Knight: from Apprentice to the Almighty
Chapter 576 - 508: [Demon Contract: Soul Shepherd]
Chapter 576: Chapter 508: [Demon Contract: Soul Shepherd]
Those Violet eyes, once swirling with a bewitching, illusory light capable of making the weak-willed sink into depravity in an instant, were now unfocused.
Reflected in their depths was not Roland’s figure, but what seemed to be an endless, hollow Darkness.
The whites of her eyes were covered in a fine, web-like network of blood vessels—not from anger, but from prolonged, extreme mental strain and exhaustion.
Her gaze would tremble violently one moment, then sink into a deathly, vacant stupor the next, as if she could slide into the chaotic Abyss of consciousness at any second.
More unsettling were the subtle expressions on her face.
They were not deliberate attempts at Charm or pity, but uncontrollable spasms and twitches originating from the very instinct of her soul.
The slight furrow of her brow was not born of calculation, but of pain.
The subtle twitch at the corner of her mouth had nothing to do with allure; it was pure Fear.
All the meticulously honed techniques of facial control, once used to bewitch the masses, had crumbled to dust under the long torment of the Void, leaving only the raw leakage of her most primal emotions.
"I was wrong... I repent... For my arrogance... my foolishness... I prostrate myself before you..."
She whispered intermittently. The Succubus’s voice, once like honey laced with poison, capable of effortlessly plucking at one’s heartstrings, was now nothing but a dry, hoarse, and naked plea for mercy.
All her techniques, her allure, her schemes were gone. Her words held only the purest, most extreme desire for an "end to the Void."
"The Darkness... the silence... it’s devouring me... dissolving me... I beg you... have mercy... even a sliver of light... a wisp of wind... a single... sound..."
Her plea was laced with an unconcealable Fear that bordered on utter madness.
It was as if she was using the last fragments of her lucidity to desperately cling to any trace of the "outside world," struggling in despair on the edge of an infinite cliff of "nothingness."
"A contract... a brand... a slave... anything! I will offer my true name! I will offer my primal Flame! I will place the reins of my soul into your hands myself!"
Her speech grew faster, her emotions more agitated, her voice taking on a grating quality like scraping metal.
It was as if she feared this faint opportunity would vanish in an instant, feared that Roland would turn and leave, casting her back into that eternal prison that made her shudder more than the lowest depths of the Abyss.
"Just... just let me leave this place... let me ’feel’ again... let me serve you... Even if it means gnawing on the foulest earth... or facing the most sacred Flame... I would gladly accept it!"
"I beg you... Master... I am willing to become your humblest Servant Demon... your most loyal hound... your most silent Shadow... in any form! At any cost!"
Her voice finally broke into a fragmented whimper, almost a sob.
"A Servant Demon?"
A thought stirred in Roland’s mind, his gaze falling upon Celeste’s beautiful face, now twisted by extreme Fear and longing.
’From what I know, a Servant Demon isn’t a simple slave or Summoned Creature.’
’It’s a form of connection based on a specific Magic Contract, somewhere between master and subordinate, yet far more intimate and profound than a normal summoning.’
’Forging a Demon Contract means a Caster deeply binds a part of their own Magic Power or spiritual imprint with the core essence of another being with independent consciousness—usually Magical Creatures or existences from an Otherworld.’
’The benefits are obvious.’
’First, there’s the near-absolute control.’
’Unlike servants or allies who might betray, misunderstand, or act on their own, a Demon Contract operates directly on the essential level of both parties.’
’The master’s will holds an almost instinctual, compulsory priority for the Servant Demon. While it doesn’t completely erase the Servant Demon’s self-awareness, it’s enough to ensure it cannot directly harm its master and will faithfully execute commands in most situations.’
’Second, there’s convenience and secrecy.’
’A Servant Demon can usually reside within the master’s Magic Power or a special container, allowing it to be summoned or dismissed at will without complex rituals or the cost of sustaining its long-term presence.’
’When needed, they can be a deadly Assassin, a covert spy, or a special medium for Casting.’
’And when not in use, they take up almost no space and are difficult to detect by ordinary means.’
’Furthermore, there’s the complementarity of abilities.’
