Chapter 320: First Hearing of the Universe’s Secrets

  • Next Chapter

From this day forward, Chu Fan began to multitask, splitting his focus three ways. He condensed a Spiritual Body to separate from his physical form and guide the three little ones in their Cultivation.

During the day, he practiced the Sword of Time, and at night, he used the Meditation Scroll.

After a few days, his progress was immense.

At the very least, while altering the time rate to the point where a hundred words could be spoken in an instant, he could now execute the first five forms of the Dream-Breaking Meteor Sword.

This seemingly small improvement was not to be underestimated; in battle, it could be the single most fatal blow to an opponent.

The Dream-Breaking Meteor Sword was already an incredibly fast Sword Technique. Combined with an altered time rate, Chu Fan could execute three or four of its forms in the time it took an opponent to utter a single word. What did that even mean?

In other words, by the time you’d even registered what was happening, before you could even draw your sword, Chu Fan’s Sword would have already completed three or even four Sword Techniques. How could anyone possibly defend against that?

With two days left before the ten-day deadline he had agreed upon with Wen Chan, Jing’an finished procuring all the available supplies. The remaining Spirit Medicines, it seemed, could only be obtained with a trip to Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain.

He placed the supplies into the Juntian Mirror World and left his Spiritual Body behind to continue teaching his two disciples, Wen Ang and Cailing, their Cultivation. Then, taking Bai Yun with him, he boarded the Space-Time Shuttle and hurried toward Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain.

The Space-Time Shuttle could cross ten thousand li in an instant; they arrived at Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain in the span of just a few breaths.

When the Space-Time Shuttle came to a stop in Peach Blossom Valley on Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain, it caused quite a stir. Nearby Demon Beasts surrounded it, treating it as a formidable enemy.

Only when they saw Chu Fan did they relax their guard.

The moment Yan Jiuxuan saw Bai Yun, a strange glint flashed in her eyes. However, Chu Fan merely assumed it was her surprise at seeing the Space-Time Shuttle and didn’t give it a second thought.

“King of Ten Thousand Beasts, it’s been a long time. I trust you’ve been well!”

Yan Jiuxuan smiled and said, “Indeed. Several years have passed since we last met. What brings you to Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain so suddenly today? And where is little sister Yun Xi? Who is this pretty young lady?”

“Yun Xi has her own opportunities. She’s taken on several masters and is currently learning from them. As for me, I’ve actually come to Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain today to ask you for some Spirit Medicines.”

“Her name is Bai Yun. Surely the King of Ten Thousand Beasts can see through to her true form?” Chu Fan asked, a little puzzled.

Yan Jiuxuan’s heart trembled slightly. She quickly pretended to scrutinize Bai Yun, sizing her up for a moment before exclaiming, “She… She’s a Nine-tailed Spirit Fox?”

“You’re so smart, big sister! Bai Yun is from the Spirit Fox Clan!” Bai Yun beamed, her eyes curving like crescent moons and twinkling with light.

“The Nine-tailed Fox possesses the noblest bloodline of the Spirit Fox Race. Although we have Demon Beasts from the Spirit Fox Race here on Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain, we have none from the Nine-tailed Fox Clan. I never expected that you, Chu Fan, would actually know someone from the Nine-tailed Fox Clan,” Yan Jiuxuan said in amazement. ℯℯ𝑙.

She then walked over to Bai Yun, took the girl’s soft, delicate little hand, and asked, “You must have already grown your fourth tail, haven’t you?”

“Yes, I have! But the fourth tail has only just started to peek out,” Bai Yun replied in a crisp, sweet voice.

“Bai Yun, why don’t you go wander around for a bit? This big sister and I have something to talk about.”

“Brother, you’re not going to do shameful things with this big sister too, are you?” Bai Yun asked, tilting her head back with a look of adorable innocence.

Hearing this question, cold sweat beaded on Chu Fan’s forehead. ‘This little girl, why does she only remember things like this?’

“What shameful things?” Yan Jiuxuan asked, not understanding.

“This little one is just talking nonsense. It’s nothing, it’s nothing,” Chu Fan said, waving his hands dismissively.

