Knight: from Apprentice to the Almighty
Chapter 410 - 394: [Destiny Red String]
Chapter 410: Chapter 394: [Destiny Red String]
[Destiny Red String]
[You have been generously granted an invisible "safety rope" by the Goddess of Love Shuni, a "Light Rope" that anchors one’s very existence. It can provide, but is not limited to, a continuous report on basic vital signs.]
[You can clearly perceive the other party’s location and distance as if checking map coordinates, and you can monitor the waxing, waning, and extinguishing of their Fire of Life in real-time, just as you would mind the flame of a backyard barbecue.]
[This is undoubtedly a fine ability, provided you don’t mind if the lucky individual connected to you develops some reasonable misunderstandings about you being a "perverted stalker" due to this one-sidedly transparent, close connection.]
[After all, when a "survival status indicator" pointing to a specific person—one that can never be turned off—is perpetually lit in your world, escape and privacy become luxuries.]
[By Lady Shuni, this is by no means an amorous entanglement, but that doesn’t stop it from being an elegant, social disaster.]
"Destiny Red String?"
Staring at the description that had appeared before him, Roland frowned slightly.
He vaguely recalled hearing the name from Galvis before. It was supposedly a unique ability granted by the Goddess of Love Shuni, whom the Minstrel worshipped.
It was with this power that the Minstrel had been able to confirm his own location in the Land of Mist after the Wailing Gorge incident.
However...
’The Magic City Jiles incident was over half a year ago, so why is this Trait only activating now? And...’
Roland placed a hand on his chest, confirming that the strange palpitation from before had completely subsided. Doubt bloomed in his heart.
’This should be a boon exclusive to Galvis, so why has it appeared on my Professional Panel? Is it just because he formed this connection with me that I can share this ability?’
’Or does the effect of this connection only work between the two of us?’
Just as he was lost in thought, a faint buzzing sound suddenly reached his ears.
At first, the sound was ethereal, as if coming from the far end of a long corridor, carrying a hollow Echo.
But soon, the static faded, and the words grew clearer, finally coalescing into a complete sentence.
"Hey! Hey! Roland! Can you hear me?"
"Galvis?"
Although the voice was still a bit muffled, its unique, somewhat dramatic tone allowed Roland to immediately recognize the speaker’s identity.
"Oh! Praise be to Shuni’s grace! For once, Her Ladyship’s gift didn’t fail at a critical moment..."
Hearing the reply from his cell, Galvis let out a long sigh of relief and then continued, his words tumbling out in a rush.
"Roland, where are you right now?"
In response to the question, Roland briefly recounted his recent experiences.
"Cool!"
Galvis whistled, then shook his head in regret.
"What a shame! I can’t believe I missed out on such an exciting adventure... Wait!"
The Minstrel clicked his tongue, a sudden realization dawning on him.
"You’re saying you’re... Rudolph? The legendary hero my master wrote about, that Rudolph?"
"We can talk about that later. In fact... never mind..."
Roland shook his head gently, sighed, and changed the subject.
"Why the sudden contact, Galvis? Did you guys already make it to Roaring Harbor?"
Having spent so much time deep within the sunless earth-veins, Roland had lost some track of time.
But by his rough estimate, at least several months had passed.
It would make sense for Avril and Galvis to have already reached Roaring Harbor.
"If only things were that simple! Listen, Roland, we’re in big trouble!"
Galvis quickly backed into a corner, scanned his surroundings warily, and lowered his voice to recount his own experience.
"The Elder Council is already deliberating on how to deal with Avril. Before long, your reliable Elf companion will probably be cast into eternal reincarnation. But..."
He recalled the subtle atmosphere between Avril and Tula and continued, combining that with the information he had.
"Avril seems to have reached some kind of agreement with Tula. I don’t know the details, but she should be safe for the time being. Still, if this drags on for too long..."
Although Galvis didn’t finish his sentence, the meaning was self-evident.
"I understand."
Roland took a deep breath, his decision made in an instant.
Given his friendship and shared experiences with Avril, he felt bound by both sentiment and reason to rescue his companion in peril.
What’s more, Galvis’s own situation was far from optimistic.
Though the Minstrel hadn’t said so explicitly, Roland could sense from his fragmented words that there were dark undercurrents stirring within the Elf Race.
After all, Galvis was just a Minstrel ill-suited for combat. If the situation truly worsened, it was unlikely that his master, who supposedly had no influence within the race, could protect him.
But before he could formulate a rescue plan, there was one more critical question to resolve.
"Galvis, where exactly is this Elf Race homeland, the Eternal Song Forest, that you mentioned? And how do I get in?"
Although Galvis rarely spoke of his homeland, Roland had gleaned some information from their daily conversations.
With the fading of the Magic Elements, the Elf Race’s power was greatly diminished.
To guard against outside enemies, they had secluded themselves deep within a boundless forest, erecting a powerful Barrier around its perimeter and strictly forbidding entry to outsiders.
As a result, even those who knew the general location would get lost within the Barrier.
Even if one were to luckily break through the Barrier, they would be met with a merciless attack from the Elves.
This was also why Roland hadn’t accompanied Avril and Galvis when they returned to the Eternal Song Forest.
"That’s easy, Roland. I can’t tell you the exact location of the Eternal Song Forest, but there are entrances to it all over. The one closest to you is in..."
Galvis’s voice suddenly became erratic, as if coming from a great distance, before vanishing completely, leaving behind only a faint static-like noise.
「In the prison cell.」
"The closest entrance is deep in the forest west of the Rock Kingdom. It’s easy to find, you just have to look for... Roland? Roland? Dammit!"
Galvis cursed under his breath.
Just as he was trying to re-establish the connection, a gentle voice suddenly spoke up.
"Mr. Galvis."
Somehow, Tula had already returned and was now standing outside the cell door.
"The Elder Council summons you..."
The Elf’s lips curved into an impeccable smile.
"Please come with me."
"Tch..."
Galvis narrowed his eyes, the cynical, carefree expression completely gone from his face.
’To interfere even with a great power bestowed by the Gods... Just what is this person’s background?’
After a deep breath, the Minstrel gave a slight nod.
"In that case, shouldn’t you open the cell door?"
"Of course."
Tula waved a hand lightly, and the Elf Warrior beside them opened the door, escorting Galvis down the dark corridor.
The dungeon returned to a deathly silence, with only the rhythmic sound of dripping water echoing off the stone walls in the distance.
