Chapter 224: Chapter 224: Julian Faulkner Arrives

Eleanor Rhodes truly had no strength left, either.

This was the last thing she could do. She wanted to protect herself, and she wanted to protect Vivian Lowell.

"Eleanor Rhodes."

Wendy Wynn hadn’t left. She stood beside Eleanor, looking at her impassively as she slowly said, "You’re already in this state, yet you’re still thinking of helping someone else?"

Eleanor couldn’t be bothered to pay attention to Wendy, mainly because she genuinely had no energy left. She could only pick up small stones and throw them at Rachel Faulkner.

Rachel, who had already turned to leave, stopped in her tracks and glanced back at Eleanor.

"To think you still have strength left." A cold sneer flashed across Rachel’s lips. She looked at Wendy and said flatly, "As per our agreement, she’s yours. Handle her well; don’t leave any loose ends."

"Got it." Wendy nodded in agreement. Pulling a small knife from her sleeve, she crouched beside Eleanor.

"I’m telling you, don’t waste your energy. They’ll be leaving soon, and now it’s just the two of us here. I have to admit, you’re really something.

"I never expected that Henry Sterling would actually fall for you. Since that’s the case... if he isn’t mine, I don’t want him left in this world, either.

"Sooner or later, I will destroy him. As for you, you’re just even more infuriating!"

As Wendy said this, her tone was filled with pure malice. It was as if Eleanor had done her some grave wrong and she was seeking revenge. However, the reality was the exact opposite.

Eleanor still ignored her. To Eleanor, someone like Wendy was both pathetic and ridiculous—not worth wasting a single ounce of her precious energy on.

"Vivian," Eleanor called out again.

This instantly enraged Wendy, who pressed the flat of the blade against Eleanor’s cheek, gesturing threateningly. "Eleanor Rhodes! I’m warning you, if you try anything stupid again, I’ll—"

Eleanor finally reacted. Perhaps finding Wendy too noisy, she frowned, glanced at her, and retorted, "You’ll what?

"Wendy, you’re truly pathetic. Do you really think taking me out will change anything for you? You’re wrong. The Sterling Family’s influence in Aethelburg is massive. Frankly, they’re out of your league.

"And don’t forget me. The Rhodes Family is practically on par with the Sterlings. If you dare to lay a hand on me, do I really need to spell out how miserable your fate will be?"

"You!"

Wendy hadn’t expected Eleanor to threaten her back! Her pupils dilated slightly, and her grip on the knife actually faltered. Wendy had lost her nerve. She wanted revenge, but she didn’t want to doom herself in the process!

Meanwhile, Vivian watched calmly as Rachel’s men approached, struggling fiercely to keep them from dragging her away. Her stubbornness likewise infuriated Rachel, who walked over personally and yanked Vivian’s arm, only for Vivian to forcefully shake her off.

"Rachel Faulkner." Summoning her last bit of strength, Vivian dropped into a defensive stance. She stared at Rachel and challenged, "What do you want? The Faulkner Family’s money?

"Tsk. Grandma Faulkner raised you single-handedly, and she originally planned to leave everything she had to you. But look at you—what kind of foolish things have you done?

"Speaking of which, Grandma is very regretful now. Bringing you home and raising you was the biggest mistake she ever made. An adopted daughter... no wonder so many people in this world despise your kind."

Rachel hated it most when people brought up the words "adopted daughter" in front of her! In her eyes, Grandma Faulkner had always been biased toward Julian Faulkner. Grandma Faulkner had let Julian inherit almost all the shares of the Faulkner Family, and the remaining ones in her hands would eventually go to him, too. Compared to the family’s shares, what did the cash Grandma Faulkner possessed amount to?

They had all grown up together, so just because Julian was born to Mrs. Faulkner, did that mean he should naturally inherit everything? Rachel was completely unwilling to accept this!

Rachel sneered at Vivian. She lifted Vivian’s chin with her fingertips and retorted, "What right do you have to judge me? Aren’t you an adopted daughter yourself?

"Vivian Lowell, it doesn’t feel good to be abandoned, does it? The Lowell Family betrayed you, and in the end, they wished you were dead. How does it feel to pour your heart and soul into a family like that?

"You took revenge on them. So, by the same logic, why can’t I take revenge on the Faulkners? You shouldn’t have double standards, Vivian.

"Come to think of it, our experiences are the same. How about we join forces? I can spare your life. Once you go back, earn Julian’s trust.

"Swindle the Faulkner Family’s shares from him, and when the time comes, I’ll inherit them as his older sister. I can give you half. What do you say?"

Vivian scoffed inwardly. Even at a time like this, Rachel was still naive enough to think such terms could tempt her. How was that even possible?

Vivian and Rachel were, at their core, two completely different types of people. Vivian took revenge on the Lowell Family because they had never treated her as a real daughter. From start to finish, they had merely been using her. At first, they used her talents, and in her past life, right up to the very end, they had wanted her to sacrifice her life just so Shelly Lowell could keep living!

But the Faulkners weren’t like that. Grandma Faulkner had truly given her heart and soul to Rachel. As for why she hadn’t given the Faulkner Family shares to her? Rachel had been foolish enough to get pregnant out of wedlock to force a marriage into a wealthy family and coerce the Faulkners. Unless Grandma Faulkner had severe dementia, she would never give Rachel any shares. If Grandma Faulkner had, Rachel would undoubtedly become the next Felix Faulkner.

"Rachel," Vivian said, her expression shifting as she suddenly relented. "Alright, I accept your offer."

Rachel froze for a moment, perhaps not expecting Vivian to agree so readily. She then sneered, "And here I thought you loved Julian so much. I didn’t expect it was just for profit. You’re really something, playing my stupid brother for a fool."

"Not at all." Vivian shook her head.

She was only saying these things to stall for time. The phone call had already been made. As long as Julian could hurry over, they could catch both Rachel and Wendy in one fell swoop!

"However..."

Rachel stared at Vivian. The smile that had just been on her face vanished, instantly replaced by an expression of pure rage. She laughed coldly and demanded, "Did you really think I would believe you?

"You guys, get over here and take her away!"

For once, Rachel was smart. She turned around, dropped those words, and headed toward the cars first. Receiving Rachel’s command, the men in black approached Vivian once again.

Seeing this, Vivian closed her eyes briefly. Shoving two of the men away with her body, she suddenly heard the wail of police sirens!

The sirens grew louder and louder! Vivian knew instantly that Julian had arrived!
