Chapter 39 Scarce Resources
Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Scarce Resources
On the deck, Feng Yin followed Boss Hong and the others, listening to the arrangements of a manager from the Zero Point Consortium.
"Boss Hong, this time you and your men will be responsible for patrolling the ship’s park area on the ninth floor..."
The manager, an older Caucasian man, was confirming the security route with Hong Yuan. As he spoke, he glanced back and saw Feng Yin. His eyes lit up instantly. Turning to Hong Yuan, he asked, "Boss Hong, this new subordinate you brought looks very unfamiliar, huh?"
Boss Hong glanced back and laughed. "My new guy, Feng Yin. Handsome, isn’t he?"
The manager nodded. "He is indeed handsome enough. There are plenty of fierce and vicious-looking guys like you on this island, but I haven’t seen a single one like him in all my years here."
Boss Hong gave him a mock-disgusted glare. "Old Karl, don’t tell me you swing that way. I’ve known you for so many years, but it seems I’ve misjudged you."
The manager, Carl, spat and replied with a laughing curse, "I only like beautiful women. What I mean is, your subordinate here has great looks. Don’t waste him by having him patrol the floors with you. Let him go to the deck’s recreation area as a guard.
"You criminals are all too scary-looking. I can’t even find a few who can fight and look good out of hundreds. It’s been driving me crazy."
"Uh, this..." Hong Yuan turned helplessly to look at Xie Yanran beside him.
Seeing his hesitation, Carl frowned. "Is that a problem?"
Beside them, Xie Yanran immediately pressed a hand onto Hong Yuan’s shoulder and said calmly, "No problem. Let him go." She looked at Feng Yin. "Feng Yin, just stay in the recreation area and behave. We’ll regroup and head back when we disembark."
Feng Yin didn’t mind. Work was work, no matter where it was. He nodded. "Alright, I understand."
Just like that, Feng Yin separated from the small team and was led away by another manager that Carl had called over.
Hong Yuan watched Feng Yin leave, then glanced at Xie Yanran again.
Xie Yanran’s eyes flickered slightly, her voice low. "It’s not suitable to cause trouble right now. Don’t worry, I care about him much more than you do."
Hong Yuan was speechless. "Old Xie, why does that sound so weird coming from you?"
...
Feng Yin followed the staff member to the main deck and converged with four other guards who looked relatively decent. However, once Feng Yin walked over, these initially handsome individuals immediately paled in comparison. There was no other reason—Feng Yin’s appearance was simply far too exceptional.
If the other four were normal handsome guys or tough men, then the dressed-up Feng Yin could almost be described as having a flawlessly sculpted face. He even carried some of the charm of "Sade Hall," the so-called man among men.
Even the other manager who brought him over couldn’t help but take a few more glances at him, clicking his tongue in wonder. "Kid, you’re a bit too handsome. What crime did you commit to end up in this place?"
Feng Yin replied softly, "I didn’t commit any crimes. I was just inexplicably thrown up here."
The manager’s mouth twitched. Understanding the situation immediately, he reached out, patted his shoulder, and sighed. "Got it. Unlucky bastard. Work hard. With your looks, you can probably be hired by us long-term in the future."
It seemed that no matter which world one went to, good looks and physical appearance were scarce resources. Feng Yin nodded silently.
"Return to the squad. I’ll explain the precautions to you all."
Under the gazes of his colleagues, Feng Yin stepped up beside them. Three of those colleagues shared the same type of look—one filled with hostility and displeasure. But Feng Yin was more interested in the last person, the most handsome young man with slicked-back hair, whose gaze toward Feng Yin was somewhat peculiar.
Too lazy to guess the reason, Feng Yin walked straight up to the young man and greeted him. "Hello, I’m Feng Yin."
The young man had a cold expression. Staring sharply at Feng Yin, he replied slowly, "Saito Gaku... I’ve seen you before. You’re one of Boss Hong’s men."
Hearing the name Saito Gaku, Feng Yin suddenly realized that this was the genius Blade Master recruited by the Ren Sheng Group. Because he hadn’t been there last night, he avoided being incidentally killed by Feng Yin.
"When did you see me?"
Saito Gaku’s eyes were icy. "Just this morning. When I found out the Ren Sheng Group had been bathed in blood, I immediately went to your place to investigate and saw you practicing with your sword on the roof."
Feng Yin asked calmly, "Do you think we did it?"
Saito Gaku replied flatly, "It doesn’t look like it. Neither Boss Hong nor the Ghost-faced Fox has the ability to single-handedly annihilate the Ren Sheng Group, and you look even less capable."
Feng Yin intentionally provoked him. "Maybe we hired someone to kill Kondo and Yamanami."
But Saito Gaku shook his head. "Enough. No need to test me. I won’t take my anger out on you all." He paused before adding, "I saw an old man and a woman in your Tongzi Building."
Feng Yin’s heart stirred. "What do you mean by that?"
Saito Gaku glanced at him, then turned his head away, saying softly, "In a place like this, where ultimate evil is everywhere, being able to let an old man and a woman live with relative dignity...
"You guys... are not my priority targets to kill."
Feng Yin mused to himself that this man only killed evil people. As expected of a Blade Master surnamed Saito who used the Yatu, he truly possessed the demeanor of "slaying evil immediately." He nodded slowly, his impression of the slicked-back-haired young man improving significantly.
He smiled faintly. "So, without the identity of the Ren Sheng Group, how did you get up here? Did you attach yourself to another faction?"
Saito Gaku remained emotionally calm. "I signed a contract with the Zero Point Consortium. I am now a contestant in the Death Frenzy Sword Combat."
"Got it." Feng Yin immediately understood what he meant. Becoming a contracted contestant of the Death Madness Tower meant participating in one hundred consecutive Death Madness matches without exception. One would either clear the matches to obtain an identity and leave the island, or die in combat. Correspondingly, during this period, one would become a temporary "official employee" of the Zero Point Consortium, receiving free room and board within the Death Madness Tower.
This was the path Ya Lie had taken, and it was also the path Feng Yin had once planned to take if he was forced into a corner.
While the two chatted casually in low voices, they also listened to the arrangements of the managing staff up front. There wasn’t actually anything special to note. As security personnel, their task was to stay in the recreation area next to the pool and perform block patrols. They didn’t need to serve the VIPs; they only needed to be on guard against the extremely low probability of an attack—a probability even lower than that of VIPs getting into disputes with each other. They couldn’t even intervene casually in fights between guests.
The manager finally clapped his hands. "Those are all the rules. Do your jobs well, and do not initiate contact or conversation with the guests. If you offend a VIP, you know the consequences.
"Go to your positions and stay there. The guests will be coming out of their rooms shortly."
The five of them nodded silently and then dispersed. Because of his exceptional appearance, Feng Yin was placed directly on the main walkway leading to the recreation area deck. It seemed they were determined to use his image to leave a good impression on the VIPs.
Once all the security personnel were arranged, the ship’s own service staff quickly took their positions, and other unrelated personnel gradually left the ship. The entire deck fell silent in an instant.
About ten minutes later, a large number of men and women dressed in luxurious clothes or formal suits, exuding serious or elegant auras, began appearing all over the ship.
