Chapter 149: Chapter 149: The Octopus Attacks Here

’If their physical bodies aren’t in the game, would killing the two of them have any consequences?’

The thought had just surfaced when she immediately dismissed it.

’They couldn’t die yet. They were the only interstellar people she could contact, and also the only players who owned a high-tech bathing cabin.’

’The bathing cabin vanishing from the shelter out of thin air was the best proof that the item didn’t belong to the game.’

’She had a bold theory: could the bathing cabin be Jiang Yuxing’s vital link to the interstellar?’

Snapping out of her deep thoughts, Shi Zhile’s gaze on Jiang Yuxing grew even more intense.

’If her theory was correct, could she have a chance to go to the interstellar world and destroy this so-called game?’

Her stare grew so scorching it was hard to ignore.

Jiang Yuxing could no longer pretend to be asleep. He slowly opened his eyes, and the first thing he saw was the green glint in Shi Zhile’s.

For the first time, he felt like prey being targeted by a predator.

Shi Zhile poked his face again, her finger lingering on his skin. "Jiang Yuxing, this face of yours is truly handsome."

Jiang Yuxing grabbed her hand. His voice was deep and pleasant, with a bewitching quality. "You like it?"

"I do!"

’She liked his supplies, and she liked the energy he carried.’

’If they got out of the game, he’d be a walking goldmine!’

’All those abundant supplies and money! How could she not like that!’

Jiang Yuxing held her hand and continued to rest with his eyes closed, but the corners of his lips uncontrollably curled into a slight smile.

Shi Zhile smiled too.

’Men! No matter when or where, their narcissistic nature never changes.’

The large ship arrived near Stone Island. From a distance, all that could be seen was a giant white mushroom growing out of the sea.

Shi Zhiyi hurried onto the deck. Seeing Jiang Yuxing still holding Shi Zhile’s hand, she pulled it away with a blank expression and woke up the drowsy Shi Zhile.

At the same time, Jiang Yuxing also opened his eyes, which were clear and showed no trace of sleepiness.

"Lele, that place surrounded by white mist is Stone Island, right? What did you do?"

Shi Zhile took a sip of cool water and forced herself to wake up a bit. "The shelter is upgrading. I just don’t know why, but the white mist has spread across the entire island.

The white mist appears every time the shelter upgrades. I’m guessing the mist is some kind of energy. The more mist there is, the more energy there is. All in all, it’s not a bad thing, so we don’t need to worry about it for now."

"How long does the upgrade take?"

Shi Zhile checked the time. "12 hours. It’s 1 AM now, so it’s been upgrading for six hours already.

This is prime time for monsters to appear. The higher the shelter’s Level, the higher the Level of the monsters we’ll encounter.

Sis, we can’t get on the island right now. To be safe, let’s go rest in the space for the night."

She had been busy trading supplies all day and hadn’t been able to rest. Coupled with her excessive consumption of spiritual power, she was now exhausted and sleepy, with no energy left to stay up.

Shi Zhiyi ruffled Shi Zhile’s hair, her tone softening. "If you’re tired, you go into the space and rest first. Wen Bai and I rested well during the day, so we can use the night to observe some Advanced monsters."

"But what if a Level Six monster shows up..."

Shi Zhiyi cut her off. "Lele, it’s only going to get more dangerous in the future. When the regions finish merging and word about your space gets out, we’ll have more than just monsters to deal with.

Compared to players who have completely lost their humanity, monsters are much safer. Don’t worry, go back and rest. If anything happens, I’ll video call you."

Shi Zhile yawned. Jiang Yuxing spoke up again, "Let’s go. Wang Peng will stay on the ship. He’ll notify us if anything happens."

As the two of them disappeared, the smile on Shi Zhiyi’s face vanished as well.

She glanced at the evenly breathing Wang Peng, then returned to the control room without looking back.

