Chapter 154: Chapter 154: The Players of Golden Island

Back on Stone Island, Mr. Wen rushed to transplant the Strawberry Seedlings into the Planting Space.

Just then, Shi Zhile received a video call from Jiang Jing.

On the other end of the call was Jiang Jing, his face etched with exhaustion.

"The base was attacked by monsters last night. Thank goodness you warned us. If we hadn’t prepared in advance, the base we just built would have been destroyed."

Shi Zhile asked, "What Level were the monsters that attacked Huaxia Base yesterday?"

"There were Level Three sharks, Level Four octopuses, and Level Five mermaids. There were a lot of them. Most of the players joined the fight, and we killed over twenty in total."

How many?!

Shi Zhile couldn’t believe her ears. From her brief visit last time, she knew Huaxia Base was developing well.

But killing over twenty monsters in a single night was far beyond just "well."

Seeing the shocked look on Shi Zhile’s face, Jiang Jing managed a faint smile.

"It’s not as impressive as it sounds. The monsters have tough hides and are hard to kill, but we Huaxia Soldiers are no pushovers."

"Our biggest weakness is our weapons. If they were just one level higher, we could have killed more monsters and suffered far fewer casualties."

Thinking of the troublesome Level Four Octopus he mentioned, Shi Zhile understood.

The octopus’s Level might be lower than the mermaid’s, but its tentacles have incredibly strong suction. Once it’s on shore, its indiscriminate attacks are far more destructive than the mermaid’s.

Jiang Jing continued, "I’m calling you for two reasons. First, to thank you for the warning. Second, I was hoping to trade for some healing medicine."

Too many players were injured in yesterday’s battle, and the base’s medical supplies aren’t enough. If we wait any longer, their Life Value will hit zero.

Without hesitation, Shi Zhile sent him all her Python Meat, along with 100 coconuts.

"Python Meat restores 20 points of Life Value, and so does one coconut. As for actual healing medicine, just a moment. I’ll get some for you."

After ending the call, Shi Zhile went to Jiang Yuxing and got a good amount of anti-inflammatory medicine from him.

At 6:00 PM, Shi Zhile began preparing dinner.

She stir-fried the hot pot base until it was fragrant, then added water. She also washed a variety of greens and set them aside.

There were a lot of people, so vegetables and seafood wouldn’t be enough. She pulled a fat rabbit out of her Planting Space to supplement the meal.

Around 6:30, Shi Zhiyi and Wen Bai woke up one after the other.

It was still early, so the two patrolled the area around the shelter. Once they confirmed there were no hidden dangers, they returned inside.

They were heading to Golden Island that night, so they had an especially early dinner.

They called over Jiang Yuxing and Wang Peng, and dinner officially began.

Nearing 8:00 PM, the group set off for Yellow Sand Island. Elder Wen, worried about the crops in the fenced garden, chose to stay behind and stand guard.

The five of them shared a boat. Along the way, Shi Zhile cast her net a few times. The fish didn’t disappoint, practically leaping into it.

Under the cover of darkness, the group successfully landed on Golden Island.

The sand was soft beneath their feet. In the moonlight, they could faintly see it shimmer with a golden glow.

Shi Zhile took out a torch, crouched down, and grabbed a handful of sand to examine it. "It’s just sand, not gold," she said. "But since this is Golden Island, there has to be gold somewhere."

Wang Peng said, "Sister Zhile, you didn’t actually come here looking for gold, did you? Gold is worthless in this game. You can’t even trade it for a bottle of water."

Shi Zhile simply smiled without a word.

’Gold’s value isn’t just in trade,’ she thought. ’It has industrial applications.’

’All sorts of electronic chips in the real world use gold, not to mention its applications in aerospace, medicine, and more.’

’The island hasn’t sunk, which means its player is still alive.’

To avoid being ambushed by the local player and to search for supplies more quickly, they split into two teams.

Shi Zhiyi and Wen Bai formed one team, while Shi Zhile, Jiang Yuxing, and Wang Peng formed the other.

One team would search the west side of the island for supplies, and the other would search the east.

Shi Zhile’s team of three headed east. By the flickering torchlight and the pale moonlight, the island seemed completely deserted.

On the far eastern shore of the island, a few lone coconut trees stood, bearing three or four coconuts.

Shi Zhile pulled out her axe, but before she could use it to knock down the coconuts, Wang Peng kicked the tree.

The tree trembled, and the coconuts wobbled precariously. Finally, one dropped, digging a small crater in the sand.

He picked up the coconut, gave it a shake, and handed it to Shi Zhile. "See? Kicking it works too. No need to chop the whole tree down."

Shi Zhile’s mouth twitched. She took the coconut from him, then casually collected all the coconut trees into her Planting Space.

Jiang Yuxing looked at Wang Peng, his face expressionless. "Ever consider that her axe wasn’t for the tree?"

"Then what’s it for?"

A wicked smile spread across Shi Zhile’s lips. She raised her axe and advanced on Wang Peng step by step. "For killing people, of course! And specifically, for killing JDs."

Wang Peng’s hair practically stood on end. From up close, Shi Zhile could clearly see the goosebumps erupt on his skin.

Her smile unwavering, Shi Zhile walked past him and toward a patch of bushes.

As she drew near, the bushes rustled, and a short man scrambled out.

He spoke in heavily accented Chinese, waving his hands frantically. "Wait a minute! I’m not a JD! I’m an exchange student, here to study in Huaxia!"

Shi Zhile didn’t hesitate. She swung the axe. The man fell backward, and the blade slammed into the ground right between his legs.

He immediately started screaming in terror.

Shi Zhile pulled back her axe in disgust and laid the blade against his neck. "Hand over all your supplies if you want to live."

"You do bad things! You Huaxia people are very, very bad! AHHH!!! Please don’t kill me! I’ll give you my supplies, please, you must not kill me!"

He started pulling out his supplies one by one—some were treasure chests, others were raw, cured sea fish.

Though he was begging for his life, the hatred in his eyes was impossible to hide.

His movements grew slower and slower. With a sudden exertion of force from Shi Zhile, his bloody head rolled to the ground.

After making sure the corpse couldn’t reattach its head, Shi Zhile dismembered the body and threw the pieces into the sea.

When she turned back, she was met with Wang Peng’s look of disbelief. "You..."

Shi Zhile flicked the blood from her axe in distaste. "What?"

"You didn’t ask him where the gold is?"

Shi Zhile continued to wipe her axe clean, looking up at Wang Peng as if he were an idiot.

She spoke flatly, "We can find the gold anytime. It’s not every day you get the chance to meet a Jap and kill him."

"You two are aliens. Have you ever studied the history of us Huaxia people?"

"We Huaxia people have an eternal and irreconcilable blood feud with these short, ugly Japs."

"In the 1937 Nanjing Massacre, they slaughtered nearly everyone in the entire city. They fried children alive, tortured and killed women and children, and turned murder into a game. They committed atrocities that even an animal wouldn’t."

"In total, they killed over 35 million of our Huaxia people. There isn’t a single province that doesn’t have people who died at their hands."

"So, you tell me. Compared to gold, which do you think is more important?"

The two of them said nothing, silently surveying their surroundings.
