Chapter 176: Chapter 176: Curses Don’t Work on Her

She didn’t deliver a killing blow. She bypassed them and continued toward the village.

Wen Yuchu carefully avoided the pits on the ground, following behind Shi Zhile.

"Why didn’t you kill them?"

Shi Zhile didn’t feel like dealing with him right now.

She had a theory—a theory connecting the black mist, the sacrifices, and the offerings.

If she killed these people herself, she wouldn’t be able to test her theory using them as subjects.

The village was even quieter at noon than it had been at night.

The little Japs who had fled were hiding somewhere unknown. The empty, dilapidated mud houses looked especially pathetic.

Shi Zhile didn’t go to the beach. Instead, she returned to the room she had stayed in the day before, took out some fruits and vegetables from her storage space, and started crunching away.

The sun was high in the sky. Before long, Shi Zhile received a video call from Shi Zhiyi.

"Lele, we caught a lot of fish at the beach. We’re planning to grill them in a bit. You should come join us."

Shi Zhile let out a burp, then took out a few tomatoes and eggs. "Okay, I’ll be right there."

Wen Changming’s voice came from off-camera. "Is that young man with you still alive? If he is, bring him along to eat with us."

Shi Zhile glanced at Wen Yuchu, asking with her eyes if he wanted to go.

Wen Yuchu didn’t hesitate. He shouted at the camera, "Still alive! Since you’ve so graciously invited me, I won’t be polite."

After hanging up, the two of them walked side by side toward the beach.

Passing through the woods, they could see the players gathered at the beach from a long way off.

Shi Zhile, who was carrying the eggs and tomatoes wrapped in her jacket, did a rough headcount. "No wonder they weren’t in the village. They all ran off to the beach."

Wen Yuchu said, "You ripped off all their doors. Even if they wanted to hide, they’d need a place to do it. Compared to the gloomy mud houses in the woods, the sunlit sea must seem much safer."

The sand was littered with white bones, which the little Japs carefully avoided while gathering seashells.

Shi Zhile thought for a moment, then without the slightest hesitation, bent down and picked up a piece of bone.

She was so fast that Wen Yuchu couldn’t stop her in time. 𝑓𝑟ℯℴ𝓂

"You..."

The instant her fingers touched the bone, a cloud of black mist drifted out of it. It climbed up her fingertips to her palm and burrowed inside in a flash.

An icy presence traveled through her limbs, and a violent rage began to brew in her mind.

Shi Zhile placed the jacket-wrapped eggs and tomatoes on the ground. As she stared at the sneaky-looking little Japs ahead, an impulse to tear them to shreds rose in her mind.

’Kill!’

’Kill them!’

’Rip them apart! Let them know what it feels like to be dismembered!’

’Kill!’

’Kill everyone who isn’t from Huaxia!’

’Outsiders can’t be trusted!’

’Kill them all!’

Her axe suddenly appeared. Shi Zhile silently tightened her grip, a bizarre smile spreading across her face uncontrollably.

The violent fire seemed to burn from the depths of her heart all the way to her head. But before she could act, the black mist shot back out from her fingertips and dissipated into the air.

Shi Zhile: "..."

The smile she had just been cultivating froze for a second. She then held the expression, discreetly rotating her wrist and carefully sensing the changes in her body. The final conclusion was—

’The curse has no effect on me.’

To be more precise, the curse is ineffective against Huaxia people.

She had noticed it yesterday. Zhiyi’s survival tip mentioned the bones but not the black mist.

’Since the bones are their life-saving weapons, does that mean the black mist is also harmless to them?’

Combining this with the strange stone statue outside the village, kneeling and being offered human bones, it wasn’t hard to guess the origin of the bones.

She had once told Jiang Yuxing about the little Japs slaughtering Huaxia people. Given Jiang Yuxing’s convoluted personality, there was no way he would create an instance that let people die so easily.

Although the method to clear the instance offered a malicious choice, it still counted as torturing the devils. Regardless of his intentions, Shi Zhile, who had yet to face any danger herself, found it quite satisfying to watch.

But guessing the answer was useless. The way to clear the instance couldn’t be that simple. Someone would have to die to complete the sacrifice.

Wen Yuchu, who had been standing beside her, had darted away the moment Shi Zhile touched the bone. He stared at her warily, his gaze sweeping over her axe, a deep sense of dread in his eyes.

’A weapon below Level Three would be manageable, but this is a fucking Level Five Mountain Splitting Axe. I’d probably be cleaved in two before I even got close to her.’

When he saw Shi Zhile look over, he took two more steps back.

Shi Zhile resisted the urge to roll her eyes. After confirming that he hadn’t noticed the black mist leaving, she began walking stiffly toward the little Japs, one deliberate step at a time.

’The tip said that touching the bones would get you cursed. By that logic, I’m now cursed.’

As she walked, she listened carefully, but that CRACKING sound didn’t appear. As she drew nearer, the closest little Japs all went on alert.

Shi Zhile ignored them and bent down to pick up a large seashell at her feet.

"W-what you want do?"

They had been thoroughly terrified by Shi Zhile chasing them with her axe. Seeing the smile on her face and the bone in her hand, a chill ran down their spines.

’The Huaxia people really do know witchcraft! Why else would the curse from touching the bone not work on her?’

Shi Zhile pointed deep into the forest. The moment he looked away, she quickly tossed the bone onto him.

The instant it made contact, an enormous, frigid mass of mist drilled into his body.

He went berserk and attacked the player next to him. The closest player was unfortunately caught. With a single-handed yank, another perfectly good arm was ripped off.

Thankfully, the cursed players didn’t have a habit of gnawing the flesh from the arms.

Watching the little Japs scatter, Shi Zhile’s smile reached her eyes.

’See!’

’They’re all a bunch of fools who never learn. I just screwed them over at the altar, and they’ve already forgotten.’

’It’s one thing not to run when I approach, but they actually dared to gather around and watch the show. They must have a death wish.’

With everyone gone, Shi Zhile picked up her eggs and tomatoes, sat down cross-legged, and obediently waited for Shi Zhiyi to return.

While waiting, she casually picked up another bone. "Why can’t I use my backpack? If I could take out the food from my pack, I could make tomato and beef brisket, cumin beef, scallion and egg pancakes, pan-fried pork belly, braised pork ribs, and stewed noodles with green beans."

Wen Yuchu walked over. "Don’t you have tomatoes?"

Shi Zhile sighed. "But the beef, pork, ribs, and seasonings are all in the backpack.

My sister is an amazing cook. Especially meat dishes like cumin beef and braised pork ribs—they’re a true feast for the senses.

The sweet and sour pork ribs are delicious too, so sweet and tangy and incredibly appetizing.

And her egg pancakes are so springy and fragrant. Add a handful of scallions, and they’re so good you could die. A hundred times better than anything Jiang Yuxing makes.

Chuyi, do you want some?"

"Yes!"

Wen Yuchu: "...Who?"

Shi Zhile looked at him. "Do *you* want some?"

Wen Yuchu’s expression was blank as he stared calmly out at the sea.

Shi Zhile: "How many forms do aliens have? Is this a clone, or have you possessed someone?"
