Chapter 2634: Nervousness As Home Draws Close

Chapter 2634: Nervousness As Home Draws Close

“You ruffian!” Unable to take her big sister’s bold remarks, Shang Liuyu turned her reddened face away and fled.

“What’s there to be shy about between sisters? Tell me more!” Shang Hongyu chased her, determined to fulfill her desire for gossip.

Shang Liuyu recalled what had happened last night.

After she morphed into her mermaid tail, Zu An had suddenly shared a fairy tale called ‘The Little Mermaid’ with her. In the story, a mermaid princess had saved a prince and fell in love with him. To be with him, she'd approached a witch to morph her mermaid tail into legs, only to learn that she had to trade her melodious voice for it...

It was such a sad story that it had made her tear up, but Zu An went on to say that the mermaid princess had paid such a heavy price for her legs; it was a huge pity for her not to show hers when she had them.

His argument had stumped Shang Liuyu. In the end, she'd turned her tail back into legs, and somehow, she'd ended up helping him the way he told her to... She could still feel the heat on her feet, and it made her face go red. How can I share something like that with big sister?

“Nothing happened!”

Upon hearing her little sister’s answer, Shang Hongyu got agitated. “How could nothing have happened? What did I tell you before? You should listen to me. You’ll regret it for life if something happens to him out there.”

Shang Liuyu chuckled. “There’s nothing to regret. Our souls are connected. I understand him, and he understands me too.”

“Sure, sure, your love is noble and pure. Only mine is dirty and lustful,” Shang Hongyu huffed.

“Big sister, that’s not what I mean.” Shang Liuyu grabbed her big sister’s hand to placate her. “Rather than satisfying him on the spot, I thought it would be better to give him something to look forward to. He’d have to stay calm when taking risks so that he can come back safely and claim the prize. Who knows? It might give him a boost of power in his time of need.”

Shang Hongyu suddenly felt jealous. “Sure, you’re the more charming one. He thinks about coming back to you to claim his prize even when he’s struggling outside. Hmph! You know how many women that philanderer has outside? He might meet a beautiful foreign woman in Dreamland and melt in her warm embrace. Do you think he w'd still think about you then?”

“Ah Zu isn't that kind of person. I trust him,” Shang Liuyu replied with a smile. “I might not be charming enough alone, but I’m not alone. I have you too.”

“What do you mean?” Shang Hongyu looked at her with confused eyes.

“I promised him that if he returns safe and sound, we could...” Shang Liuyu reflexively lowered her head as her heart beat furiously. I must have been out of my mind to make such a promise to him last night.

Shang Hongyu was stunned. Has my elegant little sister always been this bold? She soon remarked with a pout, “Why are you dragging me into your promise?”

“Are you willing or not?” Shang Liuyu grabbed her big sister’s arm and shook it around.

“Pui! I’m not a casual woman.” Images surfaced in Shang Hongyu’s mind and tinged her cheeks red. “Unless you properly beg me then.”

“I’ll have Ah Zu properly beg you.” Shang Liuyu lowered her head in embarrassment.

“No way. I want you to beg me instead. Who asked you to put on a lofty appearance? That just makes me look cheap in contrast. I never thought you would be this bold...”

“Aiyo, my big sister...”

“You aren’t going to change my mind. Be prepared to beg me!”

...

Meanwhile, Zu An was traveling to the human capital via Rainbow Morph. Along the way, he asked Mi Li about what happened. “Master empress, you’re more incredible than I thought. You sensed a universal deity’s descent and hid in advance.”

“You were so busy playing with the two sisters that you only remembered me now?” Mi Li teased. “I’m nowhere as incredible as you are. You were able to convince that reserved little mermaid beauty to do such things for you.”

That made Zu An remember Shang Liuyu’s delicate feet, which looked like sculpted masterpieces. He let out a cough and hurriedly changed the topic. “Master empress, do you think... that person noticed you?”

“She didn’t,” Mi Li replied without hesitation.

Zu An was taken aback. “Even an existence of that caliber failed to notice your presence?”

“The contract between us is a unique one. No entity aside from you can see me unless I reveal myself on my own accord,” Mi Li declared proudly.

“Then why did you hide?” Zu An expressed his doubt at her words.

“Your lousy brain could have thought about me at a whim and given me away,” Mi Li huffed.

Zu An smiled sheepishly. The universal deities' ability to read minds was a fearsome one. “Can they really read our minds? That makes it impossible to conceal any secrets from them, and no scheme can escape their notice!”

“You're a bold one to think about scheming against them!” Mi Li looked at Zu An with eyes of approval. “They are entities standing above the myriad worlds. It won’t be that easy to deal with them. You don’t have to be worried about their mind-reading ability. They won’t constantly read your mind. It’s similar to how you wouldn’t be concerned about what a roadside ant thinks.”

Zu An nodded in realization. So that mind-reading isn’t a passive ability. It needs to be activated. At least the other party isn’t reading my mind all the time. That’s a relief.

“Have you heard about Dreamland?” he asked.

“I’ve never heard of it,” Mi Li replied without hesitation.

Zu An asked, “...Unblind Zuoqiu said that Dreamland is famous across the myriad worlds, but you've never heard about it?”

“I told you I lost most of my memories. There are two possibilities. Either I used to know about Dreamland but lost that portion of my memories, or Dreamland didn’t exist back in my era.” The red-dressed Mi Li looked into space in a daze. It was hard to tell what she was thinking.

Zu An looked conflicted. “Master empress, you’re finally admitting you’re from another world.”

“Haven’t you already guessed as much?” Mi Li chuckled, not denying it. “But my world is intricately linked to yours.”

“Do you really have no connection with those entities?” Zu An asked.

“I don’t know.” Mi Li shook her head. “I’m not lying to you. I don’t know what memories I've lost.”

Looking at her downcast expression, Zu An consoled her. “Don’t worry, master empress. I've heard Dreamland can fulfill any wish. I’ll find the materials required to reforge your body there. You might regain your memories once you regain your body.”

“At least you have a conscience. Your mind isn’t just filled with thoughts of those women.” Mi Li smiled.

“Aren’t you one of them too?” Zu An murmured.

Mi Li’s eyebrows shot up. “What did you say?”

“Nothing.”

“Are you planning an uprising against your master now?”

“...”

“Hold on! What do you mean by riding your master? What the heck is in your mind?!”

“See, you can read my mind too. And you still say you aren’t related to that Mi Li.”

“You must be tired of living! What are you going to do if she really comes?!”

...

Amid merry chatter, Zu An soon arrived at the human capital. Now that he was about to return home, he suddenly felt nervous.
