Chapter 121 - Being Biased
"Let me go first and pick up Calvin at mom and dad's place," Luo said as she sat up.
"Alright, Baby. I will stay with Gavin here. I need to discuss a lot of things with him," Noah said. He stood up and turned to Gavin. "I will just walk your sister-in-law out," Noah informed, to which Gavin nodded in response.
He grabbed his mobile phone to call Brione. "Are you on your way to the party?" Gavin asked.
Brione chuckled and replied, "Yeah. I'm on my way inside the car with Mitch and Berry."
"How about you stop over here? I want to see how gorgeous you look tonight." Gavin whispered with his brows raised.
"Well, how about I ask Berry to take a photo of me and send it to you later? It's better if you don't see, I might end up not attending the party." She chuckled.
"We're here now inside the car, Darling. I will come back home as soon as I finish my special number, okay? I love you." Brione said before she finally ended the call, not waiting for Gavin's reply since she knew that the phone conversation would not stop.
Gavin frowned while looking at his mobile phone. Oh, how he hoped he could escort his wife to that party instead. He sighed and then looked at Noah who had come back inside after he had accompanied his wife out.
"I'll get us some beers," Noah said before he went towards the refrigerator, grabbing two cans of beer.
"Here." He handed one can to Gavin before he went and sat on the couch beside him.
"What do you think of uncle Damiel?" Noah asked.
Gavin sighed and replied, "He gave me the details of the orphanage where he got me. We can get more information from there." He stared at the canned drink he was holding before he continued, "I really don't know Noah. At this point I still have my doubts. I can feel his sincerity towards me as his son and yet something is still bothering me…"
"Yeah, don't worry. We will look into it starting tomorrow," Noah reassured. "I know that all of us can't still believe that someone very kind and generous like uncle Damiel may be involved in that tragedy. He could also be the man responsible for what happened back then that's why it's always safer not to trust him yet. We basically must not trust anyone at this point, Gavin," Noah reminded.
Gavin sighed deeply before he drank his beer. Noah was definitely right. He was already planning to do the same. Just then he heard Noah chuckling which caused him to turn to look at the man in wonder.
"Sorry, I just recalled something," Noah murmured, he was trying hard not to burst into a fit of laughter.
"What scene?" Gavin asked in curiosity since Noah seemed to be elated just by recalling it.
"Well, it's about you… You were asking me for a drink and after doing so, you'll be pouring your heart out on me," Noah said with a chuckle. It was still vivid in his mind how desperate Gavin was at that time.
"Pouring my heart out? I'm probably drunk then?" Gavin asked in disbelief.
Noah could no longer help it any longer as he recalled the memory. He ended up bursting into laughter.
Gavin furrowed his eyebrows and mumbled with a pout, "What is it?!"
Noah tried to compose himself first before he replied, "Well, yeah, you asked me for a drink, and then when you got drunk, you ended up confessing your feelings to me instead of Brione. You told me everything since you thought that you were talking to Brione.
Man, you must recall those important memories where I almost punched you when you tried to kiss me! After I told you about it the next morning, you vowed to me that you will not drink beyond your limit again especially when you found out that you have the tendency to go haywire!"
Noah knew that Gavin had feelings for Brione for so long. He honestly admired how the man hid it for a long time just so he could maintain his good friendship with his sister.
"I bet you're just making things up since I can't remember a thing. If it really did happen, I highly doubt that it's that extreme. You probably exaggerated it a little," Gavin suspiciously said with his eyes narrowed at Noah.
"Are you implying that I'm lying huh?" Noah asked as he raised a brow.
Gavin gulped nervously when he saw Noah's dark look. "Of course not!" He exclaimed in his defense. "You know that I love you as my brother-in-law and I'm sure that you're not exaggerating. I can't remember any of what you said so how about we just keep it that way?"
He looked at Noah intently before he continued by asking, "How many beers did I drink that time? I need to keep myself sober, right? I need to avoid getting myself drunk."
"Yeah make sure you won't get drunk because you can really go all out Gavin. Also, how can you say you love me if you don't even remember anything about me huh? Look at you being biased." He chuckled jokingly. "But kidding aside, I am really glad that the man my sister chose is you. I can't trust anyone like how I have trusted you, Gavin, for my sister." Noah sincerely declared.
"Thank you for the support, Noah. I really appreciate this…" Gavin whispered with a smile before he offered, "Cheers?" Gavin smiled and gave him a toast of their canned beers before drinking it.
"By the way, do you plan to pick-up Brione tonight?" Noah asked.
"Yeah, I wanted to escort her but she said that Mitch and Berry will drop her off at the party instead. I have my men guarding her in disguise. I also asked Kevin for some trackers. I will give it to Brione later.
I will have the same as well. It's a couple bracelet with a tracker. I will add one in her mobile phone and watch as well." Gavin informed because he knew Noah was deeply worried for his sister so he planned to inform him about the countermeasure he was taking to ensure their safety.
"I guess I don't need to worry much. Luo and I will focus more on the investigation… Hopefully, we will be able to wrap things up soon. We all need to relax and have a good time together as a family after all this," Noah commented.
"Yeah, my father… I mean my real father, the King, wants to visit you too. He also wants to invite you guys to the Palace as soon as things are cleared up." He sighed.
"He also has a lot on his plate right now. You see, there's this problem involving the Prime Minister. His son was abducted and the person behind it is threatening the Prime Minister to fight my father. I feel bad for not being there to help him and support him. I need to finish and solve things up here as soon as possible."
Gavin did not mention the situation at country B in detail when they were discussing things back then so at that moment, he took his time to inform him with the rest of the details. He also discussed with Noah the possibility that this case could also be connected to Duncan.
"We must find that bastard as soon as possible," Gavin whispered through his gritted teeth.
"We will…" Noah seconded.
