Kill the Sun

Chapter 633 – Human Servant

Chapter 633 – Human Servant

Nick could “see” a younger woman standing in the corner of the room. She wore a white uniform and had black hair.

While the remainder of the Containment Unit was filled with the pulsing red light, the corner had a small lamp with normal sunlight.

Naturally, the young woman had to be a human. Otherwise, there would be no reason for her to stand in the sunlight.

The CCO kept walking forward, and the woman watched him.

The woman had an intense aura, and she looked at the CCO with a mix of disdain and distance.

She obviously didn’t have a good opinion of the CCO, but she didn’t want to confront him.

“Bring me… food… please…” the tall Specter said with a pained groan.

However, the CCO put the cart to the side and approached the woman first.

“Please… food… I need… food…” the tall Specter begged.

The woman looked at the approaching CCO with narrowed eyes.

“Don’t you hear your mistress?” she asked. “She demands food. You should comply before she squashes you like a bug.”

The CCO just looked at the woman emotionlessly. “She is not a lucid Specter,” the CCO spoke calmly. “I could fill this entire room with food, and she wouldn’t be intelligent enough to use her hands to feed herself.”

The woman looked at the CCO with narrowed eyes.

“Is that a good or a bad thing?” she asked with a threatening tone.

“Please… food… I need… food… give me… food…” the big woman moaned.

“Humans,” the CCO spoke in a cold voice. “Always testing your boundaries.”

The next moment, waves of consciousness left the CCO’s Specter Core and entered the tall Specter’s Specter Core.

While the tall Specter wasn’t intelligent, this kind of communication could still be understood.

“FOOOOOD?! MY FOOOOOOD!!!!”

The atmosphere seemed to shake as the tall woman screamed in absolute hysterics.

The rhythmic red pulses of light became chaotic and disjointed, looking more like static.

Nick’s mist body shook, and he started to lose consciousness.

Nick’s ability was still active, and he was far away, with several thick walls between him and the tall Specter.

Yet, the aggressive shout still impacted Nick to such a degree.

He hadn’t even been the target of the attack!

Nick turned into his corporeal form before collapsing onto his knees.

‘Fuck!’ Nick thought as he gritted his teeth and grabbed his head.

The pain was quite strong. Even for somebody like him.

The screaming only stopped five seconds later, and Nick turned back into his mist form.

After regaining his faculties, Nick looked at the spot Containment Unit again.

The woman was on her knees, and her Barrier wavered.

There was no good way to deal with such an attack.

If the Barrier blocked the attack, it would lose a ton of Zephyx.

If it didn’t block the attack, the Extractor might die.

Luckily, Nick’s ability hadn’t deactivated at any moment, which meant that nobody had noticed him.

Although, trying to notice someone so far away while being bombarded by such an apocalyptic scream would be almost impossible anyway.

‘The Governor lost a majority of her Zephyx, but nothing else seemed to have been damaged,’ Nick thought as he looked at the cart with food.

The cart with food looked the same way as before.

‘This is a purely psychic attack with no physical power,’ Nick realized. ‘Anyone with a consciousness gets affected, but nothing else.’

However, the damage was absolutely devastating.

‘How powerful is this Specter?’ Nick thought as he looked at it.

‘It has to be a Mid Demon, at least.’

‘How long has this thing been fed in this city? Is Gluttony planning on letting this thing grow until it is a Fallen?’

In his life, Nick had seen more Heroes than Demons, but that did not reflect the true state of the world.

One should never forget that this world was ruled by Specters, not humans.

While there were probably more Newbies and Johns than Hatchlings and Adolescents, things changed abruptly at the third level and higher.

The number of Fallen was already over seven times higher than the number of Protectors, and there were over ten times as many Adversaries as there were Shields.

There were probably three to five times as many Demons as there were Heroes.

If one only went by the numbers, for every Hero inside a city, there would be three to five Demons.

The only reason why there were not that many Demons in the city was that a big chunk of them was contained by Aegis, and the majority of the remaining Specters were somewhere outside of the cities.

