Kill the Sun

Chapter 659 – Bluff

Chapter 659 – Bluff

“You do know this is a trap, right?” the emissary asked coldly. “As soon as we leave, he is going to attack us, and I can’t call Mistress Lust from in here.”

The Governor looked at the emissary with furrowed brows. “What are we supposed to do? I’m not a Suppressor, and you’re not powerful enough. Give me an alternative.”

The emissary remained silent for a while.

“There are no intelligent Force Specters,” the emissary said. “He ran out of power and is hiding somewhere in here. He wants us to leave so that we don’t find him.”

“He doesn’t have a physical body,” the Governor answered. “I covered the entire room with web, and he can still attack you.”

“Then, why did he stop?” the emissary asked. “If he just keeps attacking, he will be more convincing. There’s no reason to stop attacking to let us escape.”

The Governor turned to look at the mist in the room again.

He thoroughly scanned the entire room.

No, there was nothing.

“He is a Force Specter,” the Governor said. “I inspected the room closely, and I can’t find him. This is a Containment Unit, and there’s nowhere for him to hide.”

“Leaving is our only option,” he added.

The emissary didn’t react.

In fact, she was actually right.

If Nick could attack, he would.

It was important to highlight the difference between seeing something and perceiving something.

When the Governor had been looking through the Containment Unit after Nick’s first attack, he had seen Nick but hadn’t perceived him.

He had believed that the black mist was simply the remnant of the Meat Cube’s vanishing body.

Technically, he had been seeing Nick all the time, but he had not been actively perceiving him.

This meant that Nick’s ability had still been active.

Yet, as soon as the Governor actually started to consider that Nick might be a Force Specter, Nick’s ability deactivated.

After all, the Governor was now perceiving the mist as Nick, which was exactly what Nick was at the moment.

If Nick launched an attack now, he would be many times slower and weaker. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

The Governor would be able to counterattack and destroy the physical parts of Nick’s body.

On top of that, both of them would realize that Nick had become much weaker.

Right now, even if the Governor weren’t here, killing the emissary had become very difficult for Nick.

Because of that, Nick didn’t attack anymore.

He was bluffing.

“We have to leave,” the Governor said.

And the Governor was falling for the bluff.

Although, it was also important to remember that the Meat Cube had been killed and that the city needed a new Demon.

Just because the Governor was falling for Nick’s bluff didn’t mean that he was doing the wrong thing.

Nick hadn’t lied about Lust.

By falling for Nick’s bluff, the Governor was actually increasing his chances of survival.

“Fine,” the emissary answered.

The two of them carefully walked to the door, and the Governor opened it.

The mist inside the Containment Unit was slowly moving past them while the Governor kept vigilantly watching his surroundings.

All three of them left the Containment Unit, and the door closed.

“Where is your Major Relay?” the mist asked the two of them.

“Outside the city,” the emissary spoke calmly.

The Governor furrowed his brows.

“I never escort you out of the city.”

“I don’t need you to leave the city,” the emissary spoke. “I need you to enter the Meat Cube’s Containment Unit.”

The Governor looked with suspicion at the emissary.

Yet, he just followed after her as she started to sneak out of the building.

Surprisingly, she was rapidly moving between different doors and hallways.

Nick could immediately tell that the emissary was not used to leaving the building.

He had snuck into many places, and he could tell when someone was used to sneaking around or not.

This Specter definitely wasn’t.

The Governor furrowed his brows as he followed her.

He had already lost track of the mist.

Naturally, as soon as Nick left the Containment Unit, it wasn’t difficult for him to get out of sight and reactivate his ability.

Yet, he didn’t attack the emissary.

He didn’t need to.

He was in the right.

The emissary managed to sneak out of the building, but there were a couple of close calls.

After a bit, the emissary also managed to sneak past the city walls.

Just when the Governor wanted to sneak out of the city after her…

BOOOOM!

Something exploded between the Governor and the emissary!

In an instant, everyone around them looked toward this place, and several pairs of eyes saw the Governor.

