Chapter 631: Chapter 536: Shar Reappears
"I see it... Now, to stabilize and smooth it out..."
She began to softly chant the syllables of an ancient and obscure Spell. The violet light from her fingertips no longer flowed into the crystal.
Instead, like a conductor, she began to guide the Energy flowing through the array, weaving it with the Spell into countless "tendrils of light" finer than a strand of hair. These tendrils gently reached toward the crease in his soul.
The initial contact was a strange, tingling itch, as if countless, impossibly soft feathers were brushing against the most sensitive part of his soul.
But as the "tendrils" began to delve deeper into the crease, attempting to "comb" and "iron" it out, the sensation changed abruptly.
A sharp pain flared up, as if his soul was being torn apart and then forcefully glued back together.
This agony wasn’t physical. It acted directly on his very being, penetrating deeper than any physical wound, straight to the core of his consciousness.
Roland’s body trembled uncontrollably, and a cold sweat instantly beaded on his temples.
He could clearly "perceive" the stubborn crease resisting. It was as if it had become a part of his soul’s structure, fighting against any attempt to change it.
"Urk..."
Vanessa, clearly feeling the intense resistance and pain through their connection, turned slightly pale. Yet, her chanting grew more resolute, and the violet light guided by her fingertips remained steady.
"Hold on... Mr. Rudolph... This is the damage itself resisting... We must be slow and persistent..."
The pain came in waves, each one stronger than the last.
Roland gritted his teeth. The Trait [Sanctuary of Indomitable] activated passively, forcefully suppressing the Chaos and turmoil that the agony was creating in his consciousness, allowing him to maintain a sliver of clarity.
He could "see" Vanessa’s "tendrils of light" working with astonishing patience and precision. They were slowly combing out the twisted structure of the crease, capturing the dissipating "motes of light" and guiding them back into place.
The process was agonizingly slow.
Every second felt stretched out.
Sweat soaked Roland’s hair and back. His face was exceptionally pale from the soul-deep agony.
Beside them, Holland held his breath, his hand resting on his Nail Head Hammer.
Ellis, meanwhile, watched Vanessa and the array for the slightest change, ready to respond to any emergency.
Vanessa’s bangs were also slick with sweat, clinging to her cheeks. Her lips were pressed into a thin, white line, but her Violet eyes were shockingly bright, a Flame of absolute concentration Burning within them.
An unknown amount of time passed. It might have only been a few minutes, but it felt as long as a century.
Suddenly, Roland felt the constant, tearing pain begin to loosen its grip.
It was as if the most stubborn "knot" had been carefully untied.
Immediately after, a gentle warmth, like a stream from the source of life itself, flowed in through the "tendrils of light." They were no longer forcibly combing him out but had begun to gently fill and nourish the smoothed-out area.
The pain receded as quickly as a tide, replaced by an indescribable feeling of relief and wholeness.
The "crease" on his soul smoothed out and faded at a visible rate, eventually disappearing completely and merging seamlessly with the surrounding, undamaged soul-stuff.
The continuous dissipation of "motes of light" also came to an abrupt halt, as if a cracked vessel had finally been perfectly repaired, no longer leaking a single drop.
An unprecedented sense of lightness and stability rose from the depths of his soul, spreading throughout his entire consciousness.
It felt as if an invisible shackle that had long bound him had silently shattered.
He took a slow, deep breath, and then exhaled.
When he looked again with Introspection, the outline of his soul was clear and solid, emitting a uniform, subdued glow. Only a few faint blemishes remained, already beginning to heal.
’It seems... the repair is mostly complete. It should be fully restored after a few more ’treatments’...’
Just as Roland was marveling at how most of the damage to his soul had been repaired, a sudden, violent ringing seized his ears.
It wasn’t an ordinary hum, but a distortion, as if some higher-dimensional power had brutally intervened in his senses.
In an instant, every subtle sound in the Potion shop was erased as if by an invisible hand, vanishing without a trace.
The world fell into an absolute, heart-stopping silence. Even the sound of his own heartbeat and the flow of his blood seemed to be cut off.
At the same time, the image of his just-pacified soul, seen through Introspection, suddenly distorted and disintegrated. His vision was completely devoured by a pure, bottomless Darkness.
That Darkness was not a Void.
It was dense and ancient, with a cold texture and a Trait that devoured all light.
In this absolute Darkness and silence, a voice rang out without warning, directly in the depths of his consciousness.
The voice was husky, yet it possessed a strange, metallic magnetism. Every syllable seemed to have been polished to perfection by the ages—elegant, slow, and imbued with an indifference that looked down upon the mortal world.
"Well, well... a lost lamb? No... wait..."
The owner of the voice seemed to have noticed something extraordinary. A hint of genuine astonishment crept into their elegant tone.
"So... rich and profound. You should be one of my followers, should you not? Or rather... have the threads of your fate already been woven into my Domain?"
The voice paused, the confusion deepening.
It was like a distinguished collector discovering a treasure that should have been theirs, but of which they had no memory.
"But... why do I... have no impression of you?"
’Shire!’
Roland’s thoughts raced in the absolute silence and Darkness. In a flash, he identified who the voice belonged to.
As the name surfaced in his consciousness, the boundless Darkness before him seemed to stir, slowly coalescing and taking shape.
A slender, almost perfectly elegant female figure emerged silently from the pure Shadow.
Her face was veiled by a flowing gauze that seemed woven from the deepest night, obscuring her features. Only her eyes...
Or rather, they were the only "focal points" that could be perceived within the dark silhouette.
Like two absolute black stars that had annihilated all light, they "watched" Roland in silence.
An ineffable majesty, mixed with an ancient coldness and a sense of detached mastery over all things, washed over him like an invisible tide. Even this mere contact on a conscious level was enough to freeze a mortal soul.
The Shadow Goddess, the Lady of the Night, the Mistress of Loss and Oblivion—
Shire.
