Isn't This a Game? Why Are You All Cultivating for Real!
Chapter 381: What About Me Are You Dissatisfied With?
Song Jiulai was getting much sharper these days.
She quickly extracted the useful information from the System’s words. “You’re saying the master of this Cultivation Technique can use it to possess someone stronger than themselves?”
System: “That’s the gist of it. But these are just a bunch of Early Stage disciples from the Fierce Eagle Sect. What’s the point of possessing them?”
Song Jiulai stood there, chatting with the System for a moment.
The Liuyun Sect disciple was too intimidated to speak upon seeing a Cultivator of Song Jiulai’s caliber.
Song Jiulai bought a couple of random pills and left, still pondering. ‘That mental method is kind of terrifying. If you can possess a High-level Cultivator, why would you even need to bother with hard Cultivation?’
System: “There must be drawbacks. But it is a little strange. Why the Fierce Eagle Sect?”
Song Jiulai frowned. “Could they be from the Tianyang Sect?”
When it came to bizarre and eccentric Cultivators, the Tianyang Sect was the only one that came to mind.
All the Cultivators from there gave her a sinister feeling.
Besides, the situation with the Fierce Eagle Sect gave her a sense of unease.
‘I really have to go see for myself.’
It hadn’t been long at all since Jingque True Man was gone. Song Jiulai never expected trouble to stir up so quickly.
The System said, “Why don’t you go back and find some backup?”
Song Jiulai: “Who?”
The System answered matter-of-factly, “Zhai Xiaotian, of course.”
“Are you shameless? You’re really treating him like an unofficial member of our Longevity Sect?”
Admittedly, Zhai Xiaotian had been incredibly good to the Longevity Sect, but she would be too embarrassed to order him around like that.
System: “Something’s eerie about the Fierce Eagle Sect. I’m afraid you’ll get your ass kicked if you go over there. I don’t care if you get beaten up, but you can’t let my Energy Pool get damaged.”
Song Jiulai: “…”
‘What a heartless thing to say.’
Song Jiulai thought for a moment. “In that case, I’ll just change into the robes of the Ten Thousand Immortals Sect.”
That way, the Fierce Eagle Sect would instinctively steer clear of her, which would at least guarantee her safety.
With that, Song Jiulai left the Liuyun Sect and set off for the Fierce Eagle Sect.
However, she still sent a message to Zhai Xiaotian via Chen Miaomiao.
This time, however, she had a legitimate reason.
The possession-enabling mental method the System had mentioned was too bizarre; it wasn’t like anything commonly seen on the Yunzhou Continent.
Zhai Xiaotian was worldly and knowledgeable—perhaps he would know something.
After receiving the relayed message from the System, Chen Miaomiao chose a time to leave the Inner Sect and find Zhai Xiaotian.
Zhai Xiaotian was currently in the Mortal Area.
He had never been one to interact with mortals much before. It wasn’t that he looked down on them; rather, he subconsciously believed that as a Cultivator, his path was destined not to cross with theirs.
Now, however, he was discovering other sources of amusement.
For instance, those players had built many strange and peculiar factories in the Mortal Area.
One place in particular was a high-security area called the “gunpowder factory.”
Ordinary mortals were forbidden from entering, though some were employed to work inside.
The disciples of the Longevity Sect could somehow create terrifying weapons that even mortals could use freely, all without using a single shred of Mana.
Zhai Xiaotian had even tested them. With their sudden, powerful explosions, even a mortal could injure an unprepared Cultivator in the Early Stage of Qi Refining. A slightly more powerful version could even harm someone in the Qi Refining Middle Stage.
This was an utterly terrifying prospect.
So he often found himself wondering what exactly these disciples of the Longevity Sect were trying to accomplish.
“Senior Zhai, stand back a bit.”
In front of the gunpowder factory, a few players were covering their ears as they tested the power of a new batch of explosives.
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
A series of powerful explosions rang out.
Although the players had no real foundation on the Yunzhou Continent, so many had arrived, and many more were providing help from outside the “game.”
Technical documents and information were readily available everywhere.
Setting aside top-secret schematics, basic manufacturing knowledge was ubiquitous.
Add to that the Sect Master giving them free rein, with the entire county serving as their vanguard base.
Development was easy. While they couldn’t produce overly precise high-tech items yet, they had already built a crude version of a generator, which made manufacturing things like gunpowder even easier.
They had found the necessary ores and various resources all across the Yunzhou Continent.
And since these materials lacked any Spiritual Energy, they were usually left untouched.
Some of it had even been brought back by Qing Guo from the Xingshui Sect.
With resources secured, industrialization was only a matter of time.
BOOM—
Once the entire batch of gunpowder had detonated, shattered stones flew everywhere.
The gunpowder factory required a huge amount of space, so they had taken over most of the site.
The player Zhu Zhu ran over, covering her ears. “The power’s decent, I guess. So-so. I think they could use this to deal with First-rank Demon Beasts. It’s just not versatile enough. When can we start making things like gun barrels?”
Another player, Zhou Dafu, responded, “We actually have everything we need. If the inner bore of those things is unstable, we can just use Spiritual Energy to suppress it. I heard the two big bosses are researching other uses for the Thunder Stone Mine. Apparently, it can be used to revolutionize our firearms, allowing mortals to use Spiritual Energy weapons. When the Demon Beast Tide comes, even mortals will be able to go out and fight.”
Zhai Xiaotian knew about much of this because they considered him an insider.
Aside from the fact that they were “players,” there wasn’t much the players hid from Zhai Xiaotian.
They were already teaching mortals, so what was the big deal if Zhai Xiaotian found out?
Upon hearing this, Zhai Xiaotian stared intently at the gunpowder in the distance. “Thunder Stone Mine… that unstable ore… can be used by mortals?”
This wasn’t the first time he had heard of the Thunder Stone Mine.
He knew that the Feique Sect possessed a Thunder Stone Ore Vein.
But to think that this material, which he had always considered exceptionally troublesome to refine, could have such an ingenious application.
“Theoretically, yes,” Zhu Zhu said, scratching her head. “It’s still under research.”
They knew they couldn’t speak about the Thunder Stone Treasure, but because the material loss during its refinement process was still too high, many of the low-grade Thunder Stone Ores were now being set aside for other research.
Zhai Xiaotian looked at them thoughtfully. “You want mortals to be able to go out and fight as well?”
“Yeah, of course,” said Zhou Dafu, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. “We can’t just let them be trapped here forever. Once they can handle demon beasts, we’ll clear the nearby roads. Then, if mortals run into a demon beast by accident while they’re out, they’ll have the means to defend themselves and be able to travel freely.”
Zhai Xiaotian was taken aback.
Having spent so much time in Wang’an County, he was beginning to glimpse the terrifying future hidden beneath the players’ various outrageous behaviors.
“Senior Zhai.”
Chen Miaomiao’s voice came from behind him. Zhai Xiaotian had already sensed her approach, so he wasn’t surprised.
He turned his head. “What is it?”
Chen Miaomiao said respectfully, “May we speak in private? The Sect Master asked me to deliver a message to you.”
Zhai Xiaotian nodded.
In the blink of an eye, the two of them vanished from where they stood.
Zhu Zhu and Zhou Dafu perked up their ears, their voices tinged with envy. “The Sect Master? I’ve been playing this game for a while and I’ve never even seen the Sect Master.”
The System chimed in at the perfect moment, “What’s there to see? Isn’t having me enough for you? In what way have I left you unsatisfied?”
Zhu Zhu and Zhou Dafu: “…”
