Chapter 130: Chapter 130: let’s take the burden from you

Amelia finished rinsing off, stepped out of the shower, and wrapped the towel robe around herself.

"I’ll be expecting an answer tomorrow. And tell the workers you ruined this place."

A short pause. "Bye, Amy."

She left the bathroom and returned to her room. The moment she stepped inside she stopped short.

Enzo was already there, standing near the newly renovated space as if he belonged in it.

"How did you get in?"

He raised a brow as he smirked. "Are you seriously asking that question?"

Amelia tightened the belt of her robe.

"Reid is rubbing off on you. You’re becoming a pervert."

"Or maybe," Enzo said, deeply, "I just wanted to see my beautiful partner."

Heat rose to her cheeks. "Shut up and leave. I want to get dressed."

"Come on. Are you shy about changing in front of me?"

Amelia’s chin lifted. "No. In fact, stay right there."

She untied the robe and let it fall.

For a brief second Enzo looked genuinely surprised. Then the surprise melted into something darker, heavier, and far more intentional. The way his gaze moved over her made a low, unwanted throb pulse between her legs.

Why did I think he would be the one to get embarrassed?

She grabbed the top and shorts already laid out on the bed and pulled them on.

"This room is too lavish. I don’t like it."

"Tell that to Dean," Enzo replied. "We already warned him."

Once she was fully dressed she crossed her arms.

"You didn’t just come here to stare at my ass, I bet."

"True. I came to do that... and more."

He gestured to the space beside him on the bed. Amelia sat, nerves tightening under her skin. In one smooth motion Enzo shifted, pinning her flat on her back with his weight settled carefully over her.

Her voice tried to come out firm. Instead it sounded far too interested. Her hands instinctively settled against his chest.

"Others will hear."

Enzo’s eyes stayed locked on hers. "Hear what? Are you expecting me to touch you?"

Amelia’s face burned.

"Of course not."

He leaned in just enough to take in her scent, breathing her in slowly.

"You really smell nice," he murmured. "You always have."

Amelia’s pulse jumped.

"What do you want?"

Enzo shifted and settled beside her on the bed instead of remaining over her. His voice dropped as it got more serious.

"It’s about your past lives."

She swallowed.

"I need to know for certain," he continued. "Whether we are your fated mates."

"What brought you to that conclusion?"

Enzo was silent for a moment, as if choosing the words carefully.

"I may have no clear memories of those lives," he said at last, "but my body still remembers the way it settles only when you’re near. My soul still reaches for yours like it’s been searching across lifetimes. And my heart... my heart still recognizes you as home, even when my mind refuses to catch up."

Amelia’s heart skipped hard at the honesty in his voice.

"It’s impossible to hide those kinds of things from you," she admitted quietly.

Something bright and sharp sparked in Enzo’s grey eyes.

"So it’s true."

She nodded. "I actually guessed it long before my memories returned. Back then I just... didn’t think any of you would have wanted to hear it."

"That’s not true," Enzo said. "We’ve had the same suspicion for a while. We’re not stupid. We were just too stubborn to admit it out loud."

He lifted a hand and stroked her cheek gently.

"I don’t want to be stubborn about it anymore."

Amelia looked at him softly. A sudden, vivid memory of him stroking himself while thinking of her flashed through her mind before she could stop it.

Fuck. He’s completely serious.

She drew a breath. "There’s something I want to tell you. All of you, actually."

"What is it?"

"My friend, Kate, is alive."

Enzo’s brows rose slightly. "That’s good news. How?"

"She told me my lightning struck her during the chaos... and it awakened a gifted ability in her."

"So it’s the same as what happened with the twins."

Amelia nodded.

"This is the first time I’ve ever encountered using such an ability like that."

Enzo fell quiet, clearly turning the information over in his mind. After a moment his expression softened with quiet frustration. "I’m sorry I can’t help you solve the mystery. I wish I could recover my own past-life memories as well."

Amelia met his gaze. "I think you can."

A spark of real hope lit his face.

"How?"

"I don’t know the exact method yet," she said. "But Kate mentioned she had a dream about one of her past lives. If she could access even a fragment that way... then there has to be a way for my mates to recover theirs too, instead of just waiting for the memories to return whenever they feel like it."

"Is there anywhere we could go to learn more about this? Anyone you could meet?"

Amelia’s expression dimmed slightly. "I’m not sure if they’re still alive. And even if they are... if they’ve already begun new lives, they won’t remember anything from the ones before."

She looked away, voice dropping almost to herself. "I don’t want to give up."

Enzo’s fingers gently caught her chin and turning her face back toward him so she had no choice but to meet his eyes.

"I want to know why," he said quietly. "Why you’re always the one who recovers the memories of those past lives. I have a feeling it has something to do with me and my brothers. We want to understand the reason... and we want to help."

Amelia’s throat tightened. "It’s painful to remember."

He drew her closer until their faces were only a breath apart.

"Then let us take that burden from you. You’ve been the one doing the protecting for so long. Now it’s our turn." His voice softened further. "Will you let us?"

She nodded once.

"Good girl."

The words had barely left his mouth before he closed the last of the distance and claimed her lips in a deep, sudden kiss.
