New Novel - Read Here

The Deterrent Roar took effect!

The Venom Scorpions all blanked out for an instant. Though their skills still fired off, the power was considerably weakened.

Chen Shu's timing had always been absurdly good.

A second earlier or later, and the result wouldn't have been the same.

Bang bang bang!

The venomous tails stabbed toward the Scarlet Flame Dragon overhead, but the force was lacking — they didn't even pierce that rock armor.

The Slime couldn't contribute much right now. All it could do was toss out some control skills.

Ahead was marshland. With its weight, sinking would be almost instant.

And if it ran into that variant Silver-grade scorpion down there, they might as well start carving a tombstone...

"Chen Pi! Well done!"

Fang Si spoke up. Without that control skill, the Scarlet Flame Dragon would have definitely taken minor damage.

But in that very instant, everything went sideways!

A purple flash streaked through the air and shot straight at the Scarlet Flame Dragon!

And the angle was vicious — it was aiming for the dragon's unprotected head!

"It's out! Watch out!"

Everyone's hearts clenched. They hadn't expected the variant fierce beast beneath the marsh to be this cunning.

If that strike landed, the Scarlet Flame Dragon would absolutely take critical damage.

"Roar!"

The Frost Dragon, long on standby, let out a roar.

A deep blue frost spread across the terrifying scorpion tail.

Though it didn't freeze it solid, at least it slowed the tail down, buying them precious time.

Immediately after, a yellow figure appeared!

The Slime, gaze resolute, flew straight forward.

Bang!

The scorpion tail practically snapped — when had it ever experienced a collision with this thing?

"Awooo!"

The Husky was already in position, its various elemental skills aimed with pinpoint precision at the scorpion tail.

If they could remove its trump card, the Silver-grade Venom Scorpion's combat power would plummet.

The scorpion tail thrashed back and forth, clearly in excruciating pain.

Seeing this, the others released their attack skills as well.

In moments, that scorpion tail was heavily wounded, cracked and battered.

"Roar!"

The Frost Dragon was already waiting, seizing the retreating tail in a death grip.

With its immense strength, it prepared to yank it straight out.

The situation had reversed far too quickly!

Chen Shu and Fang Si exchanged a glance, both breaking into smiles.

Their chemistry was still there!

With seamless coordination, they'd neutralized the crisis in an instant — and even heavily wounded the variant scorpion below.

A massive scorpion, about two meters long, was dragged out and slammed heavily onto the ground.

Its body was a deep black, but the tail was still purple.

Clearly, its metamorphosis wasn't complete!

Bang!

Little Yellow could finally go to work. Its body leaped up and pinned the scorpion down firmly.

Then Little Yellow used Charge, running back and forth over the variant scorpion, grinding it into the dirt.

It just wanted to evolve — what did it do wrong?!

Fang Si said, "A'Ning, bring up the materials."

Lu Zhining nodded. Seven or eight scorpions were instantly controlled and dove beneath the marsh.

Moments later, dozens of herbs were laid out in front of them — all primary ingredients for brewing Black Iron-grade potions.

"Holy crap, that many?"

Chen Shu rubbed his hands, greed gleaming in his eyes. That alone was worth over ten million!

Fang Si gathered the herbs and placed them on the Swift Wind Sparrow's back.

Beside them, the variant scorpion was already deathly weak, looking like it was about to breathe its last. All it could do was watch helplessly as the treasures were carried away.

"Take it along. We'll slaughter it once it finishes evolving."

Chen Shu grinned. "And leave it to me alone!"

"'Nanjiang Bandit Single-Handedly Slays Silver Lord' — you think that's a catchy headline?"

Just then, everyone's expressions froze in shock, mouths wide open, all staring at Chen Shu.

"Ah! Yes yes yes! That face right there! I'm satisfied!"

Chen Shu raised an eyebrow and looked down at the scorpion. "Little guy, prepare to die!"

"Chen Pi!"

Fang Si swallowed hard and pointed into the distance behind him. "I think you should... turn around."

Chen Shu blinked and turned to look.

In that instant, his pupils contracted. With his Black Iron-level vision, he could see kilometers away —

A massive, jet-black scorpion was charging straight toward them, utterly berserk.

"Holy crap?! You fucking called for backup?!"

Everyone moved instantly, leaping onto the Swift Wind Sparrow's back.

Screech!

The Swift Wind Sparrow let out a clear cry and shot into the distance.

"The damn System screwed me over!"

Chen Shu patted his chest. It only said a variant scorpion was evolving — it didn't mention it had a parent!

Fortunately, the real Silver Lord hadn't been in its territory, or they'd all be in serious danger!

The Venom Scorpion Lord was absolutely enraged, smashing through countless trees as it fixed its death stare on the Swift Wind Sparrow above.

Because its offspring was about to evolve, it had specifically gone hunting for powerful beasts to provide meat for nourishment.

With its long-standing deterrent presence, no fierce beast would dare enter its territory.

It just never expected humans to show up!

"Sis Fang Si, what do we do?"

The Scorpion Lord couldn't reach them, but they couldn't pull away either!

Unless they could stay airborne indefinitely — but sooner or later they'd run into flying beasts, and that would be even more dangerous!

"Can't we fly higher?"

Chen Shu spoke up. If they just opened up the distance, the Scorpion Lord would lose its lock on them.

"No. Living Wood Swamp — you can't go high altitude here. You'll hit toxic gas currents."

Fang Si shook her head. "Just fly forward. We'll use other fierce beasts to shake it off."

Everyone nodded. At this point, that was all they could do.

"Stop chasing us! It was already like this! We'll bring it back once we've healed it!"

Chen Shu shouted down below, hoping the scorpion would give up.

"..."

The other four's mouths twitched as they all turned to look at him.

Did he even believe that himself?

He was literally grinding the Scorpion Lord's IQ into the dirt!

Sure enough, the moment Chen Shu's words left his mouth, the Scorpion Lord became even more furious — and more determined than ever to chase them to the death.

Just then, the variant scorpion's tail gradually transformed, shifting into a deep black color.

"Evolution complete?"

Chen Shu's mouth curved into a smile as the Husky bounded about, blasting its skills straight into the scorpion's skull.

In no time at all, the new Scorpion Lord was dead — a gruesomely mangled corpse.

"You can rest easy now! It died peacefully, no pain!"[1]

Chen Shu called out again. As he spoke, he showed the shattered head to the Scorpion Lord below...

The Scorpion Lord's eyes blazed crimson. Its venomous tail whipped madly, obliterating countless trees.

It had clearly lost its mind!

In all its years of living, it had never, ever seen someone this shameless...

[1] It died peacefully, no pain (死得安详,没有痛苦): The standard euphemism veterinarians use when informing owners their pet has been euthanized. Chen Shu uses this gentle, clinical phrase after brutally smashing a baby scorpion's head in, then shows the shattered corpse to the enraged parent while claiming it died peacefully. The dark comedy lies in the contrast between the soothing euphemism and the violent reality.
