Knight: from Apprentice to the Almighty
Chapter 578 - 509: Master of Shadows
Chapter 578: Chapter 509: Master of Shadows
’Shadow and Spiritual Affinity... This must be an effect of Celeste’s nature as a Succubus.’
Roland felt a new affinity for the Shadow deep within his soul, and his Perception of emotions and fluctuations in consciousness had become slightly more acute.
The change was faint, but it was definitely there.
Immediately after, a new line of even more brilliant gold text slowly materialized, carrying with it a peculiar, rhythmic quality.
[Acquired Trait: Master of Shadows]
[Master of Shadows: Your Demon Contract with the Succubus Celeste has brought you into contact with and granted you partial command over the innate, fundamental qualities related to "Charm," "Illusion," and "Existence Manipulation" within her bloodline.]
[This Trait is not mere mimicry. Rather, as feedback from the contract, your soul’s essence has developed an adaptive resonance with and limited dominion over these types of Power.]
[You can actively release the influence of "Master of Shadows" to drastically enhance your personal charisma, persuasiveness, and the impact of your first impression. This makes it easier for your words, expressions, and even your silent presence itself to earn the goodwill, trust, or subconscious awe of others.]
[This Trait has also brought about a subtle optimization of your appearance. The contours of your facial features, the texture of your skin, and your body’s proportions have not undergone structural changes. However, under the latent influence of "Master of Shadows," they will spontaneously trend toward a harmonious state that best aligns with the current world’s mainstream aesthetic and is most suitable for accentuating the strengths of your own disposition. It is as if you have been meticulously sculpted by a master artist to achieve a natural and "perfect" balance.]
[However, excessively or prolonged active use of the "Master of Shadows" enhancement effect may cause those with weak wills to develop fanatical infatuation or blind obedience. It may also attract the attention or hostility of certain beings who are sensitive to Extraordinary charisma. Please use with caution.]
As the gold text finished its description, a strange, warm current quietly suffused Roland’s entire body and the depths of his soul.
It was not an infusion of Power, but more like an Awakening of a subtle Perception and control over his own "outward presentation" and "sphere of influence."
With a mere thought, he tried to guide this newly acquired Power.
No aura of light flared, but an indescribable charisma began to radiate from him naturally.
It was not the aggressive, seductive, demonic charm of Celeste, but a more serene and dignified, yet singularly attractive, unique disposition.
Roland walked to a corner of the Otherdimensional Space, where a floor-length mirror framed with silver leaf had stood since he first obtained the Secret Imprisonment Dice.
The mirror’s surface was pristine, clearly reflecting his figure.
The person in the mirror was indeed him—black hair, black eyes, with well-defined features.
But...
Something seemed different.
The arch of his eyebrows seemed more dashing and natural.
The line of his nose looked as though it had undergone the most minute optimization.
The shape of his lips had become more defined and expressive.
His skin emanated a healthy, gentle luster—not pale, not tan, but a perfect texture.
Most striking of all were his eyes.
Within their original depths, a restrained yet undeniable radiance now seemed to flow.
When he focused his gaze, it felt as if it could pierce straight to a person’s heart—calm, yet carrying immense weight.
It wasn’t a shallow change, like becoming "more beautiful" or "more handsome," but an overall presentation of ultimate harmony, coordination, and "presence."
It was as if his current appearance was the most perfect external form this body and soul could possibly achieve.
’Is this... the influence of the Master of Shadows?’
Roland gazed at his reflection, feeling not so much joy at the change in his appearance, but more a sense of calm assessment.
This Trait, born from the contract’s feedback and touching upon the "charisma" and "presence" aspects at the level of Rules, possessed a strategic value that perhaps far exceeded simple enhancements to combat ability.
Whether for gathering intelligence, social maneuvering, leading a team, or intimidating opponents, [Master of Shadows] could provide irreplaceable support.
Paired with the [Sanctuary of Indomitable]’s absolute immunity to Spiritual Control, he could use this "charisma" freely and boldly, without having to worry about backlash or losing himself.
[Soul Shepherd], [Master of Shadows]...
The rewards from subjugating Celeste this time were far richer than he had anticipated.
"Celeste."
Roland turned, his gaze falling once more upon the floating head.
Celeste’s expression was much calmer than before. Though still weak, the madness and despair in her eyes had been replaced by a profound exhaustion and absolute submission.
Hearing his call, she immediately focused her spirit and responded humbly.
"Master, what are your orders?"
"I need you to enter a deep slumber to repair your spiritual wounds and recover your basic Power as quickly as possible, especially your Illusion Technique and Perception abilities."
Roland issued the command directly through their contract link.
"Without my summons, you are not to awaken on your own or attempt any action."
"Yes, Master."
Celeste showed no hesitation.
As her voice fell, her violet eyes slowly closed.
At the same time, her floating head and faint aura began to turn transparent and ethereal.
It didn’t vanish instantly, but rather faded like ink diffusing in water, gradually spreading out and growing faint.
Finally, it dissolved into countless motes of light, so fine they were almost invisible, twinkling with a dim violet glow. As if drawn by an unseen force, they silently merged into Roland’s body.
Or rather, they merged into that deeper Domain of consciousness, which was intrinsically linked to his soul.
Roland clearly "felt" this process.
There was no physical contact, yet a subtle, cool sensation, like a water droplet falling into a deep pool, brushed across the surface of his soul.
Immediately after, he could perceive that in a serene corner of his Sea of Consciousness, an extremely weak existence, plunged into a deep slumber, had quietly settled in.
She rested there like the deepest of dreams, maintaining a clear and stable contractual link with the core of his will.
A marvelous sense of control and of her being readily available arose within him.
Without needing the Secret Imprisonment Dice as a medium, he could awaken her with a mere thought through this soul link, or "project" her from the depths of his consciousness into the real world.
She was no longer an "item" stored in some spatial artifact, but had truly become an extension of his being, bound to his soul and as easy to command as his own limbs.
After taking a deep breath, Roland scanned the orderly Otherdimensional Space, confirmed everything was in order, and then stepped out of the internal space of the [Secret Imprisonment Dice].
The silver door closed without a sound, once again becoming the inconspicuous, dark-colored eight-sided die, which fell back into his palm.
The room remained quiet, with only the faint sounds of the tavern being repaired drifting in from outside the window.
Just then, a series of somewhat hurried, muffled thuds sounded from the wooden hallway outside, growing closer until they stopped right at his door.
"Rudolph!"
Before the voice had even faded, the oak door was forcefully shoved open with a loud BANG.
Holland’s tall figure burst in with a whirlwind of energy, his face still showing a trace of the excitement from directing the repairs. He began to speak the moment he entered.
"Buddy, about that partnership we talked about, I think we need to iron out the details, like how we’ll divide up jobs and the specific way we’ll split the spoils, uh..."
His words were cut short as if severed by an invisible blade, coming to an abrupt halt.
Holland froze in the doorway, as if he’d been instantly hit by a Petrification Spell.
His mouth hung slightly open, and his eyes, habitually half-closed out of laziness, were now slowly widening in disbelief. Reflected in his pupils was the figure standing quietly in the center of the room.
It was as if he were truly "seeing" him for the very first time.
