Invincible through Touching Corpses
Chapter 750: Points Overtaken? (Part 1)
To put it in perspective, before tonight, Lin Xinghai’s personal Points were only around 3.5 million. Even then, he was still over a million Points ahead of the person in second place.
Even based on team Points, the entire Xinghai Squad’s combined total wouldn’t have exceeded 5 million.
But now, Liu Miaomiao alone had tripled that point total.
And that wasn’t even mentioning Lin Xinghai. With him factored in, their team and personal Points were beyond comparison to any other squad.
Lin Xinghai was quite satisfied at the thought. After all, these Points didn’t just represent the final reward; they could later be converted into military merits.
‘That’s basically pure money!’
At this thought, Lin Xinghai couldn’t help but give Liu Miaomiao a thumbs-up. “Impressive! Once this college competition ends, I bet you won’t have to worry about money anymore.”
Liu Miaomiao broke into a brilliant smile. Previously, Lin Xinghai had always been the one providing her with Cultivation Resources. While she never said anything, she didn’t want to be too indebted to him.
But during this college competition, she estimated she could earn tens of millions of military merits just by healing Divine Demon Realm experts. Converted to Huaxia Coins, that would be worth several hundred million.
Liu Miaomiao then grew curious and asked Lin Xinghai what exactly he had done the previous night. She was sure that since he had voluntarily gone to the front lines, he couldn’t have just been acting as a common footsoldier.
Lin Xinghai had nothing to hide, so he told her everything that had happened from the wee hours of the morning until the present.
Even though Liu Miaomiao had witnessed Lin Xinghai’s miracle-working abilities many times before, her sexy red lips still parted wider and wider as he spoke, her face a mask of utter disbelief.
She already held his abilities in high regard, but she never imagined that Lin Xinghai could still play such a pivotal role in a massive battle involving tens of millions of combatants and hundreds of Divine Demon Realm experts.
By the time Lin Xinghai finished his brief account of his great exploits, their time was nearly up.
The two had to part ways once more. Liu Miaomiao needed to stay behind and continue healing people.
The main battle might have ended, but that was precisely why she would get busier. The Divine Demon Realm experts who had insisted on fighting instead of seeking treatment would certainly come to her now. She was going to be busy for some time.
After that, however, she wouldn’t need to remain stationed here.
She could just join the rest of the Xinghai Squad on their missions and conveniently help treat the injured Divine Demon Realm experts stationed at the main military base whenever they returned.
…
After leaving the forward base, Lin Xinghai presented his Major General rank insignia, requisitioned an off-road motorcycle, and began heading back to the Military Department’s main base alone.
On his way back, aside from the constant traffic of military troops, he also occasionally encountered college teams out on missions.
Of course, the teams just heading out now were mostly Third Level Teams. The Second and First Level teams couldn’t enter the green Poisonous Fog District, so they had no choice but to remain at the main base to rest and regroup.
After all, the Military Department had pushed the front line forward by nearly 10 kilometers during the major battle. In the areas now clear of the green poisonous fog, there were only one or two scattered Abyssal Creatures at most. A situation like that didn’t even warrant issuing a mission, so those teams were naturally left with nothing to do.
However, Lin Xinghai knew this situation wouldn’t last. He could tell the military was already working on ways to eliminate the green poisonous fog. The former outer zones would also need to be completely swept, and all of this would require massive amounts of manpower and resources.
As Lin Xinghai was mulling these things over, a look of surprise suddenly crossed his face. He wrenched the handlebars, turning the bike in another direction.
He had just detected the presence of the Xinghai Squad within his Perception range.
He immediately activated his Superpower, enveloping the motorcycle. The bike he was on instantly accelerated to over 1,000 kilometers per hour. Just one minute later, he was closing in on the Xinghai Squad.
At that moment, the Xinghai Squad was carrying out a mission to clear out Abyssal Creatures. Without him there to lead them, the squad’s clearing efficiency was countless times slower.
Dealing with the Abyssal Corpse Ghosts was manageable, but the Petrifying Spiders hiding in the distance and constantly spewing silk were a real nuisance.
The Xinghai Squad had to send a detachment of members with ranged Superpowers to attack them, but their efficiency was far too slow compared to Lin Xinghai, who could solve the problem with a single shot.
Seeing this, Lin Xinghai said nothing. He simply took the Tearing Rifle slung on his bike and pulled the trigger.
RAT-A-TAT-TAT!
A sudden burst of rapid gunfire erupted. In that instant, the Petrifying Spiders in the area—whether on the street or hiding inside buildings—were cut down in droves, like reaping wheat.
Naturally, the Xinghai Squad noticed. As they turned toward the sound of gunfire, looks of delighted surprise appeared on everyone’s faces.
“Boss, you’re finally back!” Little Fatty was the first to rush over, shouting excitedly.
“Woah, woah, woah! Settle down.” Seeing Little Fatty spread his arms for what looked like a hug, Lin Xinghai quickly stopped him.
Then, he asked, confused, “Why are you all out on a mission? Didn’t I tell you to get a good night’s rest?”
The Abyssal Plane had launched a full-scale offensive. It was obviously a bad time to be out on missions.
Especially without him, never mind a Fourth Level Mutated Zombie; even a single Third Level one would be more than the Xinghai Squad could handle.
Hearing Lin Xinghai’s question, a wry smile appeared on Little Fatty’s face. “I wanted to get a good night’s sleep, believe me, but circumstances wouldn’t allow it. If we don’t push ourselves now, our team’s total Points will be left miles behind.”
“I was worried that by the time you got back, Boss, it’d be too hard to catch up. So, after talking it over with the others, we decided to come out and take on some missions we could handle.”
There was a team leaderboard as well, but it drew far less attention than the individual one. Taking first place as a team wasn’t considered a huge deal, as it mostly came down to organizational skill.
For instance, if someone put together a team composed entirely of Body Shaping Realm students, that team’s overall strength would be completely unmatched.
In that case, the team’s total Points might be five or six times higher than an average squad’s, but the individual Points of the Body Shaping Realm members on that team wouldn’t necessarily be all that impressive.
Because of this, powerful Body Shaping Realm students preferred to form their own squads. That way, they had a better chance of chasing a higher personal score.
That’s why everyone focused more on the individual Points leaderboard.
Still, while a team’s total Points weren’t as critical, they were a better reflection of a college’s overall strength, so they were still considered an important metric.
Previously, under Lin Xinghai’s leadership, not only had he left everyone in the dust on the individual Points leaderboard, but the Xinghai Squad’s total Points had also pulled far ahead of the other teams.
Given a lead like that, it would have been incredible if any team had managed to catch up in just a few hours.
But according to Little Fatty, another team had not only caught up, but had already surpassed them by a huge margin.
