Amelia had taken earlier. "But having a few unusual powers doesn’t make her unique, and it certainly doesn’t mean she’s capable of turning people’s lives around for the better."
Amy’s expression didn’t change, but she seemed to find his certainty amusing. She turned on her heel and continued down the corridor without bothering to respond.
Caleb remained where he was, watching until she disappeared around the corner.
On the other hand, Amelia walked between the three brothers. She had noticed how quiet they had become since leaving the Supreme Court chamber, and she could guess what was bothering them.
"You shouldn’t worry," she said, glancing from one brother to the next.
Enzo turned his head toward her, his grey eyes settling on her face. "We’re definitely worried about your safety. But we’re more concerned about this so-called secret mission."
Reid gave a quiet snort, slipping his hands into his pockets as they continued down the corridor.
"The elder practically admitted he intends to use our feelings for you to get what he wants. I’m sure there’s more to this mission than he’s telling us."
"It’s true that he has something up his sleeve, but this mission could still work in our favor."
Enzo’s attention sharpened immediately. "Why do you think that?"
Amelia slowed her steps. She had wanted to keep it a surprise until they reached their destination, but perhaps it was better to tell them now rather than let them spend the entire journey wondering what she had planned.
She drew a breath and looked at all three of them. "I wanted to surprise you, but the truth is, I want you to reunite with your divine beasts."
The three brothers seemed genuinely caught off guard. Their footsteps faltered, and Reid’s hands slipped out of his pockets as he turned fully toward her.
Dean was the first to find his voice. "We have divine beasts?"
Amelia nodded.
"Yes. And I know where we can find them."
Reid ran a hand through his hair, his usual playful expression giving way to something more thoughtful. The prospect of gaining a divine beast was hardly a small matter, especially for three men who had spent years trying to become stronger. Yet the excitement that should have come with such news was overshadowed by a more immediate concern.
"That’s good news, Amelia, but I don’t like the idea of you risking your life just to help us get them back."
"Having your divine beasts will increase your stats and make you stronger," she replied, looking between them. "And I know they’ve been waiting for you. They miss their companions just as much as you would miss them if you were separated."
Enzo watched her carefully, his expression softening at the thought of what she was offering them, but his concern remained.
"We do want to become stronger, and having our divine beasts back would help us immensely. But how do you know they’re still waiting for us? How can you be so certain they even remember us?"
Amelia resumed walking, and the brothers fell into step beside her. "Because divine beasts don’t lose their memories."
The words left them unusually quiet.
They had spent so much of their lives searching for ways to increase their strength that the chance to reclaim something as powerful as their divine beasts should have been enough to fill them with anticipation. Instead, each of them found his thoughts returning to Amelia and the danger she would face along the way.
Whatever awaited them at their destination, they would deal with it. Their first priority was making sure she came back safely, even if it meant putting their own desires aside.

Later that evening, Madame arrived at the brothers’ quarters with her eyes red and swollen. Her face was drawn, and although she tried to compose herself when she entered, the sight of her sons only made her emotions harder to contain.
"These people want to send my sons to their deaths."
The brothers exchanged glances before moving closer to her. Dean reached her first, gently taking one of her hands while Enzo rested a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
"We always come back, Mother," Dean told her, his voice soft but certain.
Madame shook her head, fresh tears gathering in her eyes. "And how is that supposed to make me feel better? This time, your partner is going with you as well. It’s as though they’ve decided to make sure I never get any grandsons!"
Reid let out a quiet laugh at the last part, but it died when he saw the distress on her face. He moved closer, rubbing her shoulder while Dean kept hold of her hand.
Enzo’s expression remained composed, though his thumb moved gently over her shoulder in an attempt to soothe her.
"You know we’re not easy to kill."
Madame looked up at him, her eyes flashing with a mixture of fear and frustration.
"You weren’t easy to defeat because you were ruthless. You never hesitated to do whatever was necessary to survive." Her gaze moved from Enzo to his brothers, lingering on each of their faces. "But now you have Amelia. Your attention will be on keeping her safe, and I know you well enough to know that none of you will think twice about putting yourselves in danger for her."