Therefore, it was not unusual to find a wild Demon inside a city.

The Governor was on her knees as she nervously looked at the CCO, who hadn’t moved in any way.

While the tall Specter wasn’t very intelligent, it was intelligent enough not to hurt its food source.

“Can we now cooperate for a couple of years without any boundary tests?” the CCO asked coldly.

The woman gritted her teeth and stood up.

“No,” she said.

The CCO narrowed his eyes.

“I will try again in six months,” the woman said. “You know that this is an unreasonable and unstable Specter. You will never know when it will go crazy.”

“You won’t always be Lord Gluttony’s primary servant.”

“At some point, you will lose your control over the Specter, and I will replace you.”

“Just wait,” the Governor said.

Nick was a bit taken aback by what the Governor had said.

Originally, Nick had suspected that the Governor might have developed a conscience due to her unreasonable hostility to the CCO.

Yet, she talked about becoming Gluttony’s primary servant.

‘Can humans even be servants of Specters?’ Nick thought.

After a couple of seconds of thinking, Nick came to a conclusion.

‘Why not? Humans are the most morally complex creatures in existence. There are many of them that would sacrifice 90% of humanity just for a bit of money. Many people are willing to kill everyone taller than them just so that they can be the tallest in a crowd of dwarves.’

‘Everyone knows that allying with a Specter is the stupidest thing a human can do, but greed still blinds some people.’

After dismissing the Governor’s threat, the CCO threw the food on the cart into the tall Specter’s maw.

A moment later, the tall Specter birthed another mushy and slimy brick of chocolate.

The Governor didn’t leave the Containment Unit.

Most likely, she was here to absorb the Zephyx being produced by the big Specter.

The CCO walked back and forth a couple of times, delivering several more carts of food and chocolate.

About 40 minutes later, the CCO left with the last cart of chocolate.

Nick followed the CCO as he left the cave and reunited with the CEO.

The two of them left the Containment Unit and went back to the big meeting room.

Naturally, Nick followed them, but he didn’t go into the meeting room.

Instead, he waited in front of it.

After a bit, Nick went to the door leading out of the grey part of the building.

About 30 minutes later, it opened, and the CZE stepped in.

Nick only needed to keep track of the CCO since he was the only one powerful enough to sense him.

Nick slipped past the CZE and exited the grey part of the building.

As soon as he entered the colorful candy world, his mood worsened.

This fucking mascot candy shit of Happiness Through Taste 😉 was really getting on his nerves!

Nick rapidly moved through a world of overly positive candies and left the building relatively quickly.

There were barely any Barriers in his way.

After leaving the company building, Nick moved along the walls of the city until he arrived at a seemingly random cave.

This cave did not have a Barrier, and Nick easily slipped through the cracks.

This was the home of one of the Johns of Happiness Through Taste ;).

Nick had seen the Extractor a couple of times.

This guy barely came home, making this the perfect place for Nick.

And even if the guy showed up, Nick would just kill him.

It would take days until anybody would come looking for him.

Nick went to the back of the cave and sat down.

Then, he lifted his right arm and began to focus.

Over the next couple of hours, he created a Greater Relay.

Finally, Nick activated the Greater Relay.

The big stone in front of the Greater Relay transformed into Wrath, who looked at Nick with enraged eyes.

“Why did it take you so long to contact me?” he asked.

“I investigated the city and already created a plan,” Nick said. “I know the identity and location of both of Gluttony’s servants, and I know who is involved.”

“I can strike at any moment,” Nick said.

“Then do it!” Wrath shouted.

“I need to know how to run the city and what you want from me. Also, I need to ask you a question.”

“Ask,” Wrath demanded with gnashing teeth.

“Does the rule that you are allowed to follow only one Corruptor only count for Specters, or does that also extend to humans?” Nick asked.

Wrath narrowed his eyes even more but didn’t answer immediately.

“Give me details,” he demanded.

Nick nodded and told Wrath what he had found out.