She relayed what Shi Zhile had said. After listening, Wen Bai withdrew his Spirit Value, and the large ship came to a stop outside the waters of Stone Island.

"What’s wrong? You’ve been radiating cold air ever since you got back. Anyone who didn’t know better would think you turned on your cooling mode."

Shi Zhiyi ignored Wen Bai’s teasing and said grimly, "Something’s not right with that Jiang Yuxing around Lele."

Wen Bai raised an eyebrow. "You think something’s not right with him just because your precious little sister likes the guy?"

He was a little jealous. For the twenty-odd days they were in the instance, Shi Zhiyi only had eyes for her sister, not him. What was worse, she sometimes completely forgot he even existed.

It was even worse after they left the instance. She’d ask if Shi Zhile was eating properly for all three meals a day, completely ignoring him, her actual boyfriend.

Shi Zhiyi frowned, sitting in her chair and tapping incessantly on the tabletop.

"You think Lele likes him?"

Wen Bai said, "I don’t know, but Jiang Yuxing definitely likes Shi Zhile. Actually, it’s not just you who thinks something’s off with him. I get that feeling too, especially from Jiang Jing’s attitude toward him. It’s vigilant and wary, and that wariness is of the highest level.

Shi Zhile, Elder Wen, and Jiang Jing must be hiding something important from us, and it has to do with Jiang Yuxing."

Shi Zhiyi rubbed her temples and leaned back in her chair to rest. "Maybe it has to do with the game, too."

She carefully recalled Shi Zhile’s unusual behavior.

From their first meeting in the instance until now, she never let Jiang Yuxing be alone with anyone other than Wang Peng. Even when Jiang Yuxing wasn’t by her side, she always made it a priority to know his whereabouts.

Shi Zhile wasn’t the type to be lovesick, nor was she sentimental. On the contrary, she was terrifyingly clear-headed.

Her actions didn’t seem like she was dating someone; it was more like she was a guard watching a prisoner.

’If Jiang Yuxing really was a problem, Lele would never monitor him so openly.’

’But if there wasn’t a problem, her personality is such that she would never focus most of her energy on a man.’

She once said, "It doesn’t matter if he’s my boyfriend; what matters is that he’s useful." This made Shi Zhiyi suspect that the girl was using ’liking him’ as a cover to make it easier to monitor him.

The more she thought, the more her head ached. Shi Zhiyi slowly opened her eyes, took out a pair of binoculars, and carefully observed the situation on Stone Island.

The white mist, instead of dissipating, had grown thicker. Although it hadn’t spread beyond the island, it completely obscured its silhouette.

As the moon climbed high in the western sky, the sticky, damp sound of slithering echoed. Shi Zhiyi took out her axe and walked out of the control room, with Wen Bai following behind her.

On deck, Wang Peng had also woken up. He was holding a sharp knife, cautiously scanning his surroundings.

"It’s the sound of an octopus. Besides that, there’s an earthy, fishy smell in the air. Other monsters might be approaching."

He quickly sent a message to Jiang Yuxing. At that same moment, the sound of something slicing through the air came clearly, and a huge tentacle shot out of the darkness, smashing straight toward Shi Zhiyi.

Shi Zhiyi dodged quickly, swinging her axe at the tentacle. A faint, silvery-white light flashed from the axe’s blade, and the writhing tentacle was instantly severed.

Taking advantage of the moment, she quickly moved to the edge of the ship, her eyes constantly scanning the sea’s surface. Finally, she spotted the octopus’s head, half-submerged, right next to the ship.

"It’s by the side of the ship! Wen Bai, I’ll keep its tentacles busy, you shoot it!"

Wen Bai responded, quickly swapping positions with Shi Zhiyi. He pulled out a crossbow and fired three arrows in quick succession, all of them embedding themselves in the giant octopus’s head.

Compared to its enormous head, the three minor arrow wounds were negligible.

This move not only failed to seriously injure the octopus, but instead, it only exacerbated its fury.
