Chapter 279 - Alibi
Assistant Sean summarized to Cain what happened and why the former King lost consciousness. He also explained what was going on inside the palace, so Cain already knew what uncle Lucas was going through.
"He held it all in till King Gavin left to take care of everything. He only asked a servant to accompany him back inside his bedroom then he lost consciousness. Gavin was here a while ago, but I assured him I could look after his father and urged him to do what he had to do first and just come back once he completes his tasks since Lucas will ask him the same thing if he is conscious…" Sean explained.
Cain finished looking at uncle Lucas. He gave him some medicine to calm his nerves since he was experiencing great depression.
There was a knock on the door, and it was Kevin.
"The King lifted the entry and exit ban so everyone can now go in and out freely once cleared," Kevin reported to assistant Sean.
Sean nodded and dismissed Kevin that instant, knowing the latter was also busy ensuring the palace's security was intact.
Cain looked at his wristwatch. Sean noticed it, so he said, "Do you need to be somewhere? You have already seen Lucas, and you can just endorse anything with your team, who will monitor him once he wakes up. You don't need to stay long here."
Cain was about to say something, but the door swung open, and Leila with Kimmy entered the bedroom.
"What happened to my brother?" Leila asked, full of worry. The servant relayed to her what happened to Lucas, so she rushed to her brother's bedroom.
"He's fine now, just that he's in shock upon knowing the truth. I gave him some medication to calm his nerves. He will wake up soon…" Cain commented. His eyes were on Kimmy, whose head was tilted down.
"But what happened? Why is he in shock?" Leila asked in a row. Sean guided the two women to sit on the couch and then told the two what had happened.
"Oh, God… Is that why Gavin banned the entrance and exit in the palace? Oh God, I can't believe this! How can that man do something like this? Oh… My poor nephew… Gavin must be in great pain."
"Don't worry, Princess Leila. Our King is strong. See how he handled everything up to this point. He's doing great. He just needed to hide things from us up to this point not to jeopardize the plans for today since he was afraid we couldn't keep our calm once we found out the truth, especially his father, Lucas." Sean reassuringly said.
"That's true. I don't know how Gavin did it, but I am so proud of my nephew. He did well in finding the truth. That man Duncan should pay for all his crimes no matter who he is! Yes, he takes good care of Gavin, but that won't compensate for everything he did. We lost Gavin because of him. Oh, my poor brother must have been so broken."
"That Duncan intentionally robbed my brother of all those years he could have spent with his other son! That monster!" Leila grunted with teary eyes. She had mixed emotions at that moment. She pitied and sympathized for her brother and was grateful at the same time that things finally came to light.
Kimmy was utterly shocked to know what was happening, but she was more distracted by how Cain never left his gaze towards her.
'Oh my God… Why does he keep staring at me like that…' Kimmy mused, feeling shivers running down her spine. Her face reddened while her heart kept beating so hard.
Cain stood up from his seat and casually sat beside her. Kimmy gulped hard.
Something was definitely wrong with her. She could feel her stomach-churning.
"Did your friend leave already?" Cain casually asked. He was hoping Harry left already and Kimmy stayed just like now instead of going with Harry.
"Yeah," Kimmy whispered. Cain controlled his wide smile because that answer just made him so happy. Today was a very special day for him since he and Kimmy shared a wonderful and passionate love-making session. He wanted to do more and treat Kimmy on this special day, but he did not want to overdo things and scare Kimmy, knowing her fears of serious commitment like marriage.
"Let's have a meeting later. I need to discuss things about the company that we are considering for investment. I need you by my side so tell me when you're ready to leave. It's a bit sudden, but I will make it quick so we can return early," Cain added, hoping Kimmy would cooperate with him so they could spend more time together.
It was just an alibi, and he knew he sounded authoritative, but he could not think of any other way to keep Kimmy by his side other than using the excuse of work-related matters.
Kimmy looked at her mother, who just gave her a nod.
'What the heck? Shouldn't you ask Cain why he is asking me to work when it's Coronation Day? An important event for the royal family!' Kimmy wanted to voice out to her mother, but she knew it would be futile since her mother loved Cain so much for her.
Leila understood her daughter's glare and eye signal, but she was not in the mood to cooperate with Kimmy's childishness in handling matters like this.
"You look pale?" Cain suddenly uttered, touching her cheek and forehead, not minding other eyes in the room. Kimmy's lips and face turned pale, so he suddenly got worried.
Kimmy felt nervous for some reason, so she looked at her mother and said, "Mom, I will go first."
Cain's touches were betraying her, and she was sure her mother would figure it out sooner or later.
Leila could only nod as she watched Kimmy almost run out of the room. Cain looked at Leila and Sean as he said, "I will go first too. Please call me if anything happens, or you need me back."
