Chapter 136 - You’re Not Dead
Brione had just finished eating lunch with uncle Damiel and Gavin when she looked at her mobile phone. Since she had put it on silent mode earlier, she was surprised to see a lot of missed calls both from Mitch and Berry.
She excused herself from uncle Damiel and Gavin who were talking in the living area while having some tea. She then dialed Mitch's number with a frown.
"Is there a problem? Why are there so many missed calls from you and Berry?" Brione asked.
"Yeah... Well, I'm not sure but I feel like the new CEO will be giving us some headaches. He is demanding to see you right now. I already told him that you're out for personal matters but he insisted that I call you." Mitch informed her.
Then she asked, "What do you want to do? Should I just tell him that we can't reach you?"
"Hmm, I want to terminate the contract today, Mitch. Are you going to come with me once I leave the company? I'm not comfortable with Derek and I feel like he will only bring more trouble to me. The first impression I had of him is not good and I'm not comfortable with him. He is giving me the creeps.
I know it's too early to judge him like this but you know how I can discern people. He is up to no good so I will take the initiative to leave. It will be uncomfortable to work with a man who I can tell has this malicious thought about me.," Brione said.
Derek's words with her last time had a clear message. He was the type of man who would get what he wanted and she knew that she was one of his targets.
"I understand. Don't worry I will handle everything so just enjoy your time with Gavin and his family. You do know that Berry and I will always have your back so wherever you go, the two of us will follow," Mitch reassured. The two of them talked more about other things before Brione ended the call.
Gavin noticed the change in Brione's expression and he could easily tell that something bothered her after the call.
"Father, me, and Brione need to leave. Is it okay if we will just come back again? I will still need to meet my old friends," Gavin explained with a smile.
"Oh, sure son. We have plenty of time to see each other more, now that you came back. You and Brione can always have a sleepover here too like you used to before," Damiel said as he accompanied the couple to their car.
Once they were inside at the backseat of the car, Gavin held Brione's hand and asked, "What's wrong? Who called you?"
Brione sighed and replied, "it was Mitch. The CEO wanted to talk to me but she will handle it already. I told her I will terminate the contract with the company so it's really nothing just that… I feel bad since I've been into Cooper Entertainment ever since I started my career. And now I have to leave because of some douchebag."
"Sweetheart watch your words," Gavin reminded her, rather amused by her words. Then he added, "don't worry I will take care of it so for now all you need to do is enjoy spending time with me. My people will coordinate things directly with Mitch and Berry."
Brione chuckled and teased, "I bet it's so nice to be a Prince…"
"Well I have my advantages… but then it still doesn't mean that my life is excused from danger. I can be powerful but that doesn't mean that I hold enough power to do everything I want…" Gavin commented with a sigh.
Brione understood what he meant so she squeezed his hand and comforted him by saying, "It's scary if you are given enough power to do everything. But anyway, let's change the topic. Before going straight back home, we will have a stopover at the bakery. We have friends who are keenly waiting and are excited to see you."
Gavin knitted his brows together and asked, "who?"
"You already met Keira, this time you will also meet her husband, then the rest of our friends like Dr. Rui and Dr. Xander Yang…" Brione briefed. Gavin could not remember them at all but Brione reassured him that they were nice people.
Brione instructed his bodyguard driver to drive at Cali's baker instead and stopped there.
"This is our favorite pastry shop where you also love to hang out often…" Brione recalled as they stopped at the bakery. It was closed for that day but they saw Cali opening the door for them. They suggested visiting Gavin in his penthouse but Brione said it would be good if they were the ones to visit them at places that Gavin went before to help him remember things.
They went outside the car and walked towards the exit door of the baker. Inside, Gavin was greeted with new faces that he could not remember but at the same time, all of them looked familiar. Keira was the only one he recognized since she was also at the airport when he and Brione arrived.
Keira introduced him to her husband, Zach, who was also the country's field marshall.
"Welcome back Gavin," Zach greeted with a half-smile. "About your case, Brione's brother, Noah, and sister-in-law, Luo, are coordinating with me directly. I believe you will be receiving daily reports of how things are progressing," Zach said.
Gavin nodded and said with a smile and replied, "I'm really grateful for everything."
"It's nothing, you see, before you were the one always helping us out too. All of us are here because you helped us whenever you can so this is not that much. Besides, we are all willing to help you and Brione out no matter what." Zach added.
Keira elbowed Gavin as she interrupted, "stop saying thank you numerous times already. We are all blood brothers and sisters here."
"Bro, it's me, Xander," interrupted a man with a warm and cheerful smile, who at the same time, Brione introduced him as Xander Yang, Keira's cousin.
The man Xander wrapped his arms around his neck and wrestled him saying, "welcome back! I knew it, you're not dead! Too bad you can't recall us right now! How about I should hit your head once more or maybe ask my wife to crack it open to know what the problem is?"
