Chapter 110: Chapter 110: Encountering the Japanese Devils

She lifted her fishing rod, and an arm-length sea fish leaped out of the water.

With quick eyes and nimble hands, Shi Zhile immediately hauled it onto her small boat.

"Food’s taken care of. Next, I need a weapon."

She cast her hook back into the water. While she waited for another fish to bite, the distant raft drew near.

The distance between them was about 100 meters. On the raft was a short man, paddling incessantly with his hands and jabbering away in some foreign tongue.

He mixed in one Chinese phrase for every ten sentences, and his accent was incredibly thick.

Listening to his accent, Shi Zhile couldn’t help but rub her nose, a look of wicked amusement in her eyes.

’To run into a foreign player right after entering the instance... should I call myself lucky, or unlucky!’

She had just been worrying about no one delivering supplies to her, and who would’ve thought? A fat sheep had arrived just moments later.

Shi Zhile carefully sized up his raft, her gaze instantly locking onto a palm-sized stove on its side.

The stove wasn’t the most important thing; the fire source inside it was.

’With a fire source, dinner tonight is settled.’

Shi Zhile’s eyes scanned her backpack, and she decisively pulled out her bow and arrow, aiming it at the nearby raft.

Just as she took aim, the man looked up.

"Wh-what are you trying to do? Huaxia prides itself on being a peaceful nation! I’m here to discuss a partnership, but you’re pointing a bow and arrow at me. You have no honor at all!"

Shi Zhile’s hand loosened on the bowstring, and an arrow shot swiftly toward his leg.

The man dodged with surprising speed, and the arrow only grazed his calf.

"You Huaxia people are very, very bad! Since you don’t want to cooperate, I’ll just leave. But remember this: for a gentleman, ten years is not too late for revenge."

Shi Zhile laughed at that.

’Revenge?’

’Doesn’t he know the old Huaxia saying, "If you don’t cut the weeds by the root, they’ll grow back when the spring wind blows"?’

Now that she’d run into him, how could she possibly let the foreign devil go?

She nocked another arrow to her bowstring. "Stop. Did I say you could leave? When did I say I wouldn’t cooperate? You snuck up on me without a word. That was just a small warning. If you want to cooperate, fine. Hand over your stove."

The short man’s eyes widened in fury.

"Why should I give you my stove? The prerequisite for cooperation is mutual respect! You’re pointing a bow and arrow at me—this is clearly a threat! I will never compromise!"

"Really? No compromise?"

"No compromise! Unless you give me your boat, and then... heheh..."

Shi Zhile released her hand, and the arrow shot toward his thigh.

Having seen his first dodge, Shi Zhile anticipated his next move and deliberately aimed the arrow slightly off-target. As he dodged, he moved right into her predicted position, and the arrow struck him squarely at the top of his thigh.

The arrowhead pierced his thigh. His triumphant expression vanished instantly, replaced by searing pain. He collapsed onto the raft, screaming endlessly.

Ignoring his jabbering, Shi Zhile fired another arrow, this one pinning his calf directly to the raft.

His screams grew louder. Blood flowed down the raft and into the sea, instantly dyeing a small patch of the water red.

"Chotto matte!"

"Speak human!"

"Wait, I’ll give it to you! I’ll give you the stove!"

Shi Zhile lowered her bow. "Weren’t you never going to compromise? I have to say, I preferred your defiant look. Paddle the raft over here yourself."

He paddled the raft while enduring the pain, the hatred in his eyes impossible to conceal.

The moment he lowered his head, Shi Zhile shot an arrow into his uninjured leg. It pierced his knee, making it impossible for him to stand.

This time, the pain made him spew a string of words in his native tongue.

Shi Zhile leaned against the boat’s cabin, watching him with a blank expression. "If you dawdle any longer, I won’t mind putting an arrow through your heart."

’His raft only has the stove and a fishing rod right now, which means he still has two more chances to retrieve supplies.’

’Killing him before he uses up those last two chances would be letting him off too easily.’

Under the threat of death, his movements finally quickened.

Half an hour slipped by. Just as Shi Zhile caught another small fish, the raft stopped about two meters away from her black-canopy boat.

A dying man is the most vicious. She didn’t let the raft get too close.

"Use your fishing rod to lift the stove and pass it over."

The man did as he was told.

After getting the stove, Shi Zhile raised her bow again. "Now take out all your water. I’ll let you go as soon as you hand it over."

’The system tends to target ranked players. The limit on retrieving supplies might not apply to everyone.’

’This person in front of me isn’t on the resource leaderboard. He’s the perfect test subject.’

Hearing Shi Zhile’s words, and especially seeing the arrow aimed at him, the man’s face filled with terror.

"I... I can’t... take out any more. I only have two chances left to retrieve supplies. I can give you two bottles of water at most. The retrieval chances refresh daily. If you let me go, I can give you my supplies every day."

Shi Zhile said nothing. She released the bowstring, and an arrow pierced his neck.

Immediately after, a wooden oar appeared on the man’s corpse.

To retrieve the oar, and also to make sure he was well and truly dead, she paddled her black-canopy boat closer to the raft with her hands.

After boarding the raft, she stabbed him a few more times with an arrow to be sure.

She pulled all the arrows from the corpse. Instead of putting them back in her backpack, she washed them clean and placed them in her boat.

She tossed the body into the sea and put the oar on her black-canopy boat. The moment she did, the raft instantly broke down into planks of wood.

Shi Zhile was close enough to quickly scoop all the wood into her backpack.

After standing under the sun for just over ten minutes, her exposed skin began to sting painfully.

The scent of blood spread through the water. Afraid of attracting monsters, and also worried that continued exposure to the sun would reduce her Life Value, she immediately returned to the cabin of her black-canopy boat and used the oar to paddle away.

The island was to the west of Shi Zhile’s position. She sat at the stern of the boat, slowly making her way toward it.

Along the way, she encountered another two or three players.

The black-canopy boat stood out too much among all the rafts, and anyone who saw her couldn’t hide the greedy, calculating desire in their eyes.

She was still 900 meters from the island. The closer she got, the more players there were. And among the crowd, Shi Zhile saw a rare, familiar face.

In the distance, Chuyi’s face was speckled with a few drops of blood. The long knife in his hand was so completely covered in it that its original appearance was no longer visible.

He was being besieged by other players, standing on a large raft cobbled together from smaller ones. The visible part of his face, his eyes, held a hint of a smile.

Just as he maliciously kicked a corpse at his feet into the sea, his gaze met Shi Zhile’s.

He narrowed his eyes, then quickly cut down another player who was trying to snatch his supplies.

It was 2:00 PM, the hottest time of the day. Shi Zhile sat quietly in her cabin, watching Chuyi slaughter the crowd with no intention of helping whatsoever.