“Hmph!” Bai Yun pouted and snorted. “Didn’t you do shameful things with Sister Leng and Sister Yan? This big sister is so pretty, Brother must want to do them with her too… Mmph…”

Chu Fan hurriedly clapped a hand over Bai Yun’s mouth. ‘How can this little creature say just anything that comes to her mind?’

Yan Jiuxuan more or less understood what Bai Yun meant. She couldn’t help but roll her eyes and mutter, “I thought you were different from other men, but it turns out you’re just another fickle womanizer who tosses aside the old for the new.”

“Big sis, it’s not like that, okay? There were reasons for all of that,” Chu Fan hastily explained.

Yan Jiuxuan waved a dismissive hand. “Don’t explain it to me. It has nothing to do with me.”

Bai Yun, seeing Chu Fan’s glare, covered her mouth with a giggle and skipped away.

“Now that she’s gone, was there something you wanted to ask me?”

“I just wanted to ask about the Nine-tailed Fox Clan. This little one… I feel there’s something very unusual about her. The first time I met her was in the Desolate Land on Dingfeng Slope of Yunmeng Mountain. At the time, she had been injured by arrows from an Array…”

Chu Fan recounted the story of how he met the white fox, making sure to mention the several times he’d obtained significant opportunities thanks to her timely reminders.

After listening, Yan Jiuxuan clasped her hands behind her back, lifted her chin, and pondered for a moment before saying, “Do you know the origin of Demon Beasts?”

Chu Fan shook his head. He didn’t know much about Demon Beasts to begin with, and in front of Yan Jiuxuan, the King of Ten Thousand Beasts, there was no need to pretend he knew more than he did.

Yan Jiuxuan said, “In the beginning of the Hongmeng Era, when chaos first gave way, the Three Realms were established, giving birth to all things and all races in the universe. But in that age, the order of the Celestial Dao was not yet complete. Primordial violet energy was everywhere, and chaotic treasures were scattered across the heavens and earth. In that primordial era of countless techniques, by obtaining this primordial energy and these chaotic treasures, several major races rose to prominence among the myriad others. Perhaps blessed by the Celestial Dao, the five races—the Human Race, the Yao Race, the Elf Race, the Witch Barbarian Race, and the Demon Race—walked at the forefront.”

“But as time went on, these five races claimed more and more resources, and their populations grew ever larger. Gradually, within each race, hierarchies formed based on ability, creating various ranks and classes. Take the Human Race, for example; it was divided into the Divine Race, the Cultivation Race, and the Mortal Race. The same was true for the Yao Race. The Nine-tailed Fox Clan is one of the noblest clans within the Yao Race. In their most glorious era, the Nine-tailed Fox Clan was even capable of leading the entire Yao Race alongside Divine Beast clans like the Dragon Race and the Phoenix Race.”

Hearing this, Chu Fan was deeply shaken. This was all information he had never even heard of before.

Chu Fan had expected Yan Jiuxuan to continue, but who would have thought she would stop there.

“That’s it?”

“That’s it. The Nine-tailed Fox Clan was once one of the noblest clans of the Yao Race. Isn’t that enough?” Yan Jiuxuan said, her eyes wide.

“So you’re saying the Nine-tailed Fox Clan has fallen into decline now?”

Yan Jiuxuan nodded. “I don’t know the specific details myself. I only heard my master mention it once. It’s not just the Nine-tailed Fox Clan that has declined; the entire Yao Race has. I heard it was because of a great war in the Divine Realm. The Yao Race, Elf Race, and Witch Barbarian Race suffered the heaviest casualties. But if you really want to talk about it, the most greedy and scheming of all are the Human Race.”

Chu Fan didn’t know how to respond to Yan Jiuxuan’s words. After all, he had never had any contact with the Yao Race or the Elf Race.

“What about the Demon Race?”

“Gods and demons are irreconcilable. The Demon Race retreated to the darkest corners of the universe. If you ask anything deeper than that, I wouldn’t know. After all, I’ve been here on Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain since I was young, so my perspective is quite limited.”

After some thought, Chu Fan suddenly asked, “Do you think it’s possible that Bai Yun has inherited ancestral memories through her bloodline, which occasionally awaken? Or perhaps they awaken when she encounters something related to those memories?”

Hearing this, Yan Jiuxuan’s expression became a little unnatural, but she just shook her head and said, “I don’t really understand either.”