The Governor could only narrow his eyes.

That confirmed it.

If the Governor immediately charged after the Specter, he would act like he knew about her.

The powerful Extractors knew what kind of Specter this was, and they would immediately want to know how that Specter escaped and why the Governor hadn’t stopped her until now.

Interacting with the emissary now meant becoming suspicious.

Because of that, the Governor had to act like he arrived here because of the explosion and that he didn’t know that the emissary was just outside the city.

Well, maybe there was a way, but the Governor needed to come up with a waterproof lie in a split-second, and he felt the risk of being exposed to be too high.

‘I should’ve prepared a lie beforehand in case something like this happened,’ the Governor thought in frustration.

The Governor was shocked and frustrated that he actually hadn’t done that.

Usually, he was so meticulous.

Sadly, the reason why he hadn’t was because he was human.

Humans had emotions, and sometimes, when something unforeseen and horrendous happened, a human subconsciously entered denial.

He knew that the emissary might try to escape, but he hadn’t been prepared for her to actually do it.

Accepting that this could happen meant accepting that the Meat Cube was dead and that their connection to Mistress Lust was cut.

That was a terrifying thought since the Governor’s life was connected to Mistress Lust.

“What happened here?” the Governor asked the people around him.

“Sir, we don’t know!” one of the guards shouted, looking at the destroyed building in front of them.

“Search for the cause!” the Governor shouted.

The Extractors nodded and scattered across all directions.

“I dealt with her,” the Governor heard inside his ear. “Come to me and meet your new Lord.”

The Governor furrowed his brows as he looked towards the southeast.

Something was calling him there.

Naturally, that was Nick.

The Governor took to the sky and flew out of the city.

It wasn’t suspicious for the Governor to leave like this since everyone was searching for the cause of the explosion as well.

Without anyone noticing, the Governor entered one of the lonely caves.

Then, his eyes widened in shock.

There was someone standing in front of him!

Naturally, this was Nick, and he carried the vanishing head of the emissary in his right hand.

When the Governor saw Nick, he could feel his power.

He was so weak!

At the absolute most, this was a Peak Fanatic. Most likely, it was a Late Fanatic.

Sure, that was strong, but the Governor was a Hero!

Even more, he thought that this Specter had been a Force Specter!

The next moment, Nick dropped the head and exploded into mist.

The Governor readied himself for a battle, but Nick turned back into his normal body just moments later.

The Governor had never seen anything like this.

This was a Specter that could switch between being a Physical Specter and being a Force Specter!

This shouldn’t be possible!

At this moment, the Governor had the power to kill Nick.

Without his ability, Nick wouldn’t even have been able to react properly before the Governor hit him.

But that didn’t matter.

The Governor wanted nothing more than to survive, and he could only rely on Nick for survival.

Without the help of someone more powerful than the Governor, Meat Cube City would fall apart, and Aegis would send an investigator.

At that point, they would find out about the Governor’s involvement with Lust, and the Governor would be executed.

He needed a backer.

The Governor took a deep breath.

“I will follow Lord Wrath,” he spoke respectfully.

“Smart,” Nick said.

Then, he gestured to the Major Relay in the back of the cave, and the Governor stepped forward.

The Major Relay activated by itself, and the furious silhouette of Wrath materialized in front of the Governor.

The Governor bowed in front of the figure.

“Lord Wrath.”

Wrath glared at the Governor with hatred.

“You are mine,” he said coldly.

“I am yours,” the Governor repeated.

The next moment, Wrath looked at Nick.

“What do you need?” he asked.

Wrath had noticed how amazing Nick was at his job.

Within fewer than ten years, Nick had already conquered several cities.

Such efficiency could only be matched by the very few Fallen servants Wrath had.

Wrath was no longer deciding what to do with the city but left the decision to Nick.

“I need a Demon that wants blood,” Nick said. “Do we have something like that?”

Wrath narrowed his eyes.

“I have a fitting one.”
