Chapter 324: Wen Chan’s Final Choice
Chapter 324: Chapter 324: Wen Chan’s Final Choice
The Golden Armor Gu Insect in Yun Xi’s hand was a Golden Soul-Extinguishing Insect. This particular Gu Insect was even older than Dugu Ling. It had been cultivated with the very lifeblood of Dugu Ling’s master, who, just before their life came to an end, fed it a wisp of their own True Soul to finally bring the Insect Gu to its ultimate form.
Over a thousand years ago, when Dugu Ling’s master was cultivating this Gu Insect, a daily drop of fresh blood was just the beginning. For over a century, the cost of the Spirit Medicines and other Insect Gu it devoured was simply immeasurable.
To put it another way, the fortune spent cultivating this single beetle would have been enough to train a Martial Artist to the Half-Saint realm.
This Gu Insect was the equivalent of an Emperor among its kind. In its presence, ordinary Insect Gu had no choice but to bow and submit.
The God Slaughter Hall used the Insect Gu Technique to control people’s minds—a truly vicious method.
However, with the appearance of the Golden Soul-Extinguishing Insect and in Yun Xi’s capable hands, the Gu Poison inside Wen Chan could only be manipulated at Yun Xi’s will.
Although she had said it would take an hour, Yun Xi actually spent only half an hour forcing the Gu Insect in Wen Chan’s body into her mouth. Replacing it with a Biomimetic Insect, however, took up a significant amount of time.
After all, the Biomimetic Insect being planted in Wen Chan’s body needed to possess some of the original Gu Insect’s Skills and react to the presence of the mother insect.
Replication was a tricky business. Moreover, during the process, she couldn’t allow the original Gu Insect to leave Wen Chan’s body, or the members of the God Slaughter Hall who controlled the mother insect would surely find out.
Yun Xi had only been studying her art for four years, but it had to be said that everyone’s talents were focused in different areas.
And Yun Xi’s talent for the Medical Dao was even greater than Chu Fan’s for the Martial Dao.
An hour later, the Mother-Child Heart-Eating Gu inside Wen Chan’s body dissolved into a pool of bloody water.
After Yun Xi removed the Silver Needles from her body, Wen Chan awoke.
The moment she awoke, Wen Chan sensed a change in her body. She could clearly feel the Biomimetic Gu residing somewhere within her, but the menacing presence of the original Gu Insect was gone.
She knew then that her gamble had paid off.
Wen Chan performed a deep, formal bow to Yun Xi, a gesture of her sincere gratitude.
Yun Xi accepted her bow and said, "I’m honestly surprised. To think you could remain in a place of pleasure like this and still preserve your Primordial Yin. You’re quite a remarkable woman. I hope you will honor the agreement you made with my husband."
"Rest assured, my lady. I will not go back on my promise to Hero Chu," Wen Chan guaranteed.
"You have a natural allure, and I hope you don’t use your charms on my husband. Otherwise, I will show you no mercy. I can remove your Insect Gu today, but I can just as easily plant a far more terrifying one in you when you least expect it. When that time comes, don’t say I didn’t warn you," Yun Xi warned.
Leng Yingxue ranked first on the Hundred Flowers List, was the Palace Master of Piaoxue Palace, and had reached the Saint Realm. The fleeting romance between her and Chu Fan had even been orchestrated by Yun Xi’s four masters, so while Yun Xi was resentful, she had no choice but to accept it.
Yan Ying was the Empress of the Hua Xu Empire. She had known Chu Fan since his humble beginnings, staying by his side and offering him considerable help when he was at his most vulnerable. For that reason, Yun Xi had accepted Yan Ying’s place in his life.
But Wen Chan was different. Even though she was the Pavilion Master of Chaoyin Pavilion and a famous name on the Hundred Flowers List, she still operated out of a brothel—a place of pleasure—and her true character was a mystery.
No matter how magnanimous Yun Xi was, she did not want Wen Chan to become one of Chu Fan’s women.
"Please rest assured, my lady. I will never forget the kindness you’ve shown me today. From this day forward, I will feel nothing but admiration and obedience toward you and your esteemed husband. I won’t dare to harbor the slightest bit of greed," Wen Chan immediately pledged.
