Invincible through Touching Corpses
Chapter 752 - 722: Sensation (Part 1)
Seeing the looks on their faces, Lin Xinghai could imagine just how demoralized the other students at East Sea Academy must be.
After all, if even the members of his Xinghai Squad felt this way, he could only imagine how the others felt.
Then again, after some thought, Lin Xinghai realized their reaction was perfectly normal.
A Divine Demon Realm expert was part of the absolute top echelon, even on a national scale.
For an expert of that caliber to appear among them, it was truly difficult for the other students to even think of competing.
So, meeting their gazes, Lin Xinghai said with absolute certainty, "Don’t worry, it’s not a big deal. You’ll all understand once we get back to the main base. Whether it’s the individual Points leaderboard or the team Points leaderboard, they won’t be able to surpass us."
’The Points Liu Miaomiao and I have earned haven’t been synced yet. Once they are, we’ll have at least 90 million Points.’
’It’s true they gained nearly 10 million Points in a single night, but it’s impossible to maintain that pace.’
’After all, people get tired and injured. Fourth Level missions are no joke. Even a Divine Demon Realm expert would face danger undertaking them.’
’So, getting 30 million Points in a single day is probably their absolute limit.’
’As the high-intensity battles continue, fatigue will set in and injuries will mount. Later on, they might only be able to earn around 20 million Points a day.’
’Even if we assume they can manage 30 million a day, it would still take them at least three days to catch up to us.’
’The university league is a seven-day event, and we’re already on day two. With a 90-million-Point cushion, we have a lead of three full days. Unless we just stop doing missions altogether, there’s no way they can catch up.’
Hearing Lin Xinghai’s confident words, the rest of the Xinghai Squad couldn’t help but look surprised and hopeful.
But none of them doubted him. The members of the Xinghai Squad knew Lin Xinghai well; he never took on something he wasn’t sure about, and he never made promises he couldn’t keep.
"However, getting East Sea Academy’s total Points above the other two universities... that won’t be so easy," Lin Xinghai mused, frowning.
’East Sea Academy’s overall strength is lower than the other two universities. That’s an indisputable fact.’
’And in a competition of total Points between academies, the gap can’t be closed by just one or two people.’
’Even if I used my Gauss Rifle and went all out killing Mutated Zombies, the total Points I could earn would only be comparable to what several hundred, or perhaps even a thousand, students could achieve.’
’But an academy has eight to nine thousand students. Even if I really did that, it’s hard to say whether I could make up the difference in Points.’
’More importantly, if I pull up the Points all by myself, it only proves that I’m strong as an individual.’
’If the other students don’t demonstrate sufficient value, it’s hard to say if the Ministry of Education would even recognize our victory.’
’Even if they did, the funding we’d receive probably wouldn’t be as much as we were promised.’
The others watched Lin Xinghai, who was deep in thought. They didn’t dare to even breathe too loudly, afraid of disturbing his train of thought.
Frankly, they would have been more than satisfied if Lin Xinghai could just lead them to first place on the individual and team Points leaderboards.
That way, even if the academy failed to achieve an outstanding result and had its funding cut, it wouldn’t have much of an impact on their squad.
After all, they were the academy’s heroes. For the next four years, they would undoubtedly be the face of the school. Even if the administration had to tighten its belt, it would never cut back on their Cultivation Source.
"Ye Xin, what’s the general attitude of the other students right now? And by that, I mean, would they listen to my orders?" Lin Xinghai suddenly asked, looking up at Little Fatty.
Faced with such an important question, Little Fatty was extremely cautious. He took a moment to recall the other students’ attitudes before answering. "If you really have a good plan, Boss, I believe at least seventy percent of the students would be willing to follow it."
"And what about our casualties from the Abyssal Plane attack? How did East Sea Academy fare?" Lin Xinghai asked.
Little Fatty pursed his lips. "The death toll is 1,538, with 4,652 injured."
Although Lin Xinghai had been prepared for bad news, his heart still clenched at the numbers.
’He knew the entire student body of East Sea Academy was only about 8,500 students. The number of deaths was already close to twenty percent. The number of injured was even more horrifying—over half the student body.’
"Then how many students are still combat-ready?" Lin Xinghai asked immediately.
"The academy began treating the wounded at full capacity last night. The vast majority have already recovered and are combat-ready. Only a little over 300 of the most severely injured are still in medical pods."
"So, that means we have about 6,700 students who can still be deployed. And if seventy percent of them are willing to follow my orders, as you said, that’s around 4,690 people," Lin Xinghai murmured to himself, falling into thought once more.
’Nearly 5,000 people... If I could mobilize all of them, that would be an immense force. We could accomplish a lot.’
’But for that very reason, I need to be even more cautious. The academy can’t afford any more major losses.’
This time, Lin Xinghai was lost in thought for a full five minutes before he finally looked up.
"Alright, I have a few ideas, but I’ll need to see the situation at the main base for myself before I decide how to proceed."
"What mission did you all take on? Let’s finish it up quickly so we can head back," Lin Xinghai said.
"Right. It’s another cleanup mission. We’re actually more than halfway done—just two streets left," Little Fatty replied instantly.
With Lin Xinghai joining them, a cleanup mission like this was trivial.
Once Lin Xinghai was back on the firing platform, a Heavy Machine Gun in each hand, it was a complete sweep.
It took them just over five minutes to finish the mop-up operation.
Then the convoy sped back toward the military’s main base.
...
Meanwhile, back at the military’s main base, the atmosphere in the East Sea Academy dormitory area—normally a lively place—was heavy and oppressive.
Students hurried back and forth, but the smiles were gone from their faces, and they rarely spoke to one another.
Suddenly, a student tore into the dormitory area, channeling his Blood Qi Power to yell at the top of his lungs, his voice hoarse with excitement, "Huge news! Everyone, get to the Mission Hall! Check out the latest change in the Points rankings!"
