I've Divorced Your Sister, Why Are You Still Here?
Chapter 96 - 91: Don’t Be Too Revealing
Chapter 96: Chapter 91: Don’t Be Too Revealing
Once you enter the workforce, you’re a grown woman. You have to dress like an adult.
Hearing she had to get a job made the girl’s heart sink a little. The truth was, she didn’t really want to find one. After all, once she started working, she’d have to move out of Xiao Ran’s house.
She would much rather keep making her videos than look for a job.
After all, it offered freedom. There was no boss, and she wouldn’t have to answer to anyone.
But she couldn’t say that out loud.
Her videos were still pretty average. She hadn’t reached the point where she could confidently tell people she was a content creator.
In reality, making short videos was a lot like writing web novels.
Many people considered it a frivolous pursuit. You could only bring yourself to call it your job once you were actually making money and had earned widespread recognition.
Otherwise, you’d be too embarrassed to even mention it.
Yan Xici knew she wasn’t there yet. She was afraid if she told people, they’d think she was crazy or just fooling around instead of getting a real job.
That’s why she had no intention of voicing her thoughts.
She knew that if she ever wanted to share her dream and have it be accepted, she first had to have something to show for it.
The girl quietly made a resolution.
’When I get back, I’m going to focus on making good videos.’
’I absolutely won’t slack off this time. I’ve even figured out what to film tonight. After we’re done shopping, I’ll take Auntie to the food street and film there!’
’I’ll do a foodie show!’
Nanjing Road wasn’t far from the restaurant. Before long, the car pulled into the mall’s underground parking garage.
As the car came to a stop, a drowsy Qiu Yuru opened her eyes in the back seat.
That’s how it is when you get older. Drowsiness comes and goes quickly, but sleep is always light.
"Oh, we’re here."
She said as she opened the car door and stepped out.
The girl quickly got out too and linked her arm through the older woman’s. They looked as close as a real mother and daughter.
Xiao Ran locked the car before looking at the two of them. "Alright, let’s head upstairs."
It was a little after three. Even though it wasn’t a weekend, the mall was still quite crowded.
The three of them took the elevator straight to the third floor, which was dedicated to women’s clothing.
They started browsing at the women’s clothing store right by the elevator. The mall was huge, with a wide variety of brands.
They hadn’t gone more than a few steps when they stopped in front of a boutique. A black dress on a mannequin in the window caught their eye; it was very chic. The style was mid-length with an especially smooth waistline, but its most unique feature was the neckline.
It was a square neckline, a design that makes the upper body appear slimmer.
It also looked elegant and professional.
Xiao Ran was immediately taken with it.
He turned to Qiu Yuru beside him. "What do you think of this dress?"
Qiu Yuru waved her hand dismissively. "This dress? Your mom could never pull that off."
For one thing, she was already forty. She could never pull off a square neckline like that.
Seeing his mom’s look of refusal, Xiao Ran couldn’t help but laugh. "What are you thinking? It’s obviously not for you. I’m asking if it would look good on Xici."
He thought the dress would be perfect for Yan Xici, especially for work.
Once a girl starts her career, she can’t dress too cutesy.
It makes you seem unprofessional. That’s why so many people opt for suits—they make you look sharp and competent.
All else being equal, someone in a suit will always look more professional than someone in a t-shirt.
Qiu Yuru was taken aback when she heard this.
’Well, what do you know! So it wasn’t for me!’
’That little rascal! Didn’t he say he was buying clothes for me? Why is he picking things out for Xici first!’
’But, I have to admit, the dress really would suit Xici.’
Just then, the girl noticed the two of them turn to look at her in unison.
Feeling inexplicably self-conscious, she pressed her lips together. "Why are you both looking at me?"
’Did I not wipe my mouth properly after we ate?’
At the thought, the girl subconsciously wiped her face. It would be so embarrassing if it wasn’t clean.
Her reaction completely cracked Qiu Yuru up.
’This girl is just so adorable.’
She walked over, took the girl’s hand, and pointed to the dress Xiao Ran had spotted. Her voice was gentle. "Look, isn’t this dress pretty?"
The girl followed her finger and saw the dress. It really was quite beautiful; the black dress looked incredibly elegant.
’I just don’t know if it would suit me.’
"Auntie," she said uncertainly, "don’t you think it looks a little... mature?"
"Not at all! This is exactly what young women like you wear. Trust me, go try it on. You’ll look absolutely beautiful!"
Even though Qiu Yuru was getting on in years, she still had an excellent eye for fashion.
In Xiao Ran’s words, she was one stylish old lady.
Just then, a sales associate saw the three of them admiring the dress in the window and hurried out to greet them. "Oh, ma’am, you have excellent taste! That dress is actually our celebrity feature this year."
She then pointed to a nearby poster, on which the actress Dilraba was wearing that very dress.
Her long neck, lovely arms, and fair, slender legs gave the dress an indescribable air of elegance.
Qiu Yuru gave the girl a confident look. "See? Didn’t I tell you? Now go on, try it on."
