Knight: Becoming King of the World
Chapter 389 - 269: Kurt, You Bot
Chapter 389: Chapter 269: Kurt, You Bot
As expected, another adjutant stepped forward. He held a Heavy Sword and strode aggressively towards Bain. "Knight Bain, I’ve come to test myself against you!"
Bain gave a slight nod. He called a soldier to bring him a Heavy Sword, then reset his stance.
This adjutant was clearly stronger. Every swing of his Heavy Sword cut through the air with a powerful whoosh.
It was obvious Bain was being far more cautious against the Heavy Sword. He used his footwork and timing to continuously evade the adjutant’s attacks.
’You couldn’t be careless with a weapon like this. One slip-up, and you’d lose the match.’
With weapons like Heavy Swords and battle-axes, duels were often decided in a single moment.
Their battle grew more intense. Heavy Sword clashed against Heavy Sword, creating a piercing shriek of metal.
Fortunately, Bain saw an opening. With a flick of his sword’s tip, he angled his blade into a parry, deflecting the adjutant’s Heavy Sword. He immediately followed up with a thrust toward the adjutant’s shoulder.
The adjutant saw it coming and tried to retreat, but it was too late.
Bain shifted his body, and the tip of his sword came to a halt right beside the adjutant’s shoulder. He then withdrew his sword. "You’ve lost."
The adjutant was a bit embarrassed, but he had to acknowledge Bain’s strength. He gave a nobleman’s bow and stepped aside.
The adjutant continued to gesture with his Two Hands, repeatedly replaying his duel with Bain.
He came to the conclusion that even if he had blocked Bain’s attack, his defeat would have only been a matter of time.
The next few adjutants also took their turns, one after another. Some were skilled in Swordsmanship, some in wrestling, and others in tests of pure strength.
But regardless of their specialty, Bain handled them all with ease, relying on his own skill and experience.
He didn’t lose a single match. While he fought to a draw on a few occasions, every duel ultimately ended with his victory.
Bain’s performance left the surrounding soldiers in awe. They cheered for him, applauding his courage and skill.
The adjutants fell silent. They had subjected him to an unsportsmanlike gantlet, one opponent after another, yet Bain didn’t even seem tired. That alone spoke volumes.
Henry stood to the side, a satisfied smile on his face.
When the matches concluded, Bain was clearly fatigued, but he maintained his dignified posture.
The adjutants had no choice but to admit Bain’s strength. They gathered around him, one and all expressing their admiration.
"Knight Bain, we lost," an adjutant said seriously.
That sentence alone signified that Bain’s strength had completely won them over.
Bain smiled slightly. "You are all very strong. I was just a bit luckier tonight. I hope we’ll have the chance to spar again in the future."
The adjutants nodded in agreement. Though they had lost, they hadn’t lost their confidence.
The corners of Henry’s mouth tilted up, and his eyes flashed with approval. Bain’s response was perfect—not a hint of arrogance, no forced humility, and it didn’t make the adjutants present feel like they were being looked down on.
Bain’s response conveyed a sense of peace and confidence, as if he were simply stating a simple fact.
’Among "normal people,"’ Henry thought, ’Bain is not only a master of Martial Arts, but more importantly, he understands how to remain humble and respectful toward others. That quality alone is enough for him to one day take charge of his own domain.’
This was exactly what Henry had hoped for from Bain...
He now ruled over one established city and two castles, and he still hadn’t fully assimilated the castles within the Odoche region.
As his territory continued to expand, the burdens on people like Bain would have to increase.
Although the adjutants had lost today and hadn’t really won... which sounded a bit shameful... their faces didn’t show much disappointment.
On the contrary, their eyes shone with excitement and satisfaction.
Bain’s Bravery and strength were plain for all to see. Being able to go head-to-head with him, and even occasionally fight him to a draw, was in itself a great affirmation of their own abilities.
And that was enough!
They gathered around Bain, their eyes showing both admiration and an eager anticipation for a future challenge.
For them, the chance to spar with such a formidable opponent was an honor in itself. Men from the academy worshipped the strong; they were not sore losers.
The celebration was in full swing, exceptionally lively. Laughter and cheerful voices filled the air as everyone reveled in the joyous atmosphere.
However, amidst this sea of joy, the envoy party of Selas and Kurt, dispatched to Tiyaer, cut a rather lonely figure.
Throughout the journey, Selas had been trying to make small talk with Kurt, attempting to break the awkward silence.
His topics ranged from the weather to the journey itself, from the passing scenery to the local customs of Tiyaer, but Kurt only seemed flustered and at a loss.
His face was bright red and his eyes were evasive as he struggled to answer each of Selas’s questions. His voice was soft, as if he were afraid his answers would only make the atmosphere more awkward.
The more Selas talked, the more tired he became. He found he couldn’t elicit any enthusiasm from Kurt whatsoever, and he even started to doubt whether his own conversation topics were interesting at all.
’Dude, is it really that hard to have a conversation with me?’
Finally, he sighed and decided to shut up, putting an end to this one-sided "conversation."
Kurt seemed to let out a sigh of relief as well. He lowered his head slightly, as if grateful he no longer had to answer.
The escorting Cavalry watched this unfold, feeling a little curious. Selas was a cheerful, sociable person, while Kurt seemed so shy and reserved.
Kurt had once been an Independent Noble, so logically, he should have been worldly and seen much of life. His current behavior, however, baffled everyone.
