Kicked Out, Flash-Married, and Now He Won't Let Me Go
Chapter 221: Going to Catch the Cat
Chapter 221: Chapter 221: Going to Catch the Cat
Caleb Quinn’s sudden mention of Henry Sterling was unexpected.
Vivian Lowell blinked, not quite understanding what Caleb meant by bringing this up so suddenly. Did Henry Sterling not want to see his rival, Caleb, appear in front of Eleanor Rhodes again? So he abused his power to send Caleb abroad? If that was really the case, Vivian Lowell would find it rather ridiculous.
Eleanor Rhodes naturally thought of the same thing. Her expression suddenly became a bit complicated. Furrowing her brows, she asked, "He gave it to you? What do you mean?"
Hearing this, Caleb hurriedly explained, "Mr. Eleanor, don’t misunderstand! Professor Sterling hasn’t done anything bad to me. He asked me about studying abroad this time, and it was my own choice."
He lowered his head. "Mr. Eleanor, I like you a lot, but I also know that you are outstanding and deserve someone equally excellent. I’m not good enough yet.
"But I will work hard! I also know that liking someone comes with a certain stubbornness, just like how you like Professor Sterling. Professor Sterling... Mr. Eleanor, I hope you can live for yourself and do what you truly want to do.
"Of course, if I come back in a year and you’re still willing to see me, I’ll continue to work hard!"
After saying this, as if afraid of receiving a negative response from Eleanor Rhodes, Caleb hurriedly turned around and said, "I’ll go help outside first! Let my part-time job start today!"
The door was quickly shut, leaving behind a room full of kittens, along with Vivian Lowell and Eleanor Rhodes, who looked at each other.
"He..." Eleanor Rhodes’s expression was slightly complicated. She asked, "Vivian, what’s wrong with him? So, Henry Sterling didn’t do this on purpose?"
Vivian Lowell shook her head and said, "I’m afraid not. It’s strange, really. There should be some conflict between Caleb and Henry Sterling. I don’t know why, but Henry Sterling gave the exchange student opportunity to Caleb. However, Caleb has the ability himself, anyway. It was his own choice, and he..."
Perhaps Henry Sterling and Caleb had reached some sort of agreement. Caleb chose the option of going abroad, which was better for his future development, and left a year for Henry Sterling to win Eleanor Rhodes back. In a year, Caleb would return and compete fairly with Henry Sterling?
"What the..." Eleanor Rhodes pouted, feeling that it was simply unbelievable for a situation that usually only happened in novels to occur to her. "The two of them didn’t even consider me when they did all this! But whatever, whether I agree or not is up to me. It’s not like I belong to whoever wins the fight."
She shrugged and said helplessly, "Right now, I just want to catch cats and build my own career! Vivian, I received a request for help today. After we finish the interviews later, let’s go catch a cat!"
"Alright." Vivian Lowell smiled and patted Eleanor Rhodes on the head. Her Eleanor had grown up. She was no longer the boy-crazy Eleanor of the past, and that was a very good thing!
At ten o’clock, Vivian Lowell and Eleanor Rhodes finished interviewing the two veterinarians for the pet hospital. They were highly satisfied with both candidates and processed their onboarding on the spot.
"The probation period is one month. After that, we’ll cover your social security and housing provident fund. The salary during the probation period will be eighty percent of your regular pay. Is that okay?" Vivian Lowell and Eleanor Rhodes laid out their terms.
Both veterinarians nodded, indicating their satisfaction. A probation period of only one month with an eighty percent salary was much more generous than those companies that had three to six months of probation and paid only seventy percent! Moreover, the starting salary at Eleanor Rhodes’s pet hospital wasn’t low either. Even at eighty percent, it was almost the same as their previous salaries, and the benefits were even better!
The pet hospital was spacious and fully equipped with sufficient medical instruments. Additionally, one of the doctors had a son who had just started elementary school this year. The boy loved feeding stray kittens and had seen Eleanor Rhodes’s rescue videos while scrolling through TikTok and Bilibili! His son treated Eleanor Rhodes and Vivian Lowell as his idols! He even said he wanted to become a doctor in the future to save small animals!
As it happened, this doctor saw that Eleanor Rhodes was hiring, so he immediately resigned from the small clinic where he worked and came here! When his son found out about this, he was overjoyed and said, "Once Dad has scoped out the place, I want to go and see it too!"
Looking at his adorable son, the doctor naturally agreed. Now that he had finally passed the interview, he could stay here and scope the place out! His son would definitely be thrilled when he found out!
Meanwhile, Vivian Lowell and Eleanor Rhodes immediately set off to catch a cat at a ventilation shaft in a residential complex.
On the way there, after Eleanor Rhodes messaged the requester to understand the situation, she couldn’t help but complain to Vivian Lowell, "There sure are a lot of kittens falling into ventilation shafts this year!
"This time, it’s an orange tabby, about three months old—right at that active and playful age. They said it’s been down there for two days. She dropped some food and water down, but she doesn’t know if the kitten ate it.
"She’s very worried and hopes that after we catch it, she can adopt the kitten herself. Vivian, look at the photo. That ventilation shaft is pretty deep, about eight meters!
"Our catch pole is long enough, but I just don’t know if this position is suitable for using it."
After Eleanor Rhodes finished speaking, she handed her phone over.
Vivian Lowell studied it carefully and couldn’t help but sigh, realizing that this operation would likely be somewhat difficult. The opening of the ventilation shaft was only thirty or forty centimeters above the ground. Even if a person squatted down and stuck their head in to catch the cat, the positioning was awkward. Half of the body would be suspended in mid-air, and coupled with the poor visibility inside the shaft, it would be dangerous.
"Why don’t we try using a trap first? This ventilation shaft looks a bit dangerous to me. If we tie a safety rope around you and use the catch pole, it’ll drain too much of your energy. It’ll be exhausting," Vivian Lowell suggested.
In the past, they had encountered many situations where they had to catch cats in ventilation shafts. They usually used catch poles, but that was mainly because the shaft openings were too small for a trap to fit through. The catch pole seemed convenient, but snagging a kitten was no easy task. After falling down and going without food or water for a few days, the kitten would be in poor condition and wary of humans. Any normal kitten would run away from an unknown object constantly approaching it! Using a catch pole required lying on the edge of the ventilation shaft and struggling for an hour or two, or even longer!
It was too grueling; a cat trap would save much more time and effort. Furthermore, the angle of this ventilation shaft was terrible, and it was quite a deep drop. If someone accidentally fell in, it would be disastrous.