Yun Xi nodded. "Get dressed."
With that, she walked straight downstairs. ’That flawless, jade-like body she left behind her... what man could look upon it and not feel a stir of desire?’
’If that woman were to display herself in front of Chu Fan, could he possibly resist?’
Chu Fan saw Yun Xi coming downstairs and smiled. "All done?"
The moment she reached the bottom of the stairs, Yun Xi transformed back into the Guard she had disguised herself as and stood off to the side, clearly in no mood to acknowledge Chu Fan.
Chu Fan rubbed his nose in embarrassment and explained, "Miss Wen and I don’t have that kind of relationship."
"Hmph. I don’t want to talk to you right now," Yun Xi snapped, turning her head away.
Once fully dressed, Wen Chan came downstairs and again bowed respectfully to Chu Fan and Yun Xi.
"In half a month, report to your superiors that you investigated everywhere but couldn’t find out who made the move. In the meantime, I’ll have someone spread a rumor that it was the work of an Earth Immortal," Chu Fan told Wen Chan.
"How can I contact you in the future? And do you have any plans against the God Slaughter Hall that you need my cooperation for?" Wen Chan asked.
"You don’t need to contact me. I’ll find you if I need something. As for the plan against the God Slaughter Hall, try to get yourself transferred back to the Southern Domain within six months," Chu Fan said.
Without any further delay, Chu Fan and Yun Xi left Simurgh Pavilion.
They only had three days together, after all. As the saying goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Chu Fan and Yun Xi were only mortal; they were husband and wife in name and in fact, and they naturally cherished this brief, hard-won time together.
After Chu Fan and Yun Xi had gone, Wen Chan stood alone on the pavilion’s upper floor, gazing at the myriad stars in the sky, lost in thought.
She was stunned by Yun Xi’s beauty and shocked by her mastery of the Insect Gu Technique.
As a peerlessly beautiful woman herself, it would have been impossible not to feel a trace of jealousy.
But more than jealousy, she felt confusion.
She had certainly heard much about Yun Xi’s reputation since arriving in the Eastern Domain. Here, however, the stories circulating about Yun Xi only ever mentioned her beauty; anything else was described in just a few scant words.
In those rumors, Yun Xi was always portrayed as little more than Chu Fan’s Vassal. The most significant story was how Chu Fan had stormed the Celestial Derivation Sect alone for her sake, crashing the Saint Heir’s wedding, and then later annihilated the entire sect with his overwhelming power.
Having met her today, Wen Chan realized that the people of the Eastern Domain had severely underestimated Yun Xi.
Not only did she possess breathtaking beauty and a stunning figure, but her skill in the Insect Gu Technique had likely surpassed that of most experts even in the Southern Domain.
Furthermore, Yun Xi was only thirty years old, yet her Cultivation was already at the Divine Separation Realm. ’Could such a woman be considered simple?’
As for Chu Fan, he was even more extraordinary. Four years ago in Jianye City, his Cultivation had only been at the Divine Separation Realm. Meeting him again four years later, his Cultivation had become even more profound and unfathomable.
Hearing of Chu Fan’s deeds during her time in the Eastern Domain had left Wen Chan completely in awe.
’You have to remember, when Chu Fan did all those things in the Eastern Domain, how old was he? He was only in his early twenties!’
’At that age, the vast majority of the so-called chosen disciples from All the Sects in the world were still smugly living under the protection of their Sect elders!’
Wen Chan couldn’t help but think about what she had been doing in her twenties. Back then, she was the Saintess of Chaoyin Pavilion. Doted on by the Pavilion Master and all the Elders, she had looked down on all the other prodigies in the world.
’Maybe... just maybe, he really can defeat the God Slaughter Hall,’ Wen Chan thought.
’No matter what, Chaoyin Pavilion has to make a choice. If we continue down this dark path with the God Slaughter Hall, our Karmic Obstacles will only multiply, and I’ll forever be just a pawn in someone else’s game.’
’But Chu Fan is different. He’s capable, he has a vision, and he treats me with the respect I’m due.’
’My master entrusted Chaoyin Pavilion to me. I cannot lead it into an endless abyss. We will either save ourselves, or we will die a worthy death!’ With that, Wen Chan made her final decision.