’A powerful Servant Demon can often provide special abilities the master lacks.’
’Especially an Otherworldly being like a Succubus, who is naturally proficient in Illusion Techniques, Spiritual Influence, and Shadow Shifting.’
’They are exceptionally sensitive to fluctuations in desire, emotion, and the soul, which can be unexpectedly useful in certain situations, such as intelligence gathering, infiltration, or dealing with specific types of enemies.’
’Of course, there are risks as well.’
’The strength of the contract depends on the power disparity between the two parties and the perfection of the contract itself.’
’A resentful Servant Demon with a strong will might slack off within the contract’s permissible limits, or even search for loopholes.’
’The very essence of some ancient Otherworldly beings might carry contamination or hidden dangers imperceptible to the master.’
’But this Succubus before me...’
Roland looked at the craving for "existence" in her eyes—a desire so intense it seemed ready to burn her to ashes—and her completely shattered willpower.
’Subduing her as a Servant Demon seems...’
’The risks are manageable, and the potential value, especially in this unfamiliar and perilous era, might be quite considerable.’
’An Otherworldly spy and assistant, proficient in Illusion Techniques and Spiritual Techniques, forced into loyalty by absolute terror...’
"Alright."
Roland’s voice was calm and concise, yet it boomed like a bell of salvation, resounding through Celeste’s crumbling consciousness.
The levitating head trembled violently. An incredible, intense light—a mixture of ecstasy and profound relief—erupted in her Violet eyes. It was as if a drowning person had finally grasped a piece of driftwood, nearly fainting from the sudden arrival of Hope.
The remaining tears, mixed with an ineffable emotion, slid silently from the corners of her eyes.
"Thank you... Great Master... Merciful... Lord..."
She spoke incoherently, her voice choked and hoarse. Every word trembled with the relief of a catastrophe survivor.
"Celeste Astalot... that is my true name... my origin... the core of my existence... I now offer it to you without reservation!"
The moment the full true name "Celeste Astalot" was spoken, it was as if some invisible shackle had been unlocked, and a new bond began to weave itself into existence.
A faint yet distinct fluctuation, originating from her Abyssal essence, emanated from her head. It carried a sense of submission and openness as it proactively reached out to meet Roland’s will.
Roland hesitated slightly, but ultimately recalled the fragmented contents of ancient texts. With a slight turn of thought, he extended a thread of pure Spiritual Power along the soul link Celeste had willingly opened.
The instant the two forces made contact, a complex and ancient contract Rune, composed of pure Spirit and Energy, began to form automatically.
It was not imposed unilaterally. Instead, with Celeste having completely abandoned all resistance—even actively guiding and cooperating—it rapidly took shape, using her true name and origin as its foundation and Roland’s will and Power as its catalyst.
The core of the Rune was unilateral, absolute dominance and unconditional obedience. The extended clauses contained the basic framework for summoning and dismissing the Servant Demon, its restraints, and the permission to use its abilities based on the master’s will.
The entire process was silent and swift. There were no dazzling lights, only a soundless resonance and branding on the spiritual plane.
When the final line of the Rune stabilized and was deeply branded into Celeste’s soul core and the spiritual imprint Roland had extended, the contract was officially formed.
A brand new, clear, and stable connection was established in Roland’s consciousness.
He could now perceive Celeste’s state of being and general emotions at any time.
Through this link, he could directly transmit clear commands to her and even share her senses within a certain range.
More importantly, he held absolute control over her very essence. A single thought could activate the contract’s power, allowing him to inflict punishments ranging from mild pain to complete Annihilation.
Celeste let out a long sigh, one that seemed to release a thousand-pound burden, yet was tinged with deep exhaustion.
The near-maniacal Fear and distortion on her face gradually subsided. Though still weak, her eyes regained some focus.
She gazed at Roland deeply and humbly, with no trace of resentment or calculation remaining—only the submission and sense of belonging of a post-cataclysmic survivor.
And at the very same moment the contract stabilized and the master-subordinate connection was fully established...
At the edge of Roland’s vision, a brilliant golden radiance quietly lit up. It swiftly condensed and stretched, transforming into a line of majestic, ancient, gilt-edged text that slowly materialized.
